  1. Exactly, which is why we should use the high picks we get in return for the Luck pick to draft mostly players that can contribute right away (such as WRs, RBs, return specialist/WR), and address the positions of need, that typically take time to develop (such as OL, DL, QB, and CB), via free agency and/or trade. The one exception is that we should definitely use one of those 1st or 2nd round picks to get a huge, talented interior o-lineman. There are gonna be lots of solid defensive free agents available and a few really good interior o-linemen too. I think we are gonna lose/cut several players this offseason, which should free up a significant amount of cap space to sign outside free agents. And I'm feeling just fine about Painter as our backup QB for next season based on what I've seen lately. We could get one of the elite WR (Jeffery, Blackmon, or Floyd), a beast OG (Cordy Glenn-G from Georgia-6'5"-348 lbs or Kelechi Osemele-G from Iowa State-6'5"-347 lbs), another very solid WR that is also an excellent return specialist (Ryan Broyles-WR from Oklahoma), and a 2nd round steal gamebreaking RB (LaMichael James-RB from Oregon). I'm pretty sure those guys would help us immediately, and in a huge way!

That is a more reasonable point. It's just that I disagreed with the people that were supporting letting rookies develop under Manning when their whole argument is about winning now. Developing rookies take time, but some don't as you pointed out. I'm more for drafting those plug-in guys. But some people are mistaken thinking all of our picks will be plug-ins.

Honestly, I feel we are headed for rough times regardless we draft Luck or not. This team has too many holes that can't be filled in the near future. I feel it will take at least 3-5 years of smart drafting and FA signings to make this team more balanced.

  2. I don't get why one pick is gonna destroy our chances of rebuilding this team. Trading this single pick will NOT, I repeat, WILL NOT fix ALL OF THE GLARING HOLES ON THIS TEAM! Why not just draft Luck and use our other high picks to continue to build this team. One pick will not doom this team. A lot of other things besides drafting Luck will doom this team, and some of them are happening right now this year.

And people say that it is the time to win now, well you don't do that by drafting. Signing a bunch rookies is not gonna help us win now. Peyton does not have time to wait for rookies to develop.

  3. If that is even close to being true why in the world would the colts still have him on the active roster? peyton will be back next season.. im not for getting luck but im a staunch painter fan, the colts do not need luck... because he is not going to play when peyton returns.. im all for getting the future QB BUT not now although this may be the perfect season to get one because of the colts early round pick but they will not get luck.

None of us know if Peyton will come back next year healthy or not. That's why the Colts put in his contract he has to pass a physical first before he can get a paycheck (can't find the source right now but it has been said on this board plenty of times). If they were 100% about Peyton, why would they put that in his contract? I'm not counting out Peyton but you can't look at this situation from a fan's perspective. IMO, Peyton will be back, but from a business standpoint, we have to protect the future. You are right, we don't NEED Luck, but opportunities like this will not come around.

Like I said before, I'm all for not getting Luck if we make our team bigger (not brayton and anderson bigger), build an elite defense, and a line that will run block, but if not then we should draft Luck.

Also, why can't we draft Luck and sign who we need out of FA? Like you say, if this is a "now" situation, can't we sign a lineman out of FA? It will take time for any rookies we draft to learn and become better. Why not draft Luck if this isn't a "Next-Man-Up" team? Luck is one of a kind. He is not a Leaf, Tebow, Bradford, etc.

  4. It seems like it's the same people who thought we were gonna be ok with Collins are the same people saying drafting Luck is not the way to go. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. No one expected Peyton to play this season. Many of you were 100% sure he was gonna start the first game of the season. No we are 0-4 with no sign of Peyton coming back this year. He MAY come back next year and he may NOT. If the chance is there to take Luck...WE TAKE IT! It's a good business move for the future. 15 years down the line is more important than 2-5 years down the line IMO. If we have a chance to take the future now, take it.

  5. checkmate +1

Let me add one....Drew Bledsoe/Tom Brady

We have the chance to do something a lot of other teams have not been able to do, PASS THE TORCH. And some of you talk about this rebuilding thing when Peyton gone, why not start early? If we draft Luck, after Peyton retires, we will already have our future QB in place and he may be ready to carry this team seeing as he has been sitting and learning behind one of the greats. Then only thing we have to do is count on the front office to build an offense and DEFENSE around Luck and this franchise will be set for another 15 years. I also think Luck will be willing to sit because him and Peyton already have a good relationship.

I feel if we have the chance we should take him.

    EDIT: after Peyton retires

  6. True, there is also Hughes and Ugoh. I still say try and make some calls and see if anyone would trade for a late pick. It's worth a shot before just cutting him.

True, I feel like Brown could work in a system where his only objective is to run when he is called upon. Blocking is not in his repertoire and he can go out for a catch here and then. This offense might be too much for him.

I would argue Ugoh was because we traded a second pick and a first round pick for him. Brown just screwed up one draft pick and frankly we've found other backs to kinda offset Brown. Ugoh hurt us with those two picks plus we had to come back and use our first rounder this year on a tackle because he didn't work out so that's three picks because of one player?

Oh man, TOTALLY forgot about Ugoh. I stand corrected. Donald Brown is Polian's SECOND player mistake made.

  7. I didn't like the Caldwell choice to begin with. I gave him a chance but after a while, I knew it was Peyton running the team and not Caldwell. After that, I wanted him gone. We need a stand up coach who will bring attitude to this team. Attitude does not mean a smash mouth talking Rex Ryan type, but someone who take risks, gets his team's morale up (Tony Dungy was able to do it without yelling so we don't need one of those rowdy types), etc.

  8. Donald Brown is the biggest mistake of Polian's drafting career with the Colts. You spend a 1st round draft pick on a running back who would have been there in the 2nd or maybe even later rounds. Someone said in an earlier post cutting him would look bad, well him being a 1st round pick with years under his belt behind a 4th round pick looks worse. I didn't like the pick then and I HATE it now.

  9. I'm all drafting defense if we change our defensive scheme, not going from 4-3 to 3-4, but going to a base cover 2 and drafting bigger. If we're gonna stick with this swiss cheese defense, I'm on the "Suck For Luck" bandwagon. If we stay the same (which I think we will do) and not draft a future QB who isn't Andrew Luck, you new fans better get used to losing like this.

  10. Tony Dungy lacked emotion, too..

Yeah, but he wasn't any push over either. He signed who he wanted, traded for who he wanted, and LEFT when he wanted. Tony Dungy wasn't a puppet and had respect from EVERYONE in the organization. From what Tyron says, Caldwell is questionable. Belicheck lacks emotion too, but he isn't a pushover. (Sorry to use a Patriots example, lol)

  11. Another reason for why we need a new coach. I understand Polian is his boss but when are you going to put your foot down? Yes, he has been cleaning house but I feel Caldwell is just a puppet. I'm not a Caldwell basher but this just doesn't sit right. I want (and I think majority of us do) a coach who stands up and shows emotion when it's crunchtime instead of bowing down to his superiors and giving us answers that sound like they were read off a paper. I'm sorry, but Caldwell is coming off as weak to me. I gave him a chance, but this just takes the cake.

And another thing, to add onto the "What Peyton brings to this team" discussion, with Peyton gone, a lot of holes are really being exposed and it seems like the holes are getting higher and higher, from the team to the coaches to the front office. This is getting out of hand. Now coaches are being exposed, who's next?

  12. Everybody loves the new guy.

Brackett's been very good for us..

Keyword: been. Brackett has been good for us but lately his production does not match his price tag. This is similar to the Hayden incident except Brackett is up in age. As said in a previous post, what is the point of keeping a high priced aging LB if he can't produce? If he comes back for a pay cut then I'm all for it, but over-paying for him and not producing will only result with a bullet in the foot.

  13. So you decide to post this after they barely lose against a very good Saints team? The Texans had the Saints number today but as stated earlier, they choked. The Texans are legit. They have been building that team for years and finally it is coming together. In my opinion, with the way the Texans have been playing, even if Peyton Manning was playing, we would have split the season with the Texans 1-1 this year.

  14. i think because we have to many run stoppers, but just a thought.

lmao, I feel he was the only respectable DT we had that could stop the run. But I since some sarcasm here.

I am guessing it was the latter I highly doubt the Colts would have cut him if he just wanted to be treated like a starter and provding leadership and was stepping up. In fact I am sure they would have welcomed him with open arms.

I know, it's just that I hate when the Colts have these "mysterious cuts" and no one knows why the person got until later in the year. I was really looking forward to him playing also. :(

  15. Did Tommie Harris beat out the other DT's for the starting position? If so, treat him like a starter. I understand it's team first but there is also a thing called "leadership" and "stepping up". Maybe him wanting to be treated like a starter was to show his leadership skills. Now, if he wanted to be treated like a star and had a snobbish attitude, then yeah, give him the boot. But if he wanted recognition and he earned it, give it to him. If we were to sign a good veteran DB and he out performed the guys on the team, give the guy some recognition.

  16. We were better off saving the money we used for Collins and just use Painter all season. I gave Collins a chance but when you can barely produce against the Browns, then you lose my support. Painter could have not done any worse. With playing Painter, we can see if he's our QB of the future or not. But with playing Collins, only thing this shows is how bad this team needs a high caliber QB that can cover all of the team's flaws on both sides of the ball like Peyton does.

  17. I see us winning this 13-10. Like the OP said, it's the Browns so they're offense is a little more predictable than the Texans. The Colts tend to do well against one dimensional run teams (ie '09 Jets). Hopefully, we can contain Peyton Hillis and Josh Cribbs. Other than that, Colt McCoy shouldn't be a problem. We can't be THIS low of a team without Peyton Manning....I hope.
