  1. So is Allen. They will get one of the two. I love Peyton, but I kind of want to see this all blow up in Elway's face.

I don't. I want to see Peyton get back to the Super Bowl and they could just do it. They have weakened New England a bit and I don't think the Colts put any fear into them yet. I like Elway too, I think he has done a great job there.

  2. The FS and C positions moving forward? Who do you think he'll sign or will we try to fix these in the draft (a risky move as we have no 1st, but after that 2012 draft class you can't doubt his ability to find starters later)

And do you think we will sign someone at a different position? Any ideas?

This is just a way to try to twiddle my thumbs as we wait.. Want to gauge everyone's expectations!

I believe we have no first and no fourth round pick. I am not expecting anything great in the draft.

  3. Is our defense really that much better today than it was yesterday?

We've added Jones and Jackson....   fine.

And we've lost Bethea with no obvious replacement of equal value out there.

I'd say we're slightly better...   but, as Superman noted,  we still need another pass rusher (Werner?)   We still need a starting FS... and we need better depth everywhere.....

So...  maybe we're slightly better today...   with the promise of getting better over the next two months....

    OK....

If you are waiting on Werner, be prepared to wait a long, long time.

  4. Lets assume we go into the season with our defense as it stands now.

Ricky Jean Francois/Cory Redding, Josh Chapman, and Arthur Jones, OLB being Robert Mathis and Erik Walden/Bjoern Werner, ILB being D'Qwell Jackson and Jerrell Freeman, with our secondary being Greg Toler, LaRon Landry, Delano Howell, and Vontae Davis (feels so good having him back  )

How would you feel about this? Obviously everyone would probably like to see a new safety in place of Howell, which likely will happen in free agency or in the draft.

Slightly better. I do not think Jackson is an enormous improvement but Arthur Jones is. When you add in having no replacement at safety, I think it is about even or perhaps a little better than last year.

  5. Yes...I still fully believe Richardson has the chance to be a premier back in this league and I won't believe otherwise till after this season with a full training camp in our system and an improved line.

That won't help Richardson. He will quickly be the third string RB. He would already be gone if Grigson didn't have to defend the trade. It was awful and Richardson is even more awful.

  6. From the man himself:

@JimIrsay: Glad to welcome back Vontae Davis to the team! #COLTSTRONG

This forum is a hoot. Most of the day yesterday, people were saying how great Davis is and how we needed to re-sign him. Then the rumor started that he was signing elsewhere and he became the biggest overpriced bum in the entire NFL. Now that we have him for $9.75 million per year he is back to being great again. People post with their emotions and not their heads. Hey, I think it was a good signing and, yes, it is too much but welcome to the world of good young CBs in the NFL today.

  7. We could also compare what Grigson found in his first draft compared to what Polian found in his in Indy.

He took Manning and ......... Nothing.

Come on, he took Edgerin James, Marvin Harrison (I think he drafted him), Reggie

Wayne, Dwight Freeney, signed Robert Mathis and Jeff Saturday, Bob Sanders, many, many more.

  8. So do TE's and that does not make TEs #1 WRs.  Speed and size has nothing to do with being a #1 WR.  IMO, it has to do with getting open no matter what and catching a majority of the balls thrown your way.

The Colts have a bunch of little backs. They need a big guy like Decker (if not him) that can get open and go up to get the ball in the end zone.

  9. :blueshoe:   ENJOY TWODAYS "TWOSDAY TWOFER":

:blueshoe:   1.  Should the Colts have signed CB Vontae Davis to a contract extension when they traded a 2nd round pick for him - instead of only getting 2 years of service for that investment ??

:blueshoe:   2.  Channel your inner Ryan Grigson:  Which ONE veteran free agent (from another team) would you want to sign @ 4:01 PM today ??

I don't care, I just don't want him to trade any more of our draft picks.

  10. Receiver is plug and play though. Look how good T.Y. Hilton has been and his rookie deal was only worth $2 million. Or look at Keenan Allen on the Chargers. He's given them great value and he's only a rookie. The point being, that if you draft a good WR early, it pays dividends early most of the time. And if it doesn't it's okay because you know they'll get better. A FA doesn't pan out and you're out of a good amount of money that could've gone to another player. Rodgers was thrown into the Wolves and he did just fine

Plus WR's are notorious for commanding high level contracts when they hit FA. Everyone wants number 1 receiver money.

Drafting a receiver is 50/50 just like every other position. Yes, you would save money but Decker is a proven player and there would be no guess work with him. You would be signing a known star. Also, you would be taking something away from a team you have to go through to get to the Super Bowl.
