  1. Let's not forget that Sanchez has beaten the Colts before. Tebow WAS a good runner before the Jets asked him to put on weight and become a fullback. He's much heavier and less shifty now. I'd much rather face Tebow who hasn't shown this year that he can run, and has really never shown that he can pass.

  2. So, if I'm reading this properly -- and I like to think that I am -- Donald Brown is better than Arian Foster, right?

It might not necessarily mean that Brown is better. If anything, it's an indication of how much better Houston's O-line is compared to ours. Look at how often Foster was able to get past the line of scrimmage before getting touched. I wish we could afford that luxury.
  3. Luck has been very good in the two minute drill. Partly because he was able to call a lot of the plays at Stanford and they at times ran a very good hurry-up offense. That experience has helped Luck transition into the NFL nicely.

As for the breakdown of our poor second half performances, it really has been a combination of poor execution both offensively and defensively. I would agree that we were very conservative the second half of the Vikings game, but we were not as much during the Jaguars game. We simply did not execute well offensively, and had a lapse on just a few BIG plays defensively.

  4. The coaches will work with Freeman, Angerer and the LB-ing corps every day at practice. They will have a good feel for who is playing better and who will give us the best chance to win. Let's put our trust in the coaches. We can debate who we think should start (purpose of this thread), but ultimately, the coaching staff will make the best deicision based on the information that they have, and will continue to get leading up t the game.

  5. Let Davis get settled in some before you write hime off Flash:) I agree with you that he's not there yet but I can't remeber the last time I seen a corner for the Colts w as much talent!!

I agree with you JTrouble. I haven't written him off yet. I guess the point that I was trying to get across is that he isn't there yet. And if he doesn't play next week, it will not be that much of a loss, since he's not at the top of his game and not that much better than his replacement, at this point. I think he has the potential to be very, very good.
  6. how many yards has he gave up. 39yrds vs vikings and what like 25yrds vs jags. and like 75yrds against the Bears(with 42yrds on one play) his high percentage of catches has been on high percentage throws(quick bubble screens, hitches, and 7yrd slants) nothing major but the Jeffery td. I'll take my top cb just giving up those kind of yards a game i can live with that

You make a great point. He hasn't given up much yardage, but he hasn't made many successful plays on the ball either. I think that Davis can eventually be what we all hope his is. But for now, I seem to think that he's not quite there yet--but what do I know?
  7. I have gone back and watched all three regular season games this year (NFL game rewind). Fleener hasn't played bad, he just hasn't had any break out plays yet.

He's had a few drops, but after watching the games and keeping an eye out for Fleener, I noticed that the drops that he has had have been passes that were well over his head, and Fleener has reached out to get his hands on the ball. There was one drop where the ball was at his ankles and he reached for the ball but couldn't bring it in. We count those as drops, but they really weren't catchable balls to begin with.

When the ball was catchable, he's made the catches and has been tough to bring down. Also, his blocking has been much better than we've been giving him credit for.

  8. I'm don't put much value in "rankings". They can be a bit misleading.

    Prefer core #'s.

It is early so it is not exactly apples to apples, but here is the comparison to 2010, 2011 & This year.

    scomparison20101112.jpg

So in a nutshell, our passing game has improved, while our running game has not. On Defense, we're giving up way too many points, and way too many yards per pass on average. So far, our average yards per rush is the same as last year. Where did we rank on run defense last year?
  9. Vontae Davis hasn't shown much since joining the Colts. He's allowed an incredibly high percentage of receptions that have been thrown his way. Opposing QBs have a ridiculously high rating throwing at him. And when he has made a play on the ball, he's been called for pass interference.

So far...not a good pickup. And based on the way he's been playing in the last three games, we will not miss out on much if he doesn't play in game 5.

Powers on the other hand, has played like our #1 corner. He's been amazing.

  10. TBH there are a lot of really bad looking o lines out there right now. Our next opponent, the Packers.....their o line has looked like a complete mess and is ranked dead last.

Well to be fair to the Packers, they've played the Niners, the Bears, and the Seahawks. All three of those teams have very good D-lines and LBs. Plus, it may be a little too early to rank offensive units just after three games. But it is a good stat to keep up with after halfway through the season.
  11. What else are we supposed to talk about then for a few weeks? How awful we are?

Besides, it's not unheard of that we can hang with any team and show improvement even in a loss. *shrugs* You can talk about any game even if you are a heavy underdog.

I don't give up on ANY game. And heck the Pack are pretty much my second favorite team too but they are not unbeatable.

I do wonder how tonights robbing of the Packers via refs is going to effect them moving forward too.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be negative. I'm just not much of a "rah-rah" guy. Absolutely we can talk about the game and what we expect.

What I see, and don't like, is that right now we equate to that annoying little dog that barks at everything. We're about to get into a fight with a pit bull - the Packers. Yes every dog has it's day, but I try to taper my expectations. I expect us to play like a team that's rebuilding.

  12. Guys, are we doing this again? Getting our hopes up? I know "any given Sunday" but let's taper our hopes and work with reality.

-We thought we could hang with the Bears because "Cutler's not that great and Marshall is overrated." How did that turn out?

-We lost to the freakin' Jags! We barely beat the Vikings.

I see a game where we will lose, hang in there, take our lumps and learn. Barely any chance of a win.

  13. somebody else said it, almost every other team in the league would have played it the same way and I completely agree.

I don't necessarily agree with this. There are numerous teams that would have taken a lead and built on it. The Saints, Patriots, Ravens, Broncos, Jets, Steelers, Giants would have played to win, not played to hold onto a dismal lead. They especially would not have tried to run out the clock for two quarters. Maybe most of the fourth, but they would have played all out in the third.
  14. This is a great debate because I can see both sides of the arguement. This is what I see. We had a 17-6 lead going into the half. When we came out for the second half, we played not to lose, rahter than playing to win. I hate that kind of attitude.

You play to win in the third quarter, and part of the fourth quarter, and then run out the clock with 8 minutes left to play. We just stopped trying to win and did our best to hold onto a lead. Obviously, it didn't work because the Vikings tied up the game.

What did work was asking Luck to drive us for a win, which is what I feel is our strength. We went away from it and it drove me crazy because I know WE CAN'T RUN and so does the entire league.

  15. The attitude of Colt fans is an interesting study. When a 14 point 4th quarter lead vanishes, 90% of the fans out there would blame their defense. What do Colt fans point to? Play calling. Why is that? Because they're used to Manning doing everything and winning every game for them. They simply accept the fact they have no power running game and a pathetic defense. But you're right Smitto, this is precisely the attitude Pagano is trying to change. How the Colts played with a two TD lead is how 90% of the teams in the league would have played it, especially with a rookie QB and rookies, new players and inexperienced players across the field. Pagano has alluded to the fact that he wants to instill a different attitude, where you can run against a stacked box when you want to, and your defense can hold a two TD lead for you... where your QB isn't relied on to do everything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was our rookie QB who led us to have a 2-TD lead, was it not? We took our best player out of the game by asking him to continually hand off so that we could ask our runningbacks to run the same dive up the middle over and over again, all producing the same result.

I agree that a GOOD run game is a rookie QBs best friend, not a run game that puts a rookie QB in third an long-- must pass situations. This is actually worse for a rookie QB.

Also, other teams would not try to run out the clock with 2 quarters left, a whole half of a game. Maybe with 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter. We tried to run out the clock for two quarters!!!

When we needed Luck to produce, he did. All through the first half, and in a clutch game winning drive. Let's go with what works--give Luck the ball because we will live and die with how well he plays.

  16. Those numbers make me think he is throwing to his primary target a lot.

2 games does not a season make. haha!

If we had a good, veteran O-Line it would help ol Andrew, instead he is getting lots of practice moving in the pocket. :neener: Allen was so close yesterday.

When we get some running game ...

Cory Redding really caught my eye, he was really good yesterday.

Every QB will have a favorite target, such as Andre Johnson, Megatron, Stve Smith, AJ Green, and Reggie Wayne. When the Vikings emphasized taking away Wayne, it didn't slow down Luck, who found Avery and several other receivers. This is a good sign. After two games, Luck has shown that he can make the proper adjustments and get everyone involved.
  17. Good topic..

    Week 1 8 different targets

40% of Targets went to Wayne

62% of Targets went to Wayne/Fleener

80% of Targets went to Wayne/Fleener/Avery

    Week 2 8 different targets

36% of targets went to Avery

61% of targets went to Avery/Wayne

75% of targets went to Avery/Wayne/Fleener

Still having a high% going to the same 3...

Through 2 weeks 11 different targets:

    34% went to Wayne

    25% went to Avery

    19% went to Fleener

78% of targets went to that trio.

Thanks for the statistical breakdown. Good info!

I am really glad that Luck found Allen for a TD. It'll keep Allen motivated as he will not primarily be used just to block.

  18. After the first game, it appeared that Luck heavely targeted Reggie Wayne and Fleener. It made it a little easier for opposing defenses to gameplan for the Colts. But after this week, Luck targeted Wayne, Fleener, Allen, and speedy Avery. With Luck targeting different receivers in different situations, defenses will be left guessing, and will have to defend the whole field as Avery has demonstrated that he can take the lid off of the defense.

    I am liking this!
