pierce is way to slow every passing play he is getting tightly covered . no break away speed and is a average route runner , he is only good on deep shots

Nonetheless he had several matchup advantages on Desmond king and they never took the opportunity to get him the ball on those matchups.

  2. They Ran JT into the ground. I don’t understand why Moss did not get more touches to take the pressure off of JTs legs . JT clearly ended up getting hurt and it impacted his running ability. The play calling IMO was too damn passive. Once Houston committed to stopping the run Shane should’ve dialed up some play action plays to attack them. Instead they continued to run the ball leading to an absurd amount of 4th and 1s smh. Idk if the moment was too big for Minshew but he missed SEVERAL throws and it didn’t help that they didn’t give him the opportunity to get a groove going. Sorry I am going to blame coaching / playcalling on both sides of the ball for this loss.

So I was messing around on PFF and looked back at our draft grade and was reading our player write up and something stuck out to me. Ballard drafted guys that excel at pressman coverage. Jones was the only player that played more zone but Brents and Rush were much more man CB's. Why would you be drafting long term players to play for a DC that wont utilize their strengths? I know Ballard has said positive things about Bradley but there is no way he is super thrilled with him. He may give praise for the sacks, but as seeing we don't blitz, or scheme stunts or twist for our D-line then how much credit can Bradley really receive that much credit for it? Bradley's scheme really only works against inexperienced QB's, veteran QB's pick us a part. We dog on the personnel but Bradley is trying to force a square peg through a round hole here.

I didn't hate the decision to retain Bradley going into Steichen's first year so Shane could get his feet under him but moving forward I can see Shane being able to bring in who he wants. I think there is a massive probability that the team moves on this year and I feel Ballard has anticipated this move.

Actually to the contrary, If you watch much of Brent’s college tape he excels in zone. Kansas employed a 3-3-5 defense that had a lot of Zone Matching principles. Not entirely straight man coverage. I can’t speak too much on South Carolina.

In my opinion, Thomas is cool and definitely has overplayed his draft position, but he’s not it.  Keep Blackmon at SS and get a ball hawking FS.  Cross, Thomas, and Harrison will provide nice depth and time when we go with our 3 safety packages.

Im ok with the CBs we have.  Beginning of the year I thought we were doomed with the group, but they’ve actually been solid.  Brents, Jones, and Moore are a healthy trio.  We’re getting flowers back next year.  And maybe we can pick up another player in the draft or sign a cheap vet for depth.  Jones and Brents with a year of experience under their belt should improve.  Since both of our starters at CB are on rookie deals, we could use that money to maybe go and grab an impact player.

i know with our CBs, they’ve been assisted by our pass rush, but it seems we’ll be having the same d line next year, maybe even grab a FA like chase young.  So I think we can expect the same production from that group next year.

We don’t Know that Blackmon , Kenny, Pittman or Grover will be back. So I think it’s safe to say any of those 4 positions could be addressed. I can almost guarantee you that Safety is not high up on the list of positions to draft. They spent  a 5th round pick on Daniel Scott who they were really high on before his injury. If I had to bet on it. They try to resign Blackmon and if he walks they will slide Nick Cross in and let him get a crack at the starting position. They’re more than comfortable with Rod Thomas play so I don’t foresee him getting the boot anytime soon. He isn’t a world beater but the kid is solid and consistent. Scott will return to prove to be depth or compete for a shot at the starting role of Blackmon walks. I don’t see them spending a high value pick on the safety position tbh. They may draft a developmental guy in the later rounds.

Oh and btw Harrison was officially moved to LBer he is no longer considered a safety, or playing in that position. Not sure if you knew that.

What I’m hoping this team gets this upcoming offseason:

another WR1, every down pass rushing DE, FS, pass catching TE, stud LBer

Filling those spots, whether with a FA or draft pick is very doable.  Ballard has to get it done.  Spend the capital.

    we’re not that far.

Why FS and not a CB we have Blackmon who is playing lights out, Cross, Thomas and Daniel Scott coming back off IR. We don’t know what’s the deal with Kenny if he’s coming back. And even if he doe’s outside of him we lack proper depth.

What should have the defender done? Just let him catch the ball?  He turned and tried to lead with his shoulder. Unfortunately, that also leads to him not seeing his target. Considering Pittman was diving it was inevitable the hit was going to be high. Without playing touch football or banning the WR from diving that hit is going to happen unless the defender pulls up and lets him catch the ball. Frankly, that hit was Minshew’s fault. The game is not played in slow motion.  I hate seeing Pitt take that hit but I honestly ask what is the safety is supposed to do there?

He was diving , the hit almost immediately occurred while Pittman was on the ground. The defender had ZERO target area. Kazee could have let up and touched Pittman to rule him down. The hit was completely unnecessary.

Where do you see him?  With us as a backup?……another teams backup?……Another teams starter?…….the Colts starter? 😉

He’s put in some good tape , teams are sure to notice. I think he’ll be given a shot somewhere else to be the starter. I also do believe the colts have strong interest in bringing him back but I could easily see him going to a team like the Patriots, Steelers, Falcons and given a real shot at leading that team.

Yesterday, NFL.com reported Grover was back this week.    Does it happen tomorrow?

I’ve checked his team page here on the website.   He’s missed 6 weeks.   So what day this week does it become official?

    Anyone know for sure?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes he can return to the team this week.

Thats to be expected year 1. Especially against a guy like Evans. A lot of his growth will come from film work. Once he starts seeing the nuances in receivers releases, he’ll become more predictive and won’t be susceptible to every small movement.

Absolutely, it will only make him that much better moving forward. We will have a solid tandem in Brent’s and Jones.

He’s been absolutely phenomenal this year. Week 9 against the Panthers he had an 89.1 coverage grade. His first 150 snaps in coverage he had allowed less than 100 yards receiving, which at the time was tied with Marlon Humphrey. Add in how great he’s been at tackling and hitting and you have CB1. I think when Brent’s is healthy they’re like 1A and 1B. Brent’s is tad bit more athletic though. The draft class is turning into a steal for Ballard.

Come FA and draft, corners should be added for depth and competition. I don’t think we need a big signing or early draft pick.

He’s been very good thus far. I think he’s going to have a solid career. Savvy veterans are going to have their way with him tho. Mike Evans showed that.

If he played with this you would think he could finish the season.

I don’t foresee him missing time. I think he’s on a mission to prove why he was worthy of the contract. He will likely play as is with it being in a splint or heavily taped. If Herbert can play with a fractured finger , Taylor can man up.

One thing that jumped out to me from the Bucs win is that in the little we saw from them, both Will Mallory and Nick Cross looked good. Mallory always seems to catch the ball for a good gain when he’s in, and then he don’t see him on the field.

Cross is even stranger though. The team has struggled as a whole with tackling, but he comes in and makes a really great tackle and then is gone. He played 2 total defensive snaps.

I really don’t understand why these two players haven’t gotten more time. What is everyone’s thoughts? The situation with Cross is reminding me of Rodgers last year. Let the guy play free. His speed in the clip isn’t something any DB on the roster has except for Flowers.

They’ve already said the thing with Cross is being able to find packages where he fits on the field. As it stands you have Thomas and Blackmon starting so who is he going to come in for? As for Mallory it’s just a VERY crowded TE room. Hard to give everyone the ball when you have granson and MAC leading the way with no Ogletree.

    Speed getting more snaps hopefully.

He labeled it just a business.

no verbatim he said “Tough Business” which doesn’t elude to it being completely a move made by the Colts. I’m almost certain conversations were had internally between both Shaq and the organizational leadership.

  14. I don’t think they ever intended for Woods to come back and play this season. I almost think they strung his injury situation out with complete intent to keep him off the roster and from being from being cut. After this season MAC can be cut saving the team almost 5 million dollars. So Woods will return and likely have an active roster spot next season.

Not convinced he will actually be able to stay healthy and there are some qbs i like in the draft.  I wouldnt even tell AR to stop running either, its what makes him good.  He wouldnt have been a top 5 pick if he wasnt a great runner

If you aren’t convinced he will still healthy you want to move him to another position where he is sure to take far more punishing hits? That seems extremely counter productive.

We cant just pigeon hole a position in the draft now.  No telling where we will draft for one thing, could be top 5 or make playoffs

CB wont do this but if he were gone and it were up to me i would consider one of the good QBs if they are on the board.  They could trade or move AR to WR or RB to salvage some production out of him

Could also use a CB, WR, or edge

Lots of directions we could go and its way too soon to say what the best route will be when we are picking

That would be a terrible move. Why move him to another position if he plays QB? Why not trade back and gain draft capital or get a premier player at that pick? We have SEVERAL guys in expiring contracts, we don’t know if Pittman is returning, Moss or if they want to extend Kenny. I could be wrong but I do believe Grover is also do for another contract as well as Buckner. You have to think about drafting replacements and upgrades as well.

It’s good to be four and five, but looking at the teams we have played it’s not as great. Baltimore was a Quality win but what I can see is that we need a major upgrade at right guard and meet another solid cornerback and can we please get a number one receiver on this team, I hope the team keeps winning because it’s good for the Fanbase. I just hope that Ballard had the same ideas and not stick with the same wide receiver core.

As of right now the major need is in the secondary, we need another legitimate CB. I will admit that I was SUPER hard on fries initially. Although his play isn’t elite by any means he is currently serviceable.

Who has been the most valuable player so far this season? Moss started the season hot but has been splitting carries as of late but still has respectable stats. I believe both Pittman and Downs are on pace for 1k seasons. Franklin leads the team in tackles and is having a great year for the position. I’m torn between Buckner and Gay. Buckner has had a few really nice games where he has dominated. Overall though, I’m probably leaning towards Gay bc he has been nothing but consistent. I believe he has only missed two FGs and one of them was from 60+. He is perfect on extra points. Nice having the position locked down.

I’m gonna address it this way

Offense: I’m gonna say Pittman. Leading the team in Receiving Yards and touchdowns. He’s consistent and he’s getting those dirty yards.

Defense: Buckner. He’s leading the team in sacks has established a dominant interior presence even with the absence of Big Grover.

(Honorable mention Zaire, he’s a tackling machine and is setting the tone on defense he’s leading this defense right now. Also leading the NFL in tackles I believe he was on pace to set the NFL record for most tackles in a season).

But at some point you have to give your defense. Chance and we have no serviceable corners outside of jones and Kenny.

I agree. I just think that has to be the only logical explanation as to why they haven’t made a move yet. The entire world knows we are super thin at CB.
