  1. You know the teams by any chance?

Nah no clue, and it's possible Russell's agent (whoever that is) may have just thrown that out there to make Russell seem more in-demand. That seems pretty typical for most agents.

  2. I am a lifetime Colts fan from back in the Baltimore days in the mid fifties but the only class Jim Irsay represents in my mind is third class. The way he treated Peyton Manning only enforced that image in my mind. It is catching up with him. He no longer has a waiting list for season tickets. I will agree with you that he was smart enough to get out of the football business and let experts run the team....

I actually remember Irsay chocked up as he drove Peyton to the airport. Irsay definitely had the utmost respect for Peyton. They reached a concensus together that this business decision was needed for the benefit of the Colt's organization.

@1:09 When the reporter asks if they're both happy, Irsay just looks down and has nothing to say. Peyton then interjects that they're both fine, but even Peyton looks like he's forcing a smile.

Btw, how many owners do you know personally drives their players around?

  3. Plus, what really benefits Russell's chances is this year's QB draft class was awful. Geno Smith is already disappointing in many respects.

It only takes one team to pull the trigger.

  4. More info on Geno Smith and the firing--it's possible he dropped BECAUSE teams knew he had personality issues.:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--geno-smith-s-firing-of-agents--pre-draft-actions-shed-light-on-why-qb-dropped-183846651.html

    Some bits that stood out:

"I'm not sure he knows how to take instruction because he pretty much wouldn't listen or talk to our coaches … He's tuned out because he thinks he's got it all down."

When Smith was asked on a radio show Tuesday about firing his agents, he claimed the decision wasn't based on when he was drafted. When pressed, however, he didn't give a reason."

Two sources indicated that when Smith went on some visits to teams, rather than interact with coaches and front-office people, he would spend much of his time on his cell phone. Instead of being engaged with team officials, he would be texting friends or reading Twitter or a number of other distracting activities. "All these other players who were in there were talking to the coaches, trying to get to know people and he was over there by himself," one of the sources said. "That's not what you want out of your quarterback."

By Sunday, Smith was being convinced by other friends that it was the fault of his agents that he slipped so much in the draft, according to one of the sources. "Right now, he's blaming everybody but himself and he has some buddies around him who are telling him that same thing."

  5. I realize the media may spin a lot of things, but his whole "I'm going home" thing during the draft after not getting selected on day 1 and then this just wreaks to me of immaturity.

Not to mention he said the Jets would be going to the playoffs. Very immature of him to say that after what the Jets have been going through recently with the loss of Revis and Rex Ryan on the hotseat.

Yea, you know you messed up your pick when the player you drafted says he should have been taken later and when the head coach is rubbing his forehead. I believe Mike Mayock had him as a 3rd rounder, so even thinking he was a 2nd rounder is a tad generous.

"... the Cowboys almost certainly could have grabbed Frederick in the second round if they really wanted him. And given their glaring need at the safety position, passing up Florida safety Matt Elam (who the Baltimore Ravens took with the next pick) and Florida International safety Jonathan Cyprien (who will be a second-round steal for somebody) would tend to indicate that neither Jones in charge understands the concept of player value.

The Cowboys' recent draft history doesn't just suggest that fast; it confirms it. The team has precisely zero picks left on the roster from the 2009 draft -- also known as the Roy Williams draft, because that was when the Joneses got fleeced by the Detroit Lions into giving up their first-round pick for receiver Roy Williams."

I'd like to think the Cowboys knew what they were doing, but the article makes a good point about getting swindled with the Roy Williams deal. Sounds like the Cowboys don't do their homework when it comes to talent.

Did Rex Ryan tell Geno to say that!? Did Geno really have to make that prediction after everything the Jets are going through with the loss of Revis? Rex is on the hot seat, so the young man needs to choose his words more carefully. Last thing the Jets need are more unfulfilled predictions. Thankfully, Geno didn't say the Jets were a dream team!

  8. http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2013/04/26/patriots-trade-2th-pick-in-nfl-draft-to-vikings-for-4-choices-this-year/#ixzz2RXcUUj4p

    Vikings got:

    1st round 29th pick.

    Pats get:

    2nd round 52nd pick.

    3rd round 83rd pick.

    4th round 102nd pick.

    7th round 229th pick.

So the Vikings will not be picking at all on Friday. I'd love to hear what that phone conversation was like. The Vikings are no doubt embracing a "win now" culture, so these 1st rounders better produce, or people in their organization are getting chopped.
