Saunders is a big man for someone who is only 6 foot. He is very hard to move. If he played in the SEC or big ten, he'd be a late first round pick early second. I have him in my mock as a late 2nd round pick

He’s a guy I have an eye on too and after his Sr Bowl my guess is he’s on Ballard’s radar

The question was his value as a kick returner.

I think you are exaggerating his drops. He had 3 or less last season.

53 catches for 485 yds and 2 ts.

9 catches for 76 yds in the playoffs.

He was sure handed on the punt returns.

He will make this years roster .

There are a lot of folks who don’t seem to get how valuable a PR is and that it’s a skill. We aren’t talking about returning KO’s. You can’t just stick someone back there on punt returns.

Rogers has value as a PR and is really unchallenged at the moment. That gives him an inside track for a roster spot. We might recall he was the guy catching balls for Luck during his rehab that might say something about his bond with the QB just something to think about.

I think there too much being made about drops. We had a bad stretch with young guys last year. It’s part of growing and let’s not forget there were a lot of other things happening. Luck was shaking off rust regaining confidence, rookie coaches new system and our best guy was out.

Our current WR room reminds me of our CB room going into the draft last year. There was a lot of talk how we need to draft CB’s. My thought was we just added young talent and that  we like our guys. We didn’t draft a CB and by years end everyone liked our guys Moore Q and Desir.

I am not saying no way do we draft a WR.  I am saying we added a lot of young talent and I think we like our guys. Fountain, Johnson, Pascal, Ishmael and Cain will be in just their second year with the team and we added Fuchness. There is a reason we brought those guys to town. It takes longer then a year to develop WR’s.

Why do you think that trade is realistic? The over valued Brissett will not bring back what people think. Way to high of expectations with him. To be honest that trade would never work.

    I would love Oliver though.

I’d like Oliver too I wouldn’t expect many to be oh no not him. I believe you are correct I there is no way that trade happens.  Brissett would equal roughly 300 points on the value chart maybe if we throw in pick 89 but likely it takes more than that

X - easily the biggest need. If we define X as a decent sized speedy good hands guy that can beat the press and go vertical, we simply don't have that now. Cain could be that guy, but I hate to bank on both his recovery, and his speed coming back day one. DF is a possession guy, not a deep threat, and better in the middle than on the perimeter

There is another player returning from injury that too could fit that description. Marcus Johnson is 6'1 and 200+ lbs and runs a 4.39 40. The kid has been plagued by injuries recently but was starting to make a name for himself in Philly before the Hawks asked for his inclusion in the Bennett trade. Then of course Frank wanted him back here. The battle at WR this summer should be a good one.

88 was first John Mackey's number, but I get your point.

Yes and maybe Baltimore should have retired it for Mackey.  I think Indy should've  retired it for Marvin since we are in the business of retiring numbers. Maybe that's just a bad business.

The kid is still rocking 8. Would anyone be offended if he wears 88? Its technically not retired. Heck Collie was gonna be given 88 before he went with 17 instead.

I can only speak for myself. I think 88 should off limits until it's put in the rafters but I wouldn't lose my mind if someone got it. If I was a young WR I'd want my own number but again that's me.

Boston played well and Hayward played great...…..Took him over a year but he's back....it would seem. So similar to Paul George's recovery. Back and better than ever maybe...

Boston seemed to hit every shot.....(I know they didn't) and I hope they cant do that for two weeks

I agree....we cant play Holiday with Evans. They both need the ball in their hands.

I think you might see Holiday start the next two games and Evans come off the bench.

I guess our strength (our balanced scoring and depth) is also our weak ness.

We cant afford to miss anybody. Collison gets that starting group their shots and if he could not play Friday in that big a game, I think we've seen the last of him till Game 1 in Boston.

There's still hope if we can get the whole group back.

But we cant beat them without Collison playing

I hope Holiday gets the start and Evans goes back to the bench and then Holiday gets Tyreek's minutes in the playoffs I'd be fine if I never see Evans take the floor in a Pacers uniform again. That signing has been a total disappointment.

We need to look at our PG position this off season. DC is aging and hurts us on the on defensive end and can struggle to get his shot bc of his size on the offensive end. CoJo is good on the defensive end but it rarely makes up for his offensive woes and it's just not his streaky shooting

    115-93..with 2:00 left.......Kinda embarassing, actually

I was disappointed in the game tonight. It's lame handing Boston home court advantage after all we have overcome this season. We need DC back for the series. Our PG problem really showed tonight

It'll be interesting to see the rotation Nate goes with in the playoffs.  We know the bench will be shortened but how short does he go?  I'd like to see Holiday in there. No one  speeds us up like he can.

This is is going to be a tough series. Boston maybe rounding into to shape. Hayward getting his game back is big for them. I'm happy for him  but let's hope he misses some shots next go around.

Agree. I think adding Houston opens up the front 4 for a lot of movement, and a lot of different sets. While I think we'd be fine without a stud iDL, I think we'd be much better with one. In short, I don't really think we have gaping holes anywhere on the team, which is a good thing. The two places however I think can impact the point differential most, is iDL and WR......, which is why I'm big on Tillery, and a WR with either the 2nd or 3rd pick.

I think it's a mistake not to add a guy who can get after the QB from the interior of the DL like I believe Tillery can. He haa rare traits for an interior lineman. I don't think Ballard would let a guy like that get by us. If Tillery is there and CB sees the same things we do gotta believe that's the pick.

I agree the first half of the roster looks pretty good. We just need to keep adding depth. I'm not sure there are too many WR's in this draft who make an impact as rookies. I'm fine adding one.

The pieces I'd like to see added are a S to pair with Hooker. Regardless of what's being said I think we should find Mack some help. I'd love to add Montgomery. We are thin at LB behind Leonard. I'd really like a real threat in the return game

  10. 2 hours ago, Irish YJ said:

Tillery has a lot of position flexibility. He's also smart (class prez) and tough (playing injured). I agree he's much better in certain spots, but the kid can just flat out play solid where ever he lines up. I'd see him as a starter getting at least 50% of the snaps by mid year. If we picked him up, I'd really love our passing downs line up...

Tillery is the direction I'd like to see us go at 26. He would be a beast in our D.  The kid can get after the QB at DT or NT and is effective vs the run. When you have trouble sustaining consistent pressure on the QB you don't pass on the opportunity to add a player with his pass rushing ceiling.

I'm not sure how anyone thinks the 3 tech is set. We've not seen Lewis play there and Autry will be 29 to start the season.  The fact that neither guy could stay on the field should be considered. We need a pass rush for this D to go to the next level

Watched Tillery look like Quinnen and Oliver for stretches this season, and am a believer that he can be an absolute game wrecker on our d-line. Hope they take him at 26, not sure he's gonna be there at 34.

I'll admit I'm an Irish homer but I don't want to draft our players every year. This year is different there are a handful of guys I'd love to grab and that starts with Tillery with either of the early picks. He is the number 1 guy I want in the horseshoe.

Next is Julian Love he doesn't meet Ballards size profile and I'm not sure we need a CB early but I wouldn't complain if he was still there in the second. He was the unsung hero of the D. Boykins in the 4th would be great although after his combine he's probably late day 2

We have a couple guys I'd look at day 3. Our TE Mack is one This deep class and his injury riddled career at ND will push him down but could be a steal. Finally Dexter Williams is a RB I think would pair well with Mack.

Yeah with turbin last season he was getting dumped anyway we had 2 rookies so once they started to show some promise there was no need to keep him anyway but this season I don't see 4 runningbacks on the active roster

We carried Williams as a 4th RB after Turbin was cut He was on the 53 man for the playoffs I think you are going to find we carry 4 more then 3

My thinking with the Lawrence pick is that he is a disruptive player in both the run and pasing games, and must be double teamed, IMO, unlike Grover and Hunt who don't always have to be.  What bumps Lawrence down a notch is the fatigue factor and weight, so he's not going to be in all downs every series.  But Elberfus seems to rotate players anyway to keep them fresh, so I don't think DLs weaknesses really hurts us much.

Besides, Both Hooker and Kelly have been nothing more than solid players, IMO, and nobody really complains about taking them at 15 and 18.

Kelly is one of the top C's in the league when healthy if he can stay healthy is a bigger question I am just happy Grigson picked a guy whose still on the roster and has a shot at a second contract. That's a feat in itself.

Hooker was off to a very good start then he too was injured. He's a valuable piece to the D no question I think he may live up to his draft status beginning this year It's the first off season he hasn't been rehabbing and only the start of year 3 for him.

I have a question. Why does a player go to a waiver wire rather then just being cut and signed as a free agent elsewhere? Does a team have a choice whether to put a player on the waiver wire?

It has to do with time in the league if you have less then 4yrs you hit the wire If you have 4 years or more you are a free agent I believe that to be true

Ballards best waiver claims seem to happen after the preseason is over.  That's when he picked up all 3 of them I do believe.

He grabbed Moore when NE cut down to 53 I remember bc he was a guy I and others on the board watched hoping he'd get cut. Thrre was a big buzz about him during the Pats camp that summer

Glowinski was a waiver wire pickup too.  And we know how that turned out.  Our GM knows what he's doing.

You can add Doyle Pascal Farley and Muhammad to the waiver claim list too. There is no question if you can find helpful pieces on the wire

It definitely didn't go over my head my point is this we have 3 active runningbacks we're not carrying 4 on the active roster it makes no sense unless it's someone who will be the practice squad which ajayi will not be

We have carried 4 RB's on the 53 man frequently in fact more often than we have only carried 3.  Last season we carried McNicholos Turbin and Williams at some point as our 4th RB. Then 2 seasons ago we carried Gore Mack Ferguson and M Jones.

I think you overlooked the youngest corner in the room....    Quincy Wilson.

    Just sayin....

I have Q I just didn't use punctuation so it reads Moore Q and Killings 23. This is how it should read Moore, Q, and Killings  are all 23.

This Killings kid is interesting. He's 5'11and 190lbs ran a 4.48 40 and was considered a priority UDFA out of UCF . NE paid extra to secure his signature then in Philly he's given a raise to avoid losing him to an active roster. He's in his second stint with us.  I didn't remember much about him  had to do a little research. He's a guy I'll be watching this summer

    Deano's Mock Draft 1.5

Round 5/ Round 6/Round 7 – BPA (Need some CBs)

    Thoughts?

I am not a wilting flower, so hit me with what you think........

    Thanks for reading

I don't see much different from the other mocks posted. It seems most are on the same page when it comes to the draft. I don't understand the feeling that corner is a position of need. We resigned Desir so will have our trio from last season intact. It's a young room Desir at 28 is the oldest guy followed by Milton and Collins 26, Hairston 24 and Moore Q and Killings are 23 years old.

I understand the need for competition and always improving depth. That looks like a pretty solid room Hairston going into year 3 and we see something in Killings. The Eagles and Pats both did from what I've read.  If Collins regains his form things could get interesting. Milton may have a tough time making the roster despite his special teams play.
