I'd love to have a stud WR, but I think the QB and coach need to show some willingness to use the WRs with any kind of consistency. Richardson is missing some opportunities, the pass pro isn't great, and Steichen is really scheming everything up right now. Everyone likes to scream about "SEPARATION!!!" but I don't see us asking a lot out of our WRs so far. That's based on a limited viewing of some coaches film.

I'm also in a weird place with Pittman. I think he's a great player to have on a team like ours, and I mostly want to keep him. But I'm thrilled about what I think his price tag will be. I'd also be open to letting him walk if it meant bringing in a game changer, but I don't really think that's on the table. We're not breaking the bank for anyone this year, and it's hard to see Ballard spending a high first on a receiver. Although the rumors are he wanted a big WR in return for JT, so maybe I'm wrong...

There's also the mystery about Alec Pierce (I think it's scheme, but also some lack of focus/intensity on his part). And I think we should carve out a bigger role for McKenzie, he always seems to be making a defender miss, as long as he catches the ball first...

Regarding Pittman, I feel the same.  I just want a guy who consistently gets open, and catches everything, and can stretch the field.  I will say Pittman did get robbed of a flag in the endzone.  That facemask was terrible.

Regarding Pierce, I don't see a separation issue with him.  He needs to be consistent though.  I'm looking forward to some deep balls to him down the field.  Just in the plays I saw from the JT Sullivan QB breakdown, he was getting open.   Plays just weren't designed to go to him.

It was ARs pocket awareness, and passing that caught the team back up. Granted the first TD was a designed run, he also passed for everything else. I don’t have a problem with designed runs, or scrambling. The thing I love, is AR looks to pass first before running, and did a good job of it vs the rams. He doesn’t just start running when his first read isn’t there, he stays behind the line of scrimmage for as long as he can in order to make a throw.

most of these running QBs are afraid to rely on their arm, and as of week 4, AR is not, and that’s a great sign that he trusts his passing ability. Being so young I expect big improvements in his accuracy over the course of his next 2 off seasons, where he will put most of his work in to become more accurate. He’s grown a lot during the first portion of the season, but where you make big improvements is the off season.

I felt like in the first half, AR was running more, and didn't want to pass it down field.  2nd half though, he really opened up his passing, and he looked great doing it!

Pierce could get traded tomorrow and that wouldn’t make him a bust.    It would simply mean he’s no longer a good fit in the system Steichen runs.   You toss around the word bust way way too easily.

The NFL world where a rookie WR catches 41 passes for 594 yards, a 14.5 average is a bust simply doesn’t exist.  Period.   That’s Pierce’s numbers for his rookie year. There isn’t a “yah but” response for that.

Pierce isn’t getting enough looks because the Colts are running plays to get the ball out of AR’s hand as soon as possible.   The Colts have to do more to get him involved.  Wayne wasn’t saying anything bad about Pierce, that’s just the way your mind works.  Remember you freely admitted you hated the Pierce pick the night of the draft.   And you weren’t even talking to me.

Oh, and Jack Doyle SUCKS?    You seriously believe that?    Hey, you’re entitled to any opinion you want, but I’d be embarrassed to admit that publicly.  That’s a fans viewpoint, nothing more.   Sorry.

This past game, in the second half, is where they actually opened up the playbook, and one of those big plays was to Pierce, on one of his two targets.  He'll get more opportunities to "bust" or shine, in the upcoming games.  Like the other poster said, we all have opinions.  I'm in the opinion of he's still growing, has been a bit disappointing in some aspects of making tough catches, but will continue to grow, and can still make big plays down field.

Good news on Taylor, but Jelani remaining on IR is very worrisome. He has had that hamstring injury for months now.

With Kwity, he'll be a loss but Dayo had arguably his best game for the Colts yesterday. Not worried about the LDE position this weekend, actually having a 6'5, 280 pound edge might be a good thing against Henry.

I think Henry gets lots of good runs up the middle. Hopefully Buckner and big Grove are good to go.

I really like AR. He still has far to go, but this game against the Rams had his playmaking ability on full display.

Raimann is our franchise LT. He’s been our best and most consistent lineman through week 4 (well 3, but you know..). Nelson keeps dealing with injuries and it’s kept him from being great.

Kelly has been good, but as per usual keeps getting injured.
Fries is a weak link and Smith has been really disappointing so far.

Our WRs are disappointing. Some of it is how AR is being told to play. Some of it is AR’s accuracy. But, they’re being paid to make the tough catches, not just the easy ones - they NEED to make the tough catches. They leave so many yards on the field.

Our TEs need to be a bigger part of the offense. Ogletree has done nothing but make plays - give him more chances.

Moss is what we needed. I hope him and JT will bring even more juice.

I like our Dline is great when it’s healthy.

Our LBs have been hugely disappointing in coverage and tackles these past couple of weeks.

Our secondary is young, but I expected more from Blackmon at this stage. It’s too early to judge our CBs, but our safties aren’t good enough in my opinion.

I agree Ogletree has been good.  Feed the man.  Let him eat!!

    They are better than expected.

Richardson, Moss, the oline, and the pass rush have played better than I thought they would.

Pittman and Downs both look good.  Pierce has yet show signs of improvement for a second year player.  The Colts have nothing at WR if something happens to Pittman and Downs.

The tightends have been really good.  Olgetree has been a better blocker than I expected.

The DTs are really good.  The defense depends on the front four playing well and that depends on Buckner.

The linebackers are really good even if Shaq isn’t where we want him to be yet.

The secondary is having ups and downs outside of Moore but that’s to be expected with the young guys.  Unfortunately I think they are about to get even younger with Flowers injury which is unfortunate because I thought Flowers had quietly been playing really well.

Special teams seems to have taken a step back as a whole.  Rigo is still working back from his own injury.  Gay is good.  Coverage isn’t as strong.  The return game is non existent.

Coaching is a work in progress.  Shane is very much a rookie coach who makes a lot of rookie mistakes and is maybe just a little too aggressive.  The coordinators have been good for the most part.  Lots of creativity on offense and Gus’s defenses have found ways to get pressure and hide the secondary for the most part.

A lot of people thought this was a five win max team.  They are 2-2 at the first quarter mark which I think is exceed most people’s expectations.  They aren’t a Super Bowl contender but they can contend for this division based on how they are playing so I’d say a little a head of schedule since most thought they would be fighting for another top 10 draft pick this year

I'll add if Richardson continues to play like the 2nd 1/2 QB we saw yesterday, we will continue to surprise people.  He made some really great throws out there.  I like him on roll outs and throwing on the move.  He seems (by my eye test) to be a better passer on the move rather than just sitting in the pocket.  Or maybe those are just the more exciting plays.

not debating or making an argument.... NE has been a bottom third team since Brady left... A damning statement that we loss to them last year.

The Colts Franchise is looking up!

    Go :coltslogo:

My point was it was exciting game to watch us win.  Taylor hit that hole,  and it was amazing to me.  And yes, go Colts!  AR is fun to watch, and hopefully Taylor contributes going forward!

We have our LT. So thank goodness that is fixed.  We have some big holes on defense so if we can get a corner that is worthy of a first that would be great. Or even a safety.

He should of been the 3tech to start the game.

Was he drafted to replace Buckner eventually?

People were complaining about him too (before today).  I think he has a great year this year and takes advantage of his snaps.

Always excuses for Pierce.  At some point, good WRs start making those catches consistently.

While I dont disagree with that statement, I'm not giving up on him.  Yet.  He only had two targets this game, and the one catch was beautiful, but I don't see the recognition for that....

He needs to start valuing the position and realize that this isn't the 80s and 90s anymore.  The rules have made it a passing league, and having good WRs is paramount to having a good team.

Truth is, Ballard just got his QB.... as long as it has taken.  The next few years will be telling, but I believe Raimann pans out at LT, and we can get that WR.

Yeah, some people are projecting MHJ as #2, and it doesn't look like we will be THAT bad.  MPJ and AP didn't do much today.  TEs were solid.  I disagree that our WRs weren't bad.  They caught a total of 5 balls between all of them. 5 catches total between all of our WRs. I know everyone harps on him, but another missed catch by Pierce.  Yes, he got hit, but it's always something with him every week.  The ball wasn't thrown perfectly.  He got hit.  The DB made a play.  He did have a good catch today, but I'm not impressed with his overall body of work.  Minimal catches, minimal yards, and dropped balls. You cringe if there's a DB anywhere near him when he's targeted, because he usually doesn't come down with the catch.  He was supposed to be the big body that would complement MPJ as a solid #2.  As far as MPJ today, he's been good this season and everyone has a game where they don't have many catches.

Re: Pierce, as much as I defend him, I will say my expectatuons for him ARE to be that 50/50 ball receiver, with great hands, but I'm not seeing that so far.  I'm not giving up yet though.  Today was the first day I saw Steichen open up the playbook a little bit, and he had an excellent down field grab, with his arm held back for 5 yards.
