Cool quote game @JPPT1974. I never understood why that movie resonated with so many people or struck a chord with them anyway. Probably because I'm not the biggest Tom Cruise fan I guess. It's the whole Scientology thing I think.

BTW: Thanks for the "A Star Is Born" remake film recommendation as well starring Lady GaGa & Bradley Cooper. The trailer looks very compelling. Appreciate the heads up! I wanna see the new Freddie Mercury/Queen flick too called "Bohemian Rhapsody" since music is my bag or jam as it were.

Keep doing your thang JPPT. I like it!

I'm a little late to the party here, but yes, mothers deserve to be honored for all the headaches we put them through as kids. The day itself is commercialized like crazy today. Having said all that, I agree with the notion of recognition & props for moms everywhere both here & departed unfortunately.

I've gotta admit. I really do miss the quiet Beatle. Maybe it has to do with 'Something In The Way He Moves."

  17. Anybody going to watch the Oscars on Sunday? Really hope it is all about entertainment and nothing more or less than that.

    1. Jules

      Jules

Not watching. I am tired of the Oscars lately. Not to mention I have not seen any of the films this past year that are nominated. I love movies, but the awards stuff with Hollywood has lost some steam to me.

And yeah, I prefer it not be about politics but you know they won't hold back.

    2. Jules

      Jules

I will check out who won though when it's over. I still can't believe Johnny Depp did not get nominated a year ago for Black Mass. I mean what the hell? Thats when I lost interest. I often see some film or performance and it gets snubbed.

I know this year they will probably give most of the awards to "Manchester by the Sea" anyway.

    3. southwest1

      southwest1

      Hey there Jules,

No worries. I know the Oscars is a long ceremony that usually runs close to 4 hours on average. I don't think Hollywood was ready to embrace a MOB flick this yr, but I agree with you Johnny Depp gave a solid performance in "Black Mass."

I'm still miffed that "Captain Fantastic" walked away with no golden statues at all. Actor Viggo Mortensen gave a tremendous performance in that flick & he definitely got shafted by the Academy this February IMO. I still think of him as Strider from "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy, but I digress. haha

Nice chatting with you like always.

  18. Going to begin a day early in the pop culture quiz to kick off July. Here are a lyrics to a Dionne Warwick song....an oldie but goody! Guess the title!

You are right! Need to hear the A.F. version. But Dionne did it originally!

  19. Having Problems With the Pictures. But will let you in on a song and see if you can remember the words, it is to the Carpenters BTW

"Why Do Birds Suddenly Appear, Every time You are Near!" Name the song?!

"Why Do Birds Suddenly Appear, Every time You are Near!"

My guess would be this: You have the best tasting bird seed on the block or you sing like an angel like Snow White & all the wildlife likes to get serenaded by such a soothing & melodic voice.

What I meant by that is I would be coming in with a football player, and leaving with a sportscaster. My idea do not laugh, would be to spend a day with Al Michaels. haha

  21. I just turned my avatar to David Bowie! RIP!

      Hey JPPT,

Your new avatar is looking sharp. It's  so difficult to fathom that Bowie's brilliance is gone. He was so well spoken, well read, & smart.

Plus, the man could sing, play guitar, sax, & keyboard, compose elaborate lyrics, & he just had this aura of quiet confidence about him that I loved & yet he knew when to just listen & say nothing when the situation warranted it.

    3. JPPT1974

      JPPT1974

      He sure could indeed SW!

  22. IMHO, the 15-yard extra point will be a flop? What do you all think? The preseason will tell it all if it does.

    1. southwest1

I agree 100% JPPT. This new FG rule is dumb. Kickers can still miss field goals all the time & if something's not broke don't mess with it. :)
