Gruden trades away Mack and Cooper to have three picks in the 1st round.

Mayock selects Ferrell, Jacobs, and Abram.

Good moves?  Bad moves?  A wash?  Jury is out?

I just shook my head when they took Ferrell over Allen. Don't get me wrong, I believe Ferrell will be good, but I think Allen is going to have a better NFL career and that SOB is in our division haha

    I'd take Denver's 2nd and 3rd over Miami's 2nd and 3rd for sure. :)

Every year, good players drop out of Round 1, happens all the time!!! So, having more 2nd and 3rd rounders on Day 2 is a consistent luxury, IMO.

5 picks today would be fantastic

If it was last minute, we could have pressed for an extra 4th rounder, maybe it happened, maybe it did not.

I have a feeling we are not done trading down yet. We could very well get a 2nd and 3rd from a team wanting to move to No.34, I would not discount that.

By doing a fair trade, unlike last year's Jets trade where we heavily fleeced the Jets, he may have sent a signal that he is very amenable to another fair one.  But my gut tells me that after seeing Sweat, Abrams, Tillery go back-to-back-to-back, possibly 2 out of those 3 guys might be in his 8 guys he wanted, he probably stands pat now.

Denver is the only team I see that could use a future QB because we all know Flacco is a really short term situation. I would gladly take their 2nd and at least their 3rd, but I would ultimately try to get them to come off both 2nd's if they want Lock, whom Elway is rumored to be highly interested in.

Yay! We'll get a guy in the 40s instead that's half the player! Our dline will still be trash! You're a smart one.

I get it, you're an Iwish, I mean Irish fan, but overrating Tillery isn't necessary..

So you are saying there is no value in the first?? I think Ballard values quantity...especially in rd 2....but no doubt who was at 26 had more value than who will be there at 46.

They must believe whatever handful of guys they had rated around 26 some will be there at 34, 46 is a bonus. Valuation doesn't change much with having 34, but if 46 were our first real pick I would agree.

It is not little, IMO. We got used to an obscenely one-sided trade with the Jets, and we got about 900 plus points on the trade value chart in return for our 700. Such trades do not happen too often in the NFL.

I don't know man. I think when you want back into the first, you're going to have to over pay. I would have at least wanted their 3rd this year too..

Pick who tomorrow? Sweat, Abram? Yeah they're gone. And whoever else of any actual value that disintegrates between our first pick. Bad value all around. A future 2nd isn't that valuable, not enough to entirely leave the first round. Sweat is a stud, Abram a stud. Whatever, hopefully he nails these picks.

    That's you're opinion.. not mine

Regardless of the health issues I wasn't that intrigued with Sweat and Abram I was meh on

Traded out of the first round.

    I'm disappointed.

    There were corners and WRs

Why would we take them at 26 when we added picks AND just pick them tomorrow... come on man

  8. 2 minutes ago, oldunclemark said:

    WR or CB......

..but I dont understand why no one has taken any of either in round one

Because the value isn't there for either as has been shown so far although I wouldn't be surprised if Balt is the first to grab a WR.

Yep. IF IF he’s there at 34, I’d take him in a heartbeat. At 26? Not so sure. He’s got some character flags from his past as well. But the biggest concern for me is the ACL, you’re looking at likely a late 2020 or even 2021 debut

If he was healthy he was a top-10 pick. I don't think any team had character concerns with him considering the endorsements he's had from pretty much every coach/adult figure who's been around him. And you absolutely take him in the first if he's there due to the 5th year option.

I'm with you. I'm dropping. It's just a hassle trying to find something with all the channels I want in one package. Otherwise you end up with multiple programs and paying almost as much.

I have Hulu Live now, and it's fantastic especially since you get the 4 major local channels as well. I also have used Sling TV and it was excellent as well. With no contract, I'm kind of trying them all to see which one I like the best.

Well, the thought that either would be impactful despite their relatively low positional value was not shared by a large percentage of the forum, especially since we changed both defensive coverage and OL blocking philosophies since both were drafted.  I guess with the injuries we'll never truly know, so anybody can continue to find a basis for validating whichever opinion they had.  I'm happy, because they are steady players, which is more important than swinging for the all-pro fences, IMO.  Sometimes you just have to rely on luck to get that all pro ILB in the second round or that edge rusher in the 5th (Mathis).  Maybe Amani Hooker will be that guy, if we draft him.

If Lawrence can command a double team when he is in, or can push a guard into the QB on a three step pass play on a frequent basis then he becomes pretty impactful, IMO.  I'm certainly not advocating the Colts pick him as my first choice, I'm simply basing my guess on what players will likely be available, what roster holes have not yet been addressed, and what positions have young developmental players waiting to take over.

If we started the season with Hunt/Stewart and Autry/Lewis as our DTs, which is our current situation, it may be the worse group of DTs we've ever had to start any season that I can remember, including the Polian years.  If Wilkins is there at 26, maybe he should be the pick.

There is still Ridgeway and Ward as well. I still say Ward is going to be our starting 3T. I'm starting to warm up to Lawrence, and I agree with what some others have said, I think he needs to be in the 320's and not the 340's. I think he and Ward would be a heckuva tandem inside.

Pretty easy to see why CB says he isn't worried. If they don't reach that figure, the NFLPA just takes the money anyway.

Everything I've read on it doesn't imply there are any further penalties?

They'll meet their target pretty easily with the extensions of guys this year and next, 2 draft classes, and whatever FA they continue bringing in this year and next.

I think a 3T should be around 290-300. But with Lewis, he’s never played that heavy. You wonder how effective he’d be immediately as he learns to adjust to his new body. I really don’t get what they’re doing either. Seems like they’re almost avoiding drafting a traditional 3T for some weird reason.  Between Autry and Lewis you have two untraditional 3T’s. Those hybrid players like Bennett who can play inside and out are a dime a dozen. I trust Ballard, but I’ll admit that this situation is a little perplexing.

The heaviest he ever played at Ohio State was in the low 260's, and even at the weight he wasn't an elite athlete. Putting another 20'ish lbs on him has me really scratching my head. In my opinion, they need to keep him at 260'ish and prep him for taking over Sheard's position, which I think he could do extremely well. I really hope what they are planning with him works out, but I just don't see it.

Not sure why you think he is taking their spot. Ballard has said he wants 8-10 guys that he can rotate on the d line.

I said exactly that he wouldn't be. Re-read my comment. We are trying to put him in a slot we already have better talent at. On obvious 3rd and passing situations, I fully expect Ward/Hunt and Autry to be playing inside with Houston and Sheard outside. Lewis WILL NOT be inside on early run downs. I don't look for Houston to come out much either outside of 3rd and short where our "big" packages are needed, where Lewis would fill in like he did last year. Again, why are they so persistent to try and force this guy inside when they have 3 interior guys, minimum, who should be on the field before he is even considered. The only way I see him getting an exclusive role inside is if there are injuries, and then that bad situation just got worse.
