  1. Other than Peyton Manning, I don't think much has changed at all. I think if Peyton were playing, we would probably be 5-2. These problems were always here. The days of the Colts blowing out teams have been gone for years. It has been coming down to the last drive. Without Peyton, we aren't winning those games.

Pass D has gotten worse., Run D has gotten better (Not saying much), O-Line has gotten worse., LB core has gotten worse.

Yeah, a lot has changed. Too many questionable moves.

  2. "this one has to be top 3"

The Indy era has been really bad aside from a few descent mid 90's teams, and Peyton... so that's saying something.

I mean, isn't this THE biggest point deficit of the SB era for a game? If so, it gets a Top 3 stamp just for breaking a record. As far as worst Colts games ever, this has to be somewhere in the top.

  3. In that span (ie: since 2006), we've made two Super Bowls. How many other teams have done that? One, the Steelers. And like us this year, they too have missed the playoffs.

Can't say their decision making has been that bad. If it's so terrible, we wouldn't have gotten anywhere during that stretch.

I'm not saying there isn't work that needs to be done, but seriously...

The first SB I can say was a team effort, but WE ALL know why we made it to the last one and WE ALL know why we lost that one.

The colts very well could get a win against the titans next week cause the titans look like smelly chocolate.. but that being said, i was not ready for this type of season.. definitely caught me by surprise.

If the Titans are smelly chocolate, what are we?

  4. SMH, Peyton deserves/deserved so much more than this. He will go down as the GOAT, no doubt, but there will be a lot of "If's" in his legacy. For example, what if he had a high-powered defense for majority of his career? What if he had a good coach after Dungy retired? What if he had a Wes Welker/Darren Sproles type player? What if he had __________?

Peyton legacy as the GOAT has been cemented. Definitely after tonight.

  5. This really saddens me. First Reggie, now Jeff.

I don't like our team being fodder for the media, especially about issues with the team and coaching staff.

I realize there are problems, as we all do. But giving the "talking heads" something else to blow out of proportion is not good for anyone imo.

Obviously they can not bring it to the attention of anyone inside the organization because they will either be silenced or moved.

With that said, it has begun. Sooner or later there will be a division in the locker room. I feel like the locker room has felt like this for quite a while. But now with no playoffs in our future and almost no point of competing, what better time to speak your mind.

  6. He needs to go. It is evident now. These are MADDEN numbers! 62-7? Only thing that was good that came out of this game was Delone Carter and that the score wasn't 62-0. Not only did we lose bad, but we lost bad on National TV. Now, everyone attention will be drawn to how low the Colts can go. Just wait until ESPN and NFLN start coming down us hard!

  7. Peyton would not be able to win with this team against good teams like the Saints. I understand it's Peyton but man, I thought we only needed a year or two of drafts and FA to get back to where we were, but it looks like we not a lot more than 2 years. That was just god awful. I would wear a bag over my head for this one loss period! I've seen the Colts play some bad games but man, this one has to be top 3.

  8. To keep it as simple as possible, both scenarios are about us doing something to "increase our chances of ________." (fill in the blank). No matter what it was for, we still took the gas off the pedal. Do I think tanking the season for the playoffs was wrong? No, therefore I can't have a problem with tanking the season for Luck or whoever if we have already lost the season.

My question to those who support tanking the season for health but disagree tanking the season for Luck, how can you do that? In both situations, the destiny for us is pretty much decided. In one we were headed to playoffs with a #1 seed and another we are headed to the NFL draft with a potential top 5 pick. Only difference between the situations is the different spectrum. On one side we were winning and on one side we are losing. And I have seen the "This is football, we should put the best product on the field" argument from people who supported giving up the 16-0. That's contradicting yourself.

PS: When I say tank, I don't mean go out and lose on purpose, use this as an experiment. Open the playbook up, try a new scheme, etc. But I can't really count on our coaching staff do such things except stick with the gameplan no matter the situation.

  9. I have been a colts fan since they moved here and I have no plans of not being in the future (yes I know it is a double negative but it works). I suffered as did many others through the 1 and 15, the 3 and 13 years. Suffered through the ‘we just might pull this game out’ only to watch it ripped away in the last minutes with dumb play calls, inferior play, a coach with the look of not knowing what is happening and that doesn’t have a clue how to fix it, and sometimes just bad luck and no I am not talking about this year, however I am sure that some of the more seasoned fans see a lot of similarities.

The Polian philosophy had its time and worked well within that time, however I believe that its effectiveness has run its course. Teams have adjusted to it and it no longer works. It is time for something new. All good things must come to an end and I believe that we are well past the beginning of the end. Unfortunately the Polians are so entrenched that it will most likely take past Peyton’s career before things get so out of control that Irsay finally opens his eyes as to how bad it really is. I used to believe in Bill but no longer.

As hard as it is for me to say, the only way real changes will happen sooner rather than later is for the players, coaching staff, Front office and Owner to be completely embarrassed for the remainder of the year. To be totally blown out every remaining game. To be made more of a laughing stock for the league and media than they are now. Only then will something be done unless of course you want to wait another 5, 6, 7 years for things to turn around, continually giving passes and making excuses because if this or that circumstance, trying to protect the memories of past glory. Blind faith and devotion are great to a point but there comes a time that even the most die harders have to take off their colored glass and admit that something is wrong. Hope and belief doesn’t fix everything. I know it sounds heartless. I know that I will be ridiculed and called an (insert expletive here) and frankly I don’t care. There is such a thing as tough love and now more than ever is that time.

The Polian mentality and way of things has become obsolete. It is time for a change.

Prepare to be roasted lol. BTW, I agree with you. I feel like we are a victim of our own success. The low draft picks year after year, not changing our philosophy because of the "that's what we do" mentality, reluctance let go players and staff of "past success", and a whole lot more. I feel this draft should be Polian's chance to prove himself. If we are able to grab a crop of talent out of this draft with the high we will get this year, then we will have to blame his recent failures on our success. But if we come out of this draft with as many busts and under performing players as previous years, I think it's time for him to go. It's time for a lot of other people to go also.

  10. So Garcon, a player who was key in getting them to the Super Bowl but drops a potential TD and that is the fault of the coach or the GM?

Or Manning making a poor throw on a route they run all the time is somehow Caldwell's fault?

I'm just getting tired of people blaming different players for why we lose when it's the GM who signs these players and the coach who coaches these players. There are only so many times you can blame a player before you have to start looking upstairs. Garcon drop and Manning throw didn't lose that game, we lost that game the minute we began to play conservative in the biggest game of the year. You don't go to the SB to play conservative, you go to the SB to take the trophy home. I blame the us playing conservative and playing 7 yds off of the WR's so Drew Brees can pick us apart on the coaches.

  11. Completely ridiculous.

    1) Manning's Int - Wayne's poor route

    2) Freeney's ankle

    3) Garcon's drop

    4) Baskett not securing the kick

Those are all components of player execution and not anything having to do with Caldwell. The PLAYERS make those plays and you are talking about a Super Bowl winning coach.

Ummm, isn't that the coach's job to make sure his team execute? So let me get this straight, it's not Caldwell's fault why we lost the SB, it's Polian's fault for drafting and signing players who can't execute? This is what I mean. Everyone is passing the blame onto the players but who coaches and signs those players?

  12. I guess the most troubling thing to me about this topic is that so many of you seem to be fine with the fact that without Manning the Colts dont win, and are making excuses at every turn for those charged with having this team ready to play under any circumstance.

    THIS! THIS! THIS!

People are ok with the fact we can not win without Peyton Manning. While we ridicule Polian year in and year out for placing so much pressure on Manning, we contradict ourselves by living with the fact that losing one player will decide our fate? I understand this is Peyton we are talking about but the game is much bigger than one player and if we have placed all our faith into one player then the fans and the teams have failed. There is a difference between a person that is a leader and a person that is a crutch.

I said this before, I am tired of people using the same excuses every year for our losses! Injuries, a play, a player, etc. This is a team and obviously we have not built a team but more of a supporting cast.

To settle this, Caldwell and company need to be blamed for the game mishaps and Polian and company need to be blamed for the team's mishaps. It is time to stop using excuses and acknowledge that the multiple mistakes from the past have finally caught up, one of the being Caldwell.

  13. Regardless, Caldwell may have his faults. The fact that he is not as emotional as you like is not one of those faults. It is just something that people who already don't like him use to for fault evidence of his shortcomings.

I am anti-Caldwell but let me say this. I could care less if our coach was screaming until he was hoarse or quiet as a mouse. I don't like Caldwell and any other coach from our staff because of the multiple bonehead decisions that have been made, the same answers we have been given for why we lose, the lack of in-game adjustments, etc.

I agree, not liking a coach because of his demeanor is stupid, but not liking a coach because of his performance is ok.

  14. Its basically the colts fault for building their defense the way they have done.... id rather have the way the raiders build their defense, basically their whole team is based on the 40... no matter how big or what position you play lol... the colts in this past decade has never had a great LB or CB.... or DT the colts need some of those.

I have to say we had one great DT, Booger McFarland! It's funny when we had him, that was the year we won the SB. Our front 4 was vicious, our corners were solid, linebackers were ehhhh, and our safeties were beast! That front 4 and Bob Sanders made it easy on everyone else on the defense during the playoffs.

  15. I said this in another thread. "Our defense is built around a player who doesn't play defense." Our defense wasn't built to contribute nor stop, it is built to sustain.

Of course, in NE, when one leader fell, the top leader stood strong (Bill). People may think TB runs that team, but on the contrary, BB is the man who runs things. IMO, Jim Caldwell was never a leader, just a consultant. Reason why people ended up liking Dungy because he lead. It seemed like Peyton was answering to Moore and Dungy but now it seems like Caldwell answers to Peyton.

  16. I feel like if your coach can't be held accountable for certain things then he is not a coach. A coach is suppose to be the leader and stand up when others fall....sounds a lot like Peyton to me. If this team sucks and Caldwell had little to do with why everyone except for maybe 7-10 players suck then he should get a pass. But if he had his hand in this then he and anyone else should feel some heat. YES, Peyton is the GOAT but I'm sure TB is not that far behind him and the Patriots still went 11-5. You surround your superstars with players who can contribute, that's how you win rings. It seems that this team was built to sustain. Only thing that was built around Peyton was his O-Line and WR's. Too bad, we let those players go and now we have this.

But as someone said, because of Peyton, everyone will have an excuse and truthfully, it should not be like that. Peyton is not playing and he still is being pressured.

  17. Every game we lose I see people blaming different players. Whether it was this person getting a penalty, or this people dropping a pass, or this person this or that. CUT IT OUT! If we were to cut the players that screw up everytime we would not have a team. That is how much people are using the players as the cop out. I am grateful that we are able to compete and are not getting blown out but this blaming different players thing has got to stop. People don't want to admit whether we have a crappy team or we have a crappy coach or we have crappy management. WHICH ONE IS IT? BECAUSE WE ARE 0-6 AND WE CAN ONLY BLAME THE PLAYERS FOR SO LONG! I am getting sick of people saying we will bounce back and get better. Only thing I see getting better is Painter and the run game, everything else has stayed the same or has gotten worse. I'm sorry, I don't think Peyton will be even be able to win another SB unless something big happens.

And this is not a rant, this is a fan getting sick of the cop-out's and has seen the writing on the wall.

  18. My guy who's the vice-assistant president of the custodial divison said the colts has a secret formation where they perform this step sequence and the opposing is immediately hypnotized and runs into their endzone for a safety. Remember where you heard it first! Coyer is a genius! No wonder we kept him around so long, he had a secret weapon the world couldn't accept at the time.
