  1. My favorite part of the run we saw yesterday?... It helped close out the win. If this was the Peyton Manning team of old, we'd have to still be throwing the ball to keep our offense out there and risk stopping the clock. Not now. Now, we can reliably pick up 1st downs and still keep the clock moving.

Running the ball also really took the crowd out of it. Nothing better than seeing empty 49'er seats in the 4th Q, seeing them facepalm, or throw their hands up in disbelief.

  2. He shouldn't have been in the game to begin with. As for Smith's performance, you have to wonder if all this hoopla effected his mentality and level of play. Hate to say but Castonzo isn't exactly a stellar LT, so to have Castonzo shutdown one of the best pass rushers in the league is a shock.

  3. These penalties gave Buffalo a whopping eight 1st downs. Rex Ryan even had to bench one player. These 20 penalties set a Jets franchise record. The record # of penalties in an NFL game is 22, set I believe by San Francisco and possibly two other teams.

But hey, the Jets won so I guess it's all good, right?... No, it's not. Jets suck. I'd ask Rex to drop the hammer on these punks, but I feel Rex is just as much to blame with his coaching mentality. This is the most undisciplined team I've seen in a long time, but at least tonight they emerged as winners.

That's the most glowing endorsement yet the Colts made a good trade. It's worth re-mentioning from Dustin's topic that Holmgren would have traded the entire 2012 draft to us for Andrew Luck, so Holmgren may not be the best evaluator for all this in the first place.

  5. Plus, I think we only have Bradshaw on a one season contract anyways. Trent we have him on a 3-season I believe. Trent is the new future RB of our franchise for that reason. Ahmad is just there to serve in short yard situations and as a stop gap, and if he doesn't like it, that's fine too. Vick Ballard is waiting in the wings once he's healthy to replace him.

  6. I think he will get limited plays, mostly as a pass blocker. Pep Hamilton knows he needs to use him because he will take a lot of flak otherwise not only from Colts fans, but the entire league. Tons of eyes are now on the Colts. We've made front headline news. We just did the biggest trade of the season thus far. If Trent is not used at least sparingly, there will be drama, and Pep doesn't want that.

  7. He still has value... As a backup. We have two RB's with injury-prone bodies, even if both are good at playing through most of those injuries. We need a jester, like Brown, who can get on the field and pretend like he's a RB. Yes, he's an insanely overpriced jester, but we can't let the fool go until his contract is up. Jesters get contracts to, ya know.

  8. My issue is even if you do remove helmets/pads, yes, it may deter hard-hitting physical contact for, what, a decade?... But what happens when the lack of protection is in-grained into the players mindsets and our players take on the mentality of hard-nosed Rugby players?

We also need to consider the jump from the college level to the pro's. College players will be transitioning from helmets/pads to no helmets/pads. That is a big leap in learning for the rookies. Owners likely would not vote on this change to avoid damaging their 1st round prospects chances and teams with young QB's or poor o-line's certainly would frown on this. And no, college players cannot play without protection -- you would have parents pulling their hair out.

While the rest of the country watched the Manning's duke it out, most of Florida and California were forced to watch the Jags-Raiders game due to regional coverage rules. What results is an awkward moment where the Orlando station feels the need to display what looks like a weather alert apologizing for showing the game.

Yea, you know your team is bad when your own station is apologizing for showing the game.

  10. Before the start of the season, there were question marks who would get the 1st overall pick: Jacksonville or Oakland. Now, there are no doubts...

How does a team only score 3 pts in the first three quarters against Oakland? The Jags did score a TD, but it was meaningless with 2:53 left in the 4th Q. Even Maurice Jones Drew only averaged 2.7yds/run with 8yds being his longest run. The Jags could barely get in FG range to take advantage of Scobee's leg. They also had 10 penalties for 70yds, which reeks of undisciplined confused players.

What's most head scratching is the Jags defense had some great moments: They forced Oakland into 4/14 3rd down efficiency, 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles (1 lost), yet somehow the Jags offense couldn't capitalize on any of this!?

In my fantasy elimination pool, I'm going to try picking against the Jags whenever I can, regardless of who plays against them. I'm beginning to think they should have stuck with Del Rio. Jags fans better get those paper sacks out again.

  11. I can't get over how awful of a block that was. It looks like Brown went low, but he made the mistake of diving for the block, so he ended up grabbing nothing but air. The defender simply sidesteps him and finds an easy lane up the middle to pressure Luck. Brown should have stood his ground to at least get a chip block on the defender.

I'm also curious why Pep didn't insert Bradshaw into the play. Bradshaw is renowned for excellent pass blocking (for a HB, anyways). I know they're trying to be careful of Bradshaw's post-injuries, but when everything is on the line on 4th down, team's need to field their best players. Donald is not one of our best players.

It's impossible to say, but having that extra second for Luck could have made a huge difference, and I guarantee Irsay is not happy with this performance after his tirade on Twitter about protecting Luck.
