  1. Colts are going to the Super Bowl. Reggie had a dream and his dreams always come true. Look at the video from yesterday of his locker conference.

He said he had a bigger game to play but was he referring to football?  The volume was kinda low and I may have missed something but I'm not sure what he was talking about when he said that.

  2. Just curious...how long have you been posting about the NFL? This is a serious question btw. I have been posting since the beginning of the internet, and I have seen at least 5 major forums collapse. They are all either completely gone, or they are a shell of their former self. No, this is not a "The sky is falling" moment. It is true that all opinions are welcome on this board, but it is also prudent, imo, to listen to the changes and acknowledge both where we are going and what we might be losing.  (the rest of this reply is not directed at you)

Fans have become increasingly more disconnected from their teams through the advent of fantasy football, and it is commonplace to see fans rooting for a player to score on their team, even though their team will still win, because they have a fantasy player on the other team. Fans can spell that any way they want, but it is undermining of the concept of believing in your team. If a fan is younger, and has only recently followed the NFL (10 years or less?), then their experience may be limited as to how fans have traditionally followed their team. Of course there are always exceptions, but the norm has shifted drastically.

I have taken part in dozens of forums in the last 15 years both as a fan as as a mod. After well over 100K in posts, I can at least suggest that my perspective is wide enough to give an opinion on what we have lost. I am realizing now that this new style of following one's team, does not seem to acknowledge that anything was lost. So be it. The support, the gumption, the spine if you will in fans has morphed into a thing now called, "truth", "reality", and a getting rid of (blank) colored glasses. Yes....... it is absolutely true that those new attitudes and views are just as legitimate as mine or the view of anyone else. But it is also absolutely true that those who see that view, may have lost something extremely important, and they really do not even know what was lost. What was absolute exhilaration for me in 2006, when we won the SB, seemed to be more of a relief for many of the new fans, as if they had expected it for so long that "Thank god we finally won the SB" was the feeling. For me it was a triumphant achievement after 36 years of believing. The joy was indescribable, and was the antithesis of relief......it was belief,  meeting accomplishment.

But even as I type this (the word type bellies my old age), I feel like I'm shouting in the wind, and no one is listening. It is the bane of aging, you eventually sound like your father, and you swore you never would. ;)

Alas, I love the Colts, and I love to interact with others who follow my team, but I must also be real and say that a change in coming for me. I don't know when, but I still feel it, like a wind that I can't stop. my reality is that this experience, is so drastically altered by the emergence of this new style of fan, that it has really taken most of the fun out of why I interact in a Colts forum. I would not be surprised if my existence and commentary affects the enjoyment of those fans as well. Sometimes things just are.

When the change comes for me, I will miss the dry and subtle humor that appears in the unlikeliest of places....in between the posts. I guess that is really why I still take part in this. For now I'll just say thank you to those who follow this team in such a way that enhances my own experience. But for now, I have to get going to work...and we have one last game before the playoffs. This season, this moment, is rare. There are no expectations......just living the moment.

Horse, I loooove reading your posts!  I'd like to elaborate on a lot of the things I read but using a 7 inch tablet with a virtual keyboard really takes time and make one mistake, the whole message disappears!

  3. The fiancé surprised me with tickets to the Colts game Sunday, for my birthday, January 1st, so we can cheer on Chucks return!

Anyone else going to the game?

She got Club level seating, though I'm not sure what that means lol.

Yeppers!  I'm in section 128, never thought I'd like end zone seats until I heard the players talking stink across the line of scrimmage and I could hear the hits!  Now endzone is my favorite...at least when they're on that end of the field.....

  4. NOT the first game this year with Pagano on the sideline. He was there for the first 3.

Sorry, it was late and I didn't add "first game on the sidelines after his recovery."

I'm going to the game tomorrow, leave the house about 7am to get situated before the game.  It should be a real good one because everyone is going all out even though it's the last game of the year....momentum to the playoffs!

  5. The Colts play the Texans Sunday, the first game this year with Coach Pagano on the sidelines.

Of course a win to show how well his plans turned out would be great but if the Texans lose and the Patriots win, flip flop the bracket and the Pats have a bye for the wild card weekend....

I'd love to see a win and of course not playing to win is out of the question but I just hate the idea of helping New England with anything.......

  6. The 5th seed is locked up.

I say play the starters for a half to keep momentum, but then hand over the reigns to Chandler Harnish and company. I want to see Mario Harvey get some burn at OLB, and Chapman get some snaps at NT as well.

What does everyone think? Rest the starters or not?

If the Colts beat Houston and New England beats Miami that would move the Pats up to the #2 seed and the bye.  Houston can't afford to lose the bye so I have a feeling both teams will play for the win....and I'm gonna be there watching the Colts destroy the Texans in front of the Coach who will get to see the fruit of his labor.

    No gimmes this year, Chuckstrong!

  7. With KC setting the record for run yardage today it's pretty clear the defense might have a few needs to fill in next years draft and free agent pool.

I'm ecstatic over how well the Colts did this year so lets reinforce the holes and really shine for the next decade!

  8. NFL TV Distribution Maps are up.   Bill MacAtee and Steve Tasker are announcing the Colts regular season road game at Kansas City, seen this Sunday in in Indianapolis on WISH CBS 8, live on HD.  :blueshoe:  :blueshoe:  :helmet:  :colts:  :coltslogo:

WXIN FOX 59 in Indianapolis is also televising the Vikings @ Texans, and Bears @ Cardinals NFL On FOX double header games also this Sunday, live on HD.  ;)

  9. Okay, I lied.  I did the math.  :)  This is right.  Our earlier strength of victory calculations were a bit off.  In SOV, 7 wins would have to be made up in the final two weeks for the Colts to not make it.  With 18 opponents playing, it's not impossible, but four are common, so it's highly, highly unlikely.  Something similar to this scenario would have to happen.

Win or lose, the Colts are already in.

Then why does nfl.com and espn say the Colts need another win to get in?

Not arguing your math but the major outlets aren't saying it yet.

  10. I think he should actually thank Irsay that he got to choose his team at this stage of his career in order to prolong it. His quick release was going to compensate for only a bit of the O-line's deficiencies.

I'm thinking that is the argument Jim Irsay used to convince Peyton to smile when he announced the decision to part ways.  Another team would give him a better chance for a ring sooner....but who REALLY knew Andrew Luck would be this good, this quickly.

    I certainly didn't

  11. Are they underrated?  No, injuries hurt them early but like the Patriots they seem to hit their stride in time for the playoffs.

But who will win the NFC, I think the Niners made that pretty clear last night--and next year they'll be even better.

  12. lol what? The Broncos made it to the divisional round of the playoffs last year with TIM TEBOW at Quarterback.. he completed 2 passes one game and they still won! For people to suggest that Manning went to a mediocre team and turned it around is LUDICROUS! They were a playoff caliber team and they were just missing a traditional style, good quarterback. Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, Tom Brady, Eli Manning... Those are just a few of the QBs that could have gone to the Broncos this year and performed well.

Also, when talking about the MVP, past injuries and things like that are irrelevant, this isnt a Walt Disney movie we're talking about, its the NFL MVP and nobody is playing better than Brady is right now.

If 8-8 isn't mediocre what is? They were an also ran, medium level team without a first quality quarterback but I won't argue other qbs could have performed well because they would. They just would have taken a lot longer to get to the level Manning has them playing at now....but the point is moot as no one will ever know for sure. Just my opinion.
