We’ve already done that. Castonzo, Nelson, Kelly, and Smith (once he gets to start at RG) are all high picks. RT is the only spot we haven’t spent a high pick on. Unless you want to count Clark who was a 3rd rounder.

And it's coming together but as you can see the weakest spots are killing us, RT and LT.  LT is understandable because AC is out but RT is killing us right now.  Job isn't done yet.  I would even say we could upgrade our RG position.

  2. I would definitely say 2.  We're not bad, but we're not good.  We can win games, but we can also lose them.  We have a shot to be majority of the teams in the NFL.  But will we beat them...most likely not.  Our record will not reflect us.  We were in place to win all but 1 of our games.  Do I think this team is overachieving?  Yes.  I can see us ending at 7-9, 8-8, or 6-10.

  3. I’m going to say this again, if you thought that this team would be contending for the division, let alone a spot in the playoffs, then you were setting yourself up for disappointment.

We are all fans of this team but we also have to be realistic.  This team is young, not as talented as we think, and injured.

Enjoy the ride.  In my opinion, Ballard is building this team for longevity.  Getting young studs in place and keeping our cap nice and plump to splash on free agents when the time is right.

  4. Agreed about the oline.  The new system is masking some of its weaknesses, and injuries aren’t helping either.  But we do need maybe 2-3 more studs on the line.  RT, RG, and LT if AC can’t stay healthy.

disagree about the RB.  I think with a good oline, we could put anyone behind there and they would produce

    Also agree about the secondary.

  5. Please stop.  We are no where near the Pagano Era.

If it weren't for the coaching, improved defense, and Andrew Luck, we wouldn't be in these 'winnable' games.  In the Pagano Era, we would have been blown out.  We lost to a good division leading Bengals team and the defending SB champs who got their starting QB back.  Could we have won those games?  Yeah, but it's football, things happen, especially when you are team in the middle of a rebuild and have holes on both sides of the ball.

Enjoy the ride.  We are a young team in the middle of a rebuild.  Be happy that we are still competitive in our rebuild.  I am ok with the coaching.  I am more upset with our players than the coaching.  That is another topic, but Reich and co are doing a fine job.

The good pass defense also had to do with teams giving up on their efficient running game.   Seemed like 2 of every 3 games, Manning and the offense would score enough to make the opposing team give up on their running game and go pass only.   Freeney and Mathis would then pin their ears back and go at it.

That is correct!  Then teams found out the way to beat the colts was to keep manning OFF the field lol

but man, seeing those 2 get after it was some good stuff.

Lol Caldwell went from "should've been undefeated" to "should've lost every game" to 10-6. He wasn't terrible. Just lacked fire i guess.. but he really didn't have a shot..

My problem with Caldwell, even when were winning, was he wasn't aggressive enough.  We would get ahead and then we played to not lose the game which is a good way to lose a game.  I always said he's best fit for a team that needs a turnaround.  He can get your team to get wins but not aggressive enough to win those big ones.

  8. The one thing that sticks out to me from the previous regime to this one is that the young guys are contributing.  In the past, we depended on vets and FA signings to do most of the contributing.  This year so far, our young guys are the ones making the difference, especially on defense.  That is a good sign that someone knows what they are doing when the first year players can come in and play like vets.  Feeling very good about this team.  Different attitude for me.

I'll believe it when I see it when Ballard spends big on a free agent. He's been very frugal so far.

I agree with his frugality.  No reason to throw money around when this team has so many holes.  Fill some of those holes with young talent and bring in the FAs for whatever we can bring in.  Age is a factor too because this team is being built for a run, not win-now.
