Yep, I acknowledged that when I wrote:
Passing for long yardage is nice but the probability of success is less and if the pass is not caught, it stops the clock.
Moves the chains is not clock management necessarily, but ok.

This is technically his first season as well great pick by Ballard.
I love Ogletree! He deserves more looks.

Many of the young offensive minds do not seem to value the run game much, but the passing-dominated offense puts pressure on the defense and special teams. Good teams can use the run game and short passing game to get first downs and move the chains. That helps the defense to rest and takes time off the clock. Nowadays, some teams are so enamored with passing that they abandon the run game altogether even when the situation calls for it (when taking time off the clock is most important). These offenses often go three and out, putting the defense back on the field rather than giving them a break.
I don't like the power running game or the passing-dominated game. I like a balance of passing and running.
I agree with your last statement. However, the pass game can be used like the run for clock management purposes.

And now the trade deadline is presenting the Colts with an opportunity to finally secure one of these young fast edge rushers that are reportedly being made available. They usually go in the top ten. If Ballard really wants one Tuesdays deadline might finally give him a chance to get one.
Who is available?

Has a tendency to whiff on the QB when chasing them down, takes bad angles, Needs some consistency for good play. Seems average to me. May develop, but sucks since he was a 2nd round pick who Ballard toted was a first rounder.

Frustration. Many posters here were right.

I'm glad to see Nelson has a backup. So many games I've seen him listed without one.
-
I said good because he's still new and is making some mistakes. That said, scoring over 20+ in every game and putting 38 on Cleveland was impressive. Also, we've been in every game. I hope him and AR can lead us to SB, but we gotta make the playoffs first. If we do that without AR, I'd say he is a wizard. Also gotta cleanup the penalties.

That drop near the goaline for a sure TD, although a little behind, should have been caught. He needs to make the most of his targets.

Gus needed to blitz more on the last drive. Speed and Moore have been so good blitzing. Leonard even almost had a sack today.
I feel like we blitzed a lot on 2nd down, which was working, then we gave up some plays on 3rd down. Would have liked to seen more blitzes on 3rd down.

At this point Dayo is starting to look better then Paye when it comes to rushing the passer.
Except when he whiffs the QB. He's done it multiple games.

Or the two guys have you assigned to do it you know make an effort to do it. The effort on that strip sack in the endzone was ridiculous. With that Shane made the same mistake in the Ravens game that got a safety, he called a slow developing play and counted on the protection to hold up. This isn’t Madden throwing out of your own endzone is not the time to take a shot down the field.
He did run it when we were backed up and got us to 3rd and 6 near the end of the game, but we ended up punting.

Positives:
Offense put up 38 points in the number one defense in the NFL.
Taylor looks to be regaining his form.
Kenny Moore played a great game.
the return of down the field passes in the Colts offense.
Negatives:
you can’t turn the ball over four times and have a blocked field goal and win.Questionable calls aside the Colts remain way too undisciplined and commit way too many penalties
The play calling at the end of the half that gave the ball back to the Browns that let them get a cheap three that ended up being the difference in the game.
Way too much cushion on the WRs in crunch time, stop me if you’ve heard that one before.
Missed Grover on that TD play at the end.
But I thought we played press man... lol...that cushion makes me cringe....Brents going out may have had something to do with it.

Play action pass!!! We need it here.

Pitt has to make that catch if he wants to be WR1. They were saying it on the radio, but that could be the game right there. Gotta make the plays.
Should have been to Downs or Pierce. They've earned it this game.

I feel like we are the only team in the league that doesnt run the ball when we are backed up near the endzone. I don't understand why that is.
