  1. I agree somewhat with the previous point that Freeney and Mathis generally have not shown much in past preseasons. However, this preseason is different for them especially. They are playing in new positions in a new defensive scheme. They should not take their reps in preseason so lightly. This is why I'm a little worried. I am under the impression that they are playing hard, but are ineffective to this point.

I do expect improvement once they figure this out. They're both incredibly atheletic and capable.

  2. Being that we haven't shown much in the running game thus far, I would guess that we will rely heavely on the pass. So Luck may end up having better stats. I think that he will have more wins, (he needs to win more than 3 games). I also think that he will have less INT's because the passing game so far has shown to have a lot of short and intermediate routes. He will not be taking too many chances.

  3. Offense

    26.3 points a game, Ranked 4th

    374.0 Yds a game, Ranked 4th

    289.3 Passing Yds, Ranked 2nd

    84.7 Rushing Yds, Ranked 25th

    Defense

    19.7 Points a game, Ranked 16th

    309.0 Yds a game, Ranked 16th

    188.7 Passing yds a game, Ranked 13th

    120.3 Rushing Yards, Ranked 23rd

    for all players stats etc.

Well I think my good old friend FJC was right we will be passing a little more this year. If pre-season is any indication

The passing numbers are very impressive, considering we have rookie TEs, mostly rookie receivers, and a rookie QB. The rushing stats on both offense and defense...not so much.
  4. i think the coaching staff will try to keep collie away from the middle of the field because thats where all the big hits happen.

I hope that you are right. I do recall that one of his concussions came from running a skinny post, leading right to the safety. It took a while to recover from that concussion and when he did, he ran a skinny post which led to another concussion. I always wondered if Manning regreted throwing that pass, knowing it was the same exact route Collie was running.

I hope that this coaching staff is smarter than the last one. Part of it is that Collie has taken some avoidable hits, but some of them have just been plain unusual, and kind of a fluke.

  5. Will this have an effect on Luck's play? In many situations, as a QB, you have to unload the ball fast, and usually to a guy that's in a tight situation. Would Luck hesitate to throw to Collie to try to perserve him from taking a big hit, yet cost the team a reception?

  6. I think that our runningbacks are just fine. Donald Brown was not the reason for our low rushing output in our last game. The O-line simply did not hold up against Washington's D-line. There were no holes to run through. You could see that Donald Brown and Ballard were getting hit behind the line on most of the running plays.

The O-line was the problem in our last game. Even Barry Sanders would've had issues running behind our line yesterday.

  7. Hmmm...I'm iffy on how much Luck should play. So far, the QB and receivers have been a bright spot on offense. I'd rather they play a series or two and call it a night. I'm more in favor of having a healthy squad at this point. The game against the Redskins changed my mind on how much starters should play in the preseason.

  8. We did do one big thing to address the run defense, but that was an investment for the future: Josh Chapman. Give Chapman a year to really recover and get ready and I think he can play up to the value of the 2nd round pick we just traded.

I agree with you there. I am very excited to see Chapman. I too think that he has a lot of potential and can make a difference in stopping the run.

I still think that we have to have the mindset that we want to win every game, every week, every year. So until Chapman is back, we still have to find a solution for the interim, given that Chapman really is the solution.

  9. The trade will have an impact on our defense, but perhaps not enough. From what I have seen in our last three preseason games is that we still have issues with the following:

    A) Stopping the run

    B) Running the ball effectively on offense

    C) Inconsistency on the O-line.

    D) Inconsistant pass rush

At least we now have two good corners and we can approach the season with some confidence in our secondary. The problem is that in our division, the best player on the Jags is MJD, who will most likely play in time for our game; the best player on the Titans is CJ2K, and Arian Foster is one of the best players on the Texans. We have no answer against good rushing teams and it would be a shame to not have addressed this after years of ineptness.

  10. We've known for a while that we've had many holes to fill. Then our first and second preseason games gave us a glimpse of hope that maybe we've addressed some of the issues we knew about coming into the season. After this game, it's evident that we still have a long ways to go.

It's not a bad thing to have a loss like this in the preseason. It will be a wake up call to the coaches, and the players.

  11. TK....

If you're saying Whalen's talent has gotten 'bigger'... fine.

But if you're saying Whalen's body has gotten bigger.... not so sure about that....

I don't think he's got the frame to carry very much weight. I doubt anyone who knows him would ever think to call him HUGE. At his pro day, he was 5'11" and 185.

    Hey, just sayin....

NCF...TK was saying that his body has gotten bigger. Whalen looked noticeably bigger in last nights game. He's definitely added a lot of muscle.
  12. I predict Garcon will get into a fight or at the very least he'll talk trash and get in someone's face. He'll come out with something to prove.

I really like what we've seen from our offense the past two games. I think we'll be tough to stop. So far, this preseason has been the most exciting preseason since.... I can't remember.

  13. I know this wouldn't be good for us as Colts fans, but I would have Manning go to SF rather than Denver. We all know how good their defense is, and here are the weapons that Mannig would have on offense:

    1. Vernon Davis

    2. Michael Crabree

    3. Mario Manningham

    4. a rejuvinated Randy Moss (reports from camp are very positive).

    5. Frank Gore

    6. Delanie Walker

    7. Kendall Hunter

    8. Lamichael James

    9. A.J. Jenkins?

    10. A very, very good O-line

  14. 1. I would like to see the O-line perform a little better. I think they did a good job, but had a few shaky moments.

    2. Andrew luck to continue with his impressive performance.

    3. See how our run game performs against a really good defense.

    4. I'd like for our DB's to create some more turn-overs and keep tackling they way they did in the Rams game.

    6. Curious how our LB's will do in the absense of Angerer.

    7. See if Donnie Avery can make an impact in this game, since he missed the last game.

Im adding onto my own list....

    8. I keep hearing about the Steelers speedy receivers. I would really like for us to showcase our speedy receivers with some deep over the top TDs.

  15. Seattle showed a fast and agressive defense in their previous game. Their offense...not so much.

It should be a good test for Manning, and if he does get hit I hope it's not too hard and proves to himself, and everyone else, that he's fine.
