Werner is a year 2 outside LB that converted to OLB from DE that he played in college. We knew he would take a year or 2 to become the player we want him to be so why would we trade him after one season played?? He even out performed all other rookie OLBs.
So you know Richardson is a bust after the half a year he had with us?? You seem to be forgetting the double digit TD, just under 1000 yard rookie season he had one year before. You cannot just dismiss that. Also.... Do you feel we need to upgrade the Oline or do you feel it was adequate last season? The correct answer is that it was in the bottom 5 of the entire league and was a huge problem.
TRich and Werner are both good young prospects and the last thing we need is to get rid of them. You sir, are the one being irrational.
It doesn't matter what O-line you have in front of Richardson, he won't gain big yardage. Brown gained almost five yards a carry behind that line. Ballard and Bradshaw did well too before injuries. The only back who couldn't get to three yards a carry was Richardson. I have seen enough. Cleveland saw enough too, that is why he was traded away and they are howling in laughter over fleecing Grigson and the Colts. If Werner was the project you describe why in hades was he picked in the first round? You don't draft projects anywhere in the first round. If he was a project, Grigson should be fired. I can assure you that Grigson expected him to be able to play very quickly. He didn't, he can't and he never will be a player. Sometimes you just have to throw up your hands and admit big mistakes and move on (trade their butts if there are any takes but I am sure there are no takers). The Richardson deal was a bold move and I like the guts the GM showed in making it. It is not going to work out and I fear they will force feed him to his when he should be the third back on this team next year.

False.
The way you stop a QB like Brady or Manning is with a pass rush. You could have an all pro bowl secondary and with no pass rush those guys will tear you up. Both Manning and Brady become mortals when they're getting hit. All QBs do, but especially immobile ones.
Manning does not get hit enough to have any way to know that. He is also get rid of the ball faster than anyone other than Brady. Go ahead, try to play those guys without good pass defenders. They will eat them alive no matter how hard you rush them.
-
So lets say we don't re-sign him before March 11th.. Do you guys think we still have a pretty good shot of landing him, even though other teams will be competing for him and offering more money?
I think they already in trouble signing Davis. I think he is going to be offered some heavy $ from a contender.
-
i really liked how you went about making a strong point well done i agree with everything except thier QB i believe he's got a lot of growing and learning to do but if he could improve id like thier chances against the rest of the nfc north but you make good points
He has all of the physical tools. He now has a coach who is brilliant at bringing out the best in QBs.
-
I'd like him back but:
Front 7 > back 4.
You have to face Peyton Manning in Denver this year and you host Tom Brady. Back 4> Front 7 in importance against those kind of QBs.
-
What do you think they are worth?
He is not speaking rationally. He would not cut ties with either of them even when they sink to the point they are worth nothing. But, don't worry, no * general manager if going to offer you anything close to a third round pick if you put them both together.
-
YES!!!!! stop being silly
We would hang up on a GM if he offered us a 3rd round pick for either of them
I would take that for either of them in a heart beat and I might consider it for both of them. That is how big a bust I think the two of them are. Two years from now, you would take a seventh rounder for either one of them.
-
well aware i only stated oakland or detroit because they are the 2 teams i keep hearing have alot of interest in him but yes im aware there are other winning teams just none better than the colts simple as that
You are speaking as a fan, not someone who is being analytic. I think Detroit will be the most improved team in the NFC and I think they will challenge for the North Division crown. They have a good coach, franchise QB on hand and a great defense that will get better if they add Davis. I am sure it is all about money at this point.
-
we can find a decent replacement hopefully for cheaper if he doesnt want to be on a winning team fine have fun in oakland or detroit or wherever
Or San Francisco or Denver? There are more than one winning team..

No he's right Bert. We made the mistake of drafting an awesome QB so we're clearly doomed
The Colts didn't make a mistake. I believed in drafting him too although I didn't carry suck for Luck signs. It is apparent that the game has changed with the new CBA and the new rookie scale. I think teams have proven that there is another way to build a team and win championships. We watch to see what Houston does. I am betting against them drafting a QB with the first pick. That is all I am saying. Now that we have Luck, I want us to surround him with the players needed to win as soon as possible.
-
Nope. Still suck.
I know it is silly to make predictions before the draft and free agency but here goes (if Houston takes a QB with the first pick, this is all off)
1. Colts 10-6
2. Houston 10-6
3. Titans 6-10
4. Jags 5-11
I think the Colts will likely go 4-2 to this group but 3-3 would not be a surprise. It will be a much tougher fight this year.
-
Yeah that great defense lead them to 14 straight losses last year. They're a less interesting version of the Cowboys, perpetually snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and never living up to expectations.
But I get it. They aren't going to address the QB position which clearly makes them a Super Bowl favorite.
They are going to address the QB position but not with the number one pick. The Colts had the same record as the Texans three years ago and look how they have come back. Player for player, there is more talent on that Houston roster than on the Colts present one. Nobody called them a Super Bowl favorite and no one is calling the Colts that either. I think they come back tough next year and win ten or more games and, if they add Clowney, they will have one of the most disruptive defenses in the NFL.
-
1) Agreed. I also think he'd mesh well with the other guys we already have.
2). Half agree. I'll the first to admit Grigson and company know infinitely more about this stuff than I do. That said, if we back a Brinks truck up to Decker's house I'm going to be concerned
3) I. gave up predicting Colts draft direction very early into the Bill Polian era. I think Luck might be the only pick I've ever come close on in the 20 years or so I've been a fan. While no one will confuse me with Mike Mayoch, the wide receivers look really good this year.
4). I don't look at it as a total either/or situation. However we are dealing with the management of a finite resource and every dollar we spend on Decker (or whoever) is a dollar we can't spend elsewhere. Keep in mind were also trying to keep Davis. Davis and Decker together could eat up over half our cap space for this year. Plus we need to keep some back for rookies and emergency. (This is the one time the Richardson trade has helped up since we don't have to save money for a first rounder...).
If we're looking at FA WRs, I'm more interested in Jones from GB. He's less of a long term solution but would be much cheaper and give us time to figure out what we have with Rogers and Brazil.
What you have in Rogers and Brazil are glorified practice squad players. They may or they may not amount to anything significant. While you wait to see what you have in those two, Houston will be pressing the Colts hard in the AFC South. They are building a great defense and they can get by with a lesser QB for a time.
-
Do you think Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, or a healthy Reggie Wayne would have given up or thrown in the towel in a SB appearance? Absolutely not!
Against Seattle, they would have been made to look that way.
-
Also, the Rams did exactly what your taping about with the Redskins. They have an absurd amount of draft picks yet still suck because their QB is incredibly average (or hurt).
It doesn't fit your profile. They had a franchise QB on hand that they had to pay a ton of money to because it was on the old rookie scale. They simply decided to stick with what they had. They are building a power house there. They are the perfect example of why you don't get a franchise QB (Bradford) before you are ready to support him with a good O-Line and a defense. He got hurt because he got hit hard often. It could have happened to the Colts and Andrew Luck.
-
I think the Decker interest is overblown.
That is the kind of big splash Irsay loves to make and yes, he does decide some of these things.
-
There is one guy that has been talked about that I would complain about...and that guy is Eric Decker. I just REALLY don't want him on the team. I know he will be overpaid and he won't improve us that much, if at all. I truly believe that Rogers will be a monster next year if he is given an opportunity. Draft a WR if we truly want one though, I just say draft Bruce Ellington in the 5th round, he's a playmaker plain and simple. With that #2 we should draft a CB.
I don't care if we "overpay" for Byrd though, actually if I was Grigs, I would gladly "overpay" for Byrd.
Nonsense. Rogers has been dropped from other teams and spent a lot of time on the practice squad. Decker is a proven commodity who can stay healthy and productive. Go ahead and draft someone. They will probably be this years practice squad phenoms...
-
Sad But Not True.... This draft is the deepest draft in 10 years with WR !!! why pay that kinda of money on a a # 2 WR... If he is all that why is Denver Not signing him in a We WIN NOW Mentality?? spending that kinda of money NO>>> Not even on Byrd nor Mack...who I think ( Center) is our #1 position to get settle in for long term
Because he has a record of being healthy and productive. If you draft a WR, you may have a practice squad player. Denver may yet match any offer he gets and they have a very good receiver to bring in (Caldwell) if he leaves.
-
You do realize that coaches and front office personnel don't really care what fans think when it comes to making player personnel decisions...right?
To some extent but when you get booed as badly as Schaub did and they cheer madly when he gets injured it is a consideration. How well to the players play when being booed instead of cheered? I don't think bringing Schaub back was viable even if he wasn't such a big cap hit.
-
Why would they sign Cassel when they still have Schaub, he had a bad stretch last season, prior to that he was a pretty good QB, not great....Not a QB your gonna win a SB with but he was decent and had the Texans in contention, They just need to get healthy, keep Schaub another year, Draft Clowney or trade down for more picks and draft Schaubs future replacement in the 2nd or 3rd round, There is no quick fix in the draft or FA that will put them over the edge
Cap space. Shaub is a $14 million hit and the fans are done with him. They are going to bring in someone like Cassel to mind the store for a year or two while they draft a second or third round QB. Can you say "Seahawks".
-
Nahh they're a terrible football team.
No, they aren't and they are about to get a lot better. http://nfl.si.com/2014/03/06/2014-nfl-draft-rumors-houston-texans-jadeveon-clowney/

I think they are exactly right to draft Clowney and try to make life miserable with him and J.J. Watt every time they see Andrew Luck. This is the fastest and best way for them to catch-up and perhaps eclipse the Colts. There isn't a franchise QB so I also agree with them signing a veteran like Cassel and drafting a QB at round two or three. There are some there with every bit as much promise as the one who are overhyped.
-
I'll be suprised if the Texans win 5 games.
I would take that bet in a minute. I think they are more likely to win 11 or more than five. But, that is just me after doing a lot of reading.
-
we dont need another wr. luck has enough weapons. what will need is more pass rush to help mathis and better run stuffers
You are sadly short of receivers. They are going to add to that. If Reggie does not come back 100%, you have no number one receiver and you are loaded with practice squad suspects.
Colts and Davis Not Close to a Deal

First, greetings to one of my favorite states, New Mexico. I have been trying to find a way to make a living and live there for the past ten years. I think we need to start thinking about Davis as a lost cause and Shield is certainly an option.
