Pass blocking was bad in 2021, but Wentz's play can still be evaluated independently of the OL. If anyone wants to give him a slight break because of the bad OL play, that's fine, but we watched him do his job poorly as well.

The Deon Jackson experiment has a really small sample size so far. Not ready to make a declaration on that either way so far.

I think Deon Jackson fumbling twice in the same game, in light of the JT situation, amplifies the mistakes.  I have seen him play well, so I agree, need to see more play from him.  I'm chalking the first game up to nerves and pressure.  Let's see how he responds, when given the chance.

D’Andre Swift’s performance underscores the reluctance of teams to pay running backs

    Mike Florio

Some will say that Thursday night’s 175 rushing yards on 28 carries from D’Andre Swift proves the value of running backs. Actually, it proves the opposite.

It shows that a team can put together an effective running game without paying a lot of money to any one running back. Because there are plenty of running backs who can move the chains and gain yard, especially with the kind of holes the Eagles’ offensive line was creating on Thursday night...

Key words here, offensive line creating the holes.  C'mon oline, we can do this!!

  3. Name some calls you'd like to see.

    1.  Supe mentioned this in another thread,  and I was thinking this when I was at the game. Let's have some roll out passes/ naked bootlegs.  I was thinking with Downs.

    2.  Runs left or right with pulling Guards.

    3. Option sweep with Downs or Pierce.  I think that could work pretty well.

    Thoughts?

I watched him pretty close. He held his edge well, i thought he was solid. His LT counterpart graded lower than Kelly.

This while the rest of our front whooped on them good.

Yeah, his play might not have shown up on the stat sheet, but he held his edge and allowed others to make plays I believe.

everyone on the board been saying our line is decent according to pff

ranks 10th in run 15th in pass pro

but the eye test didn't look too hot to me, i mean better than last year but is that saying much?

Its game one.  I suspect our line will start gelling 3-4 games in.  Also having to adjust to the RPO style must be very differnent with a fast QB.

Going to be interesting to see what the game plan is. Im fine with not getting a W but I do want to see if any adjustments or improvements happen.

Speaking to that, I'd be curious to see the in game adjustments that Steichen talks about as well.

Are they talking QB rushing yards via designed QB run plays or broken play scrambles?

Entirely two different types of rushing yards smooshed into one rushing yard stat.

That's  a good question, and a good point.  Not sure.

  8. Found this interesting "The main problem with their defense is stopping the run, but they did a good job of stopping QB runs, giving up just 296 QB rushing yards. Jalen Hurts, who had Steichen as his OC last year, had one of his worst rushing games against Houston in 2022. The same could be said for Justin Fields. During the 2023 season opener, Lamar Jackson had a mediocre performance against the Texans' defense." https://www.rotoballer.com/is-anthony-richardson-injured-or-healthy-for-week-2-fantasy-football-injury-update/1234140

I wonder how Steichen attacks Houston with the Colts.

WOW!  Lol. Maybe Braden played so bad because he was trying to block for Fries too lol

Good to see Top Raimann putting up a respectable grade.

idk, the eye test says to me the line looked bad but pff says outside of fries we were solid.  Idk what to make of it.  We played a tough defense so hopefully against a weak one with the Texans we’ll see something different.

Not sure about Houston's overall defense but Will Anderson is anything but weak.

I think the Colts definitely win that game with Taylor. He gets yards after contact and doesn’t fumble the ball often. Plus his ability to hit the home run makes you have to stack the box.

They were stacking the box, which makes me wonder why we didnt take more deep shots.

"if you have no run game". Best quote of the day and some in here think Taylor is replaceable by a bunch of average RB's. If Taylor plays today we probably win. Am I 100% certain, no, but likely especially up 4 in the 4th qtr. If Taylor just breaks 1 long for a TD, game over.

I didnt see many holes that even Taylor could run through.  Just wasnt a good run blocking day from what I could see.

Idk why everyone is impressed. AR was inaccurate(as expected) but all his passes were dump offs. Idk why that’s all his throws were. When he threw more then 10 yards all his balls are way to high. He had a dump off in the beginning of the game that was even super high luckily the te caught it. Decision making was good but I was expecting them to have him actually trying to throw down field more. Didn’t expect a win but that game was so winnable it hurlers even more knowing that. Does the line suck or is it just our rbs?

Everyone is blaming the backs but I didnt see many holes.  The fumbles were on the backs though.

They played well for 3.5 quarters. Pierce invisible today. Richardson is playing better than expected. The interception was more of a good play by the defender than a bad pass from Richardson. Biggest thing for him is to limit how often he throws high.

If he would of lobbed the pass (not sure if he can do that) I think that int. would have been a completion.

Very disappointed in Steichen. Up 21-17 with ball at midfield and huge momentum after fourth down stop and we call run by Jackson who stinks and run by a practice squad guy. Predictably 3rd and long. Have to punt, special teams collapse and Jax TD. Ballgame. Horrible play calling.

How long has Bubba been gone? Seems like our ST have sucked since he's been gone.   Rigo seemed to have a bad game imo.
