Were we relying on young, late round draft picks because that's what Ballard wanted to go into the season with?  Or was it due to the multiple injuries that occurred to the guys who would have otherwise been the starters?

Well their starters at the start of the year were Baker and Flowers before the injuries happened.  Both of whom were undrafted free agents so she does have a point.  However that point only goes so far because Jones the sixth round pick way out played Brents the second round pick.

As I’ve said before once you get in the league it doesn’t matter where you were drafted it matters how you play.

But if he was trolling, wouldn't he continue to engage and troll?

    Maybe it's just his catharsis.

It's also difficult to engage with people who have pitchforks at your head.

That’s what he does by posting the same thing four times.  That’s why people are sick of it and calling it what it is.  If you disagree with that so be it.  You are entitled to your opinion.

Right. Not liking AR doesn't necessarily mean he's trolling. It's a slippery slope to consider an unpopular opinion as trolling, as long they aren't spamming discussion threads with comments or the home page with a bunch of posts they created. If it's just a few posts/comments here and there, it's easy to just ignore and move on (which is always the best thing to do when it looks like trolling anyways). I also think some people use this forum (and others) like a soap box, not because they want to engage in discourse.

It’s not not liking AR that makes him a troll.  It’s only posting basically the same rant about four times now as Superman showed earlier in the thread and then not engaging in conversation with anyone or talking about anything else.

if he just didn’t like AR that would be fine.  People don’t like people who are part of the Colts all the time, I mean we have a Ballard grievance thread pinned to the top of the board for crying out loud.

It’s only posting one thing just to get people riled up and doing it multiple times with no intent of having a conversation about it or anything else for that matter.  That’s the very definition of trolling.

I try, I really do. In fairness, I’m running around all day with a very irregular sales schedule. So I have the chance to catch up on threads for minutes at a glance throughout the day.

By the time I get home from an appointment, I usually just try to catch up on all the threads. That isn’t a short task on here lmao  When I’m all caught up, I’m usually just too exhausted to actually say anything. Besides, there are some very intelligent and experienced minds on this forum. Oftentimes, I find that any contribution I would have made was already said by someone else.

So naturally, I fulfill my civic forum duty, and I react to the post. Plus, I’m adhd and forget lol.

Understandable.  Just know your voice is always welcomed.

Thank you for helping me understand. I appreciate it. I think that Lenny's posts are very offensive. His posts have a pattern and after reading a few of his posts, some of us can read the "latent content".  It is upsetting and disturbing. So, when someone likes his comments, I see that person as being on board with Lenny.

Yeah I am with you on that and as someone who spends way too much of his free time here I am familiar with Lenny’s history but I don’t think Patrick was.  I think all three of us agree Lenny’s posts are trolling as I spelled out in another post I just don’t think Patrick either saw or remembered his other posts and took this one at face value.  Like I said it happens on forums.  Glad we are all back on the same page :)

Kind sir, I am a loooooooonnngggg time lurker, rare poster. The “always here, but nobody knows it” type.

Reading your posts, I ran through a range of thoughts on how to proceed. To be clear, this entire post is genuine and not sarcastic.

I am electing not to engage with the specific content of your posts, as we have diverse view points that I don’t anticipate finding a ton of middle ground on. Initially, I had some strongly opinionated responses. I ran through scenarios of how I thought they would be received by you and the forum in my head. Then I had an epiphany. I sat back and thought to myself, “Golly, this is a very passionate Colts fan! He maintains the energy to post very consistently to advocate for his view point. I can’t even muster the energy for that myself most of the time.” And for that I salute you. I respect your passion tremendously.

Without risking a debate, I just want to acknowledge that many here do not believe Sam Ehlinger to be an NFL caliber QB. I’m asking you to just consider something. We all love the guy. He’s a nice guy with a good story out of Texas. Perhaps every GM in the NFL knows that he’s not an NFL quarterback. But he’s a good camp body who brings consistency with the playbook and familiarity with the system. I sort of think of him like I do Scott Tolzien, who I actually had a safety on in HS when he played for Fremd. I rooted for him when he played for the Colts, and I supported him when he played for other teams as a back up, but everybody knew he wasn’t an NFL quarterback… He didn’t need more playtime to confirm what most already knew. Sam Ehlinger is of the same ilk.

To present a counterpoint, Sam has been afforded a generous luxury of being on an NFL roster for more time than he probably should have. For context, he will make $1,055,000 in 2024 to go through the motions. He has severe limitations in his chosen profession, but his hard work and grit will earn him a salary that exceeds what 99.99% of us on this forum will make this year. Congrats to Sam. That is his superbowl, and he won!

But with all due respect, can we move past arguing over backup/ third string QB’s and moves that are already done, and start to enjoy the excitement of this actually being a year that our FO seems to be embracing as a contender season? This free agency period is starting to build some excitement for the first time in a little while! Can we create some type of vibe on the forum this off season that allows us all to enjoy ourselves for once? We deserve it lol.

I am stoked for what is to come. Regardless of how this season plays out, I am freaking excited to have the opportunity to be excited for the Colts in mid March for the first time in a long time! And I LOVE having the opportunity to look forward to a season again!

    Go ‘Shoe!

I think I speak for everyone here when I say rather we agree or not post more!

There is a huge difference between "not ready to say that he's going to pan out" and what Lenny Moore wrote. You liked his comment and you were "confused" by mine.

I don't know how anyone can like his post. It is so offensive.

I think you two are just missing each other.  I think Patrick’s point to liking the post was more to say hey I can understand why people have concerns about his health and I am not sure if he’s the guy more than it was meant as a support of Lenny.  So he felt like you were going after him for something that wasn’t really his point.

I THINK Patrick and me are on the same page.  We aren’t ready to crown Richardson yet and have concerns about his injury history but we pulling for him because he’s the Colts’ starter.  We agree with you that there is a huge difference in that stance and where Lenny is at.  I think we all agree Lenny’s post is laughable at best.

So I think we are all on the same page maybe just missed each others intent with posts and took things the wrong way.  Happens on message boards now and then.

I could be wrong but that’s my outside third person perspective on reading both your guys posts.

    Just depends what they are

    There is NLTBE and LTBE

Not likely to be earned vs likely to be earned.

So say for example if Flacco needs 3000yds to hit an incentive. He only had 1600yds last year, so that would be considered NLTBE.

Now if the incentive this year was 1500yds, it would be considered LTBE.

The big difference, NLTBE doesn't count against cap in current season, LTBE does, but if incentives aren't met, the team gets JT credited back the following year.

I was literally about to replay @w87r is your best bet on this question lol.

Certainly not the end of the world. But I really shouldn't be getting crucified for simply not being wild about the Flacco signing?

I object less to you not being excited about the signing, you are entitled to like or not like any signing you want.  It was more you thinking signing Flacco to mentor Richardson  was such a radical unprecedented idea even though it happens to just about every rookie QB in the NFL.

I would think he will eventually get another chance. Probably not with Indy, but with another team. He will be older and have more experience. May turn out to be a fine QB perhaps? He seems to have the character and moxxy? Lacking some in the physical areas

Maybe he will.  I have nothing against Sam.  If it works out for him good for him.  I just don’t think Sam not getting a chance to be the true number two is that big of a deal.

Right. Sam got thrown out there (by Irsay?) vs NE. the team was a mess. then Saturday came in and went back to Ryan.

Steichen come over and the new staff and Ballard wasn't confident enough in Sam to give him the job. So they paid Minshew, and again Sam never got a chance. Now Flacco is here and it's another repeat. Sam will be out of Indy, maybe this year?

I just would have liked to see him get a chance, with a good team, and all the starters playing. I'm not saying I'm convinced he would be good? But I also not convinced, he would'nt be

So?  There are thousands of players with stories similar to Sam.  Fair or not Sam got his chance vs the Commanders, Pats, and Texans and it wasn’t enough to make the Colts think he could be a number two.  Like they say when you get a chance in the NFL you have to take advantage of it because you might not get another.  Sam didn’t.  Maybe that’s unfair but that’s the NFL.

i don't see a reason to cut him, personally.

They’d have to add another QB first and I don’t think they will.  That’s just someone else to take snaps away from Richardson in camp and pre-season games because you have decide who to keep Sam or the other kid as the emergency QB.  They know Sam can do that role so they will probably just keep him at that.

Im just not ready to say that he’s going to pan out. Haven’t seen enough. I hope he does though.

I think that’s fine and is where I am at.  It’s not where the OP is,  he’s pretty much proclaiming Richardson the biggest bust in NFL history.  There is a gap the size of the Grand Canyon between not being sure if he will work out and being concerned about his injury history and proclaiming drafting him was the biggest mistake in franchise history.

This kind of makes me nervous as to what will come out about the Colts (if it’s true & serious). Our team needs a break from bad press for 2-3 years lol

I really don’t care about what the national media says about the Colts.  It just impacts fans.  I am sure in NFL circles they already know why he was suspended.  Guys talk even if they don’t talk publicly.

Do you know for sure that Flacco is some brilliant teacher of QBs? Is that something you heard? He has a special quality to work with young players? Like I said, perhaps that's not the type of person he is? Maybe he is a great teacher? Or maybe hes just a dumb jock?

Dear God dude you are just arguing to be right at this point.  NFL teams often pair a veteran QB with a young QB to teach them and not take away from their practice reps.  This is nothing new, it’s even a role Flacco has had before.  The Colts have also done this before having Mark Rypien and later Brock Huard here to back up Peyton early in his career followed by Matt Hasselbeck here to back up Luck early in his career.  It happens to just about every team in the league who has a young QB.

So knowing that and knowing that Ballard brought Minshew in last year part because he could help teach Richardson it’s reasonable to assume that’s what he’s looking for in a back up now.  Do you think Ballard just signed Flacco without knowing what kind of person he is and without telling him the role he would have here?  Do you think Flacco doesn’t know this?  Why else would Ballard sign Flacco?  To compete with Richardson for the starting job?  That’s just ridiculous.  They wanted a vet back up who won’t take reps from Richardson who can step in a pinch but also help develop Richardson.  If they just cared about the first two things they would have just gone with Sam as the backup.

So ask yourself what Flacco has that Sam doesn’t?  NFL experience that he can use to help mentor Richardson.  This is no different when someone starts at a new job and you pair them up with an experienced employee for a little while to try to pass on that experience.  It doesn’t mean that experienced employee is the greatest teacher on the planet (but odds are you have faith in them being able to teach or you wouldn’t have them doing it) it just means they have seen things the new kid hasn’t and can help them deal with those situations as they see them for the first time.

Again, this is nothing original or even that controversial.  It’s pretty much standard operating procedure for NFL teams with a young QB they are trying to bring along.
