  1. I take it your a Broncos fan which is fine. But you have to take off the Manning rose colored glasses every once and awhile. I watched his entire Colts career and the way he looked in the SB is the way he has looked in countless playoff games because he can't run any offense other then the Tom Moore Indy offense which gets shut down every time he plays a stout defense that can cover and get decent pressure.

Luck in just his second season has run two different offenses with success which gives me hope that he will be able to adapt his game to the competition. Your other thoughts on Luck are laughable. Do you have anything to substantiate your claims other then opinion?

I too watched Peyton's entire career. I saw him get the blame for losses that were not his fault. When they played NO in the SB, it wasn't Manning that could field an onside kick that eventually cost them the game IMHO. He also didn't snap that ball over his own head against Seattle. Manning has beaten the best defenses in the NFL over and over again. He has nothing to prove to anyone. I like Luck but I think the Indy fans have him on a pedestal that he does not deserve. He won a playoff game giving up three interceptions. "Luck" is he key to his game. I am sure he will be great but comparing him to the best five QBs in the NFL is simply silly.

  2. PM's reads were not very good in the game as well. It was not just the receivers. There were times he had time and open guys and he did not get them the ball. There is only one other QB that looked worse against Seattle then Peyton all season and that was his brother.

I can assure Luck would not have looked that. He beat Seattle.

They would have beaten Luck even worse than they beat Denver. Do you forget that Luck and the Colts got rolled out of the playoffs by New England and then Denver rolled New England out. The overhyping of Andrew Luck continues. People don't see his seven turnovers in the playoffs. They refuse to admit that he just isn't in the same class as Peyton, Brady and Brees or even Rivers. I like him, I see the potential but I also see that he is slow to make his reads and get rid of the ball. I still see him throw behind receivers and I see long passes float and come up short. There is a reason the Colts did not allow Luck to pass as much as he did his first year. The emphasized the run for a good reason. I see silliness here saying Luck is the best QB in the NFL. He isn't even close and he isn't the best QB from his recruiting class.

  3. Gronk is not the best red zone target in the nfl. Jimmy graham is way better and I'd argue Dwayne Allen is too. Besides the obvious lack of talent compared to jimmy graham he can't be considered better when he hardly plays ever. To be the best red zone target in the nfl you have to be there. Gronk will always be injury prone and as a result subpar to guys like J green Dwayne Allen Vernon Davis jimmy graham and arguably Julius Thomas

Dwayne Allen should not be mentioned in the same sentence with Jimmy Graham. How is Allen any less injury prone that Gronk? Allen missed all of last year. I also do not think he is close to being the player Julius Thomas is. When he comes back, he might not even be the best TE on the Colts team.

  4. Houston should be much improved but not enough to beat the Colts for the division.

    Colts: 12-4, 5-1 in division.

Division champions, 2nd seed in playoffs.

They were 11-5 last year after going 6-0 in the South. That means they were only 5-5 in the games outside of the division. If they lose a game in the division this year, they have two go 6-4 outside the division to have the same record. If they are going to get to 12 wins, they have to go 7-3. I don't see it. I do see Houston going 10-6 or better. They are in the hunt for Matt Cassel now.  http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/houston-texans--matt-cassel-have-mutual-interest-…-could-they-pass-on-qb-at-no--1-143303638.html

  5. IMO I think the Texans take Bortles or Bridgewater with the first pick and Jax taking the other with their 3rd pick followed by Manziel being picked with the 4th pick. they are in need of a QB more then they are in need of a defensive player. Schaub can not stay healthy, Keenum really isn't as good as some like to make him out to be and Yates is an average QB at best who would avg a 8 win season a year. maybe if they traded for Cousins (which the skins want a 2nd rounder for him) maybe then I would take Clowney if I was Houston, but seeing that they do need a young QB to contend in the South, that is in my opinion is what Houston addresses with their first pick, is the QB position. and St.Louis trade their 2nd pick to Atlanta who likes Clowney.

The Texans are looking at lower round QBs to draft and they are talking about trading for Mallet or Cousins. Now, they are looking at Cassel. I think they are going to take Clowney or trade down in the draft. I think they will take Clowney to pair him with Watt as a ploy to slow down Andrew Luck. I think Houston will have a shot at the division next year unless the Colts make some astounding free agency moves.

  6. Talib has baggage. DRC, eh I'm not sold on him. The others I don't know much about. Personally I would rather keep Davis and I said a month ago that resigning him should be priority #1 this off season. Get it done Grigson. He's one of the top free agents in the NFL this year. It's gonna cost but he's worth keeping.

    DRC is pretty damn good...

  7. If they fail to lock up Vontae Davis, I really think they need to try and land either Darqueze Dennard in the 1st round, trade for Jimmy Smith from Baltimore, or sign Talib to a lesser deal than Davis would have gotten. A lockdown corner is so vital to this defense.

1st round? Lock down corners are rare birds. David isn't one and neither is Jimmy Smith or Talib. The loudmouth from Seattle is about as close as it comes this side the neon one....

  8. Texans with keenum a Rex Grossman with less talent now people know what to expect he's has no shot a being a NFL QB pressure him and defend deep passes he has no answer for that .

Jags I just see them making a leap and losing MJD should be a few easy wins .

Titans are rebuilding I don't expect them to turn it around with the personnel they have

could change after the draft and FA if the Texans or Titans land a franchise QB they could be very competitive .

Keenum won't be the QB. He may be the backup. Houston is trying to get Ryan Mallett from New England (he has worked with the coach and knows the playbook) or Kirk Cousins from Washington. They are going to be handful.

  9. Houston will dominate.

I don't know if they will dominate but I do think they could be very, very good. If they draft Clowney, I think they are setting that team up to beat Andrew Luck and that is a great move for them. I don't know if it will happen but it will not be two of Luck's favorite games of the season.

  10. Did anybody see this article that ESPN posted today? It's for Insiders, but here's the link for anyone who has it...http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10554647/2014-nfl-free-agency-michael-bennett-best-available-free-agents

For those of you who don't there is a couple questionable quotes regarding players he has drafted.

    1) He has Bethea listed as an "A Grade" which he classifies as "$6-plus million AAV (annual average value), three-plus years in term and/or guaranteed money". Here is his quote on Antoine..."Bethea is durable and reliable. He has been a rock on the back end for the Colts and demonstrates good range in the deep zones, but he is probably best as a Cover 2 safety. He is more than adequate in the run game but isn't a knockout hitter. Age is his only negative, but it's not that big a negative."

Fair Enough. You can see the homerism here but his points can be argued. Also, paying Bethea 6Mil+ and 3 yrs of guaranteed money is questionable.

Now here is where I shook my head...

    2) He has Donald Brown listed as a "B+" and defines the B range as "$2 million to $6 million AAV, two years or fewer in term and/or guaranteed money" And here is his take on Brown: "Brown has started 19 games over the past four seasons. Coming off the best season of his career, it could be argued that Brown is a No. 1 back. He has solid speed, and his power running has gotten better. Brown also has every-down capabilities." I don't see a scenario where a team is going to pay Brown 5-6Mil per yr to be their #1 RB?

Just curious to see what everyone on here thought about what Polian had to say...

I think he is about right. People around the rest of the NFL think more of Bethea than the Colts fans do. Brown is and has always been limited. he won't command a huge contract.

  11. I think Detroit will make a big turnaround and challenge for their division title and make the playoffs.

In the AFC, I think Houston will have the biggest turnaround if they draft Clowney or trade down to take more players. I expect them to sign a QB like Ryan Mallett who has worked with the new coach and knows his system or Kirk Cousins who is on the trade blocks. I think they too will challenge for the AFC South Championship and make the playoffs as the division champ or a wild card. I look for them to be 10-6 or better next year if they follow the plan I have outlined. If they draft a QB number one then I think they will be a nonfactor at around 8-8 to 9-7. Your thoughts?

  12. Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers, and Roethlisberger have been to thirteen Superbowls. Do you think this is a coincidence? Many of those appearances have been in the past five years. Eli may not be elite, but he's been money in the playoffs and has two rings of his own. The Ravens had a good defense two years ago, but Baltimore won a ring because of Flacco's 11 TDs and zero interceptions in the post-season. This idea that the franchise QB has become obsolete is ridiculous.

I am only talking about the last three years. Times have changed and I did not say the franchise QB has become obsolete. I only suggested that some teams may decide to build everything else first and then get the QB as opposed to how it has been done in the past. The rules have changed and you have to change with them.

  13. I love how it's a forgone conclusion the Houston Texans will just build a great team and then add a franchise QB.

You know, because their track record has just been consistently excellent on both of those fronts.

Franchise QBs don't just grow on trees. To read your posts you'd think a GM could just pick one up at Walmart. They keep them next to the tires.

QBs like Andrew Luck come around like once a decade. You even admitted a player of that caliber can be the difference between winning 2 games and 10+.

I don't care what you get from trading Luck, you won't get enough players that by themselves make that significant a difference to the success or failure of a franchise.

They are an expansion team and yes, they made lots of mistakes. But they have a good defense that is on the way to being great if they add Clowney. Schaub was bad last year but he has been very good up until then. He might be able to come back or they might deal for a veteran and sign a lower round QB like Derek Carr to develop. I would not be one bit surprised to see Houston win ten games or more this year and they are building a nightmare for the Colts and Andrew Luck.  Do you remember how the Cowboys were built during their Super Bowl years? What let them get Emmett Smith, Aikman and a host of others? They traded Herschel Walker for an enormous package of draft picks, hired a great coach in Jimmy Johnson and they won Super Bowls with a host of HOF players. So, Yes, I would rather have had the picks than putting all of the emphasis on Luck. That doesn't mean he isn't great. It just means that he came to a team with lots of holes to fill and he was going to get beaten up rather badly in the process. Happily, he is going to survive it. Many did not using that approach.

What you deserved for your approach would be what happened to Carr, Couch and many other can't miss prospects like Luck. What you deserved was to invest all that in just him and then have him go out behind a leaking O-Line and have him suffer a career ending injury. I cringed every time I saw him getting nailed hard. Yes, they have changed the rules to protect the QB but one big hit and you will be looking for another franchise QB and he will still be playing behind a lousy line and a mediocre defense. I can see that you are a bit brainwashed into thinking that is the only way to win a Super Bowl. Recent teams have shown there is another more sensible way of doing it. The new salary cap and CBA make the new way of thinking possible. Perhaps you do not need a QB like Peyton or Luck if the rest of the team is really good. A good game manager like Wilson might be just the ticket to win a SB.

  15. I thought having a high priced pro bowl QB was bad for a team? Hasn't that been the argument all this time? That we'd somehow be better off passing on a QB like Luck for a bunch of draft picks?

Regardless, even if the above hypothetical statement is correct, he didn't play and they didn't win 10 or more games. They won 2 games and IMO were lucky to get that many.

Oh, boy. No, I didn't say that. There is nothing wrong with having an experience pro bowl QB. That will get you in the playoffs most years and every eight to ten years you might even get to a SB. While you are doing that the 49ers, Seahawks and the Ravens will already have won one or two. The Texans will build a great team and then add a franchise QB and they might win one or two also. It is just my opinion and I don't mind that several of you disagree but I think the Colts will be a consistent playoff team with a mediocre playoff record for years to come if things stay as they are. I hope you are right and I am wrong.

  16. Based on the way he was playing, losing pickasaurus should have been an improvement for the Texans.

Look, I get it, they have a talented roster on paper. But that's not the same thing as being a good football team. Good football teams don't lose 14 straight football games. Look at the 2011 Colts. Would you call that a good football team? I would not. At times they redefined my definition of "bad." But that team had talented players.

If Peyton had been able to play, that teams wins ten or more games and makes the playoffs.

  17. Ummm, are not their QB's franchise level players in the making?

Does Seattle win the whole thing this year if Matt Flynn is their QB?  That answer lies somewhere between no and heck no.

You miss my point and I'll make it one last time and let anyone else answer that wants to do it. The last CBA has changed the game and the rookie scale has changed the game. What Seattle, the 49ers and Baltimore did was have a very good team and they added a QB with it and surrounded him with all of the talent they could and played to win it all while that QB was still on his rookie contract. That is all I am saying. You have a two year window of opportunity with Luck before he scores the big bucks to surround him talent and make the same kind of run. I vote we do it. Others want to be conservative and build through the draft and a few conservative free agents. That slow approach may result in Luck never getting to a SB at all. Watch Houston closely. If they draft a QB with that first round pick then everything is status quo. But, if they take Clowney or trade down and make do with a QB they already have or draft one later in the draft, the game is on. That is the next team that could take that template the three teams I mentioned earlier used and make it work for them. I can't wait to see what happens.

  18. So the franchise QB model is a thing of the past?  I don't think the evidence comes close to supporting that claim.  QB is the most important position in all of sports.  They are the one player whose performance most dictates winning and losing.  I don't believe their value can be overestimated.  In the AFC alone, 10 of the last 11 QB's in the Super Bowl were elite, franchise-level QB's in Brady, Manning and Big Ben.  The lone exception is Flacco who some would argue is elite himself.  That tells me to win, you have to have a great QB.  And when you get one, you hold onto them like grim death and pay whatever is necessary.

I look at teams with talented rosters but lack at the QB position - Cincy, Houston, etc and the one reason they don't win is because they dont have the QB.

How about Seattle and San Francisco? I like their model.
