  1. Bleacher Report is saying that the top 3 teams that are likely to deal for Freeney include the Titans, Bills, and Dolphins. Check out what this article is saying we should get in return for Freeney! I would be stoked!

    http://bleacherrepor...eney-trade-bate

What I would say is you make any of these trades. Saying that, if I as a fan am so giddy about that type of trade for the Colts, does it make any sence for the trading club to give up that high of a 1st round pick. Now maybe, just maybe you could trade the #8 or #10 pick and swap spots with our 2nd pick or something like that and I would actually think it would be a deal if we gave them Freeney + our 2nd round pick for the 8 or 10 pick. Might be a bit much IDK, but it would provide us with Luck and another really quality productive piece to the puzzle. Heck, might get Luck and either the Stanford Gaurd or tackle out of the deal. I hate to see all the dismantling of the team but you have started it, might as well complete the transformation. Good sign that DF has picked out an agent, bad news it is Condon, can't stand that group.

  2. I am only in for picking up a strong inner offensive lineman or a strong NT to use in the 3-4. Everything else is wasting money on older guys while waiting on Luck to mature into the NFL IMO. There are a lot of WR's out on this market to get at bargain prices. It is almost silly to pay 8 mil/yr on any wr that has age on him as he will fall off just in Lucks stride and then we have to get someone else for him to learn with. I stay firm in building up the oline to protect Luck and help that running game first and foremost and build up that defense in the draft. FTR, I would resign Garcon to a contract that averages 7 mil/yr, thats the going rate if you look through the NFL most recent contracts for wr's. 4 mil/yr is a pipe dream and 6 would be an excellent value.

  3. I wouldn't sign him without some kind of termination clause if he's not 100% full strength by the start of preseason IMO. Some team is going to feel really stupid if the give him a boatload of cash in terms of his contract and guaranteed money if he don't fully recover before the season.

I think Manning stated he would put in a no risk clause in his contract to a team wanting him. Only the Raiders would be stupid enough to sign him because his name is Manning without having some sense that he will be able to play the game at a high enough level using guaranteed money and I am not 100% certain of that since the gambler is dead now.

I'd be willing to bet he gets back to close to as good as he could have been before the injury. There are stories all about the media regarding how well he is and isn't passing. Maybe I'm being naive, but I don't think Peyton would carry on about how well he feels, and how he intends to be back on the field productive if he wasn't there or didn't think he can get there (that was a long sentence).

What I do believe is that PM is trying to will his way back and working as hard at it as he can to get back. The one person who I would believe in handing out a contract too without seeing him throw is PM because I honestly believe he is such a steward of the game that he would not tarnish his namesake and ask a team to sign him knowing he could not throw the ball at the NFL level. He is not a Corey Simon who knew he was damaged and milked the Colts out of oodles of cash knowing his playing days were over. I think that is why a lot of teams don't need to see PM throw, they trust his opinion of where he is in his NFL game plus I honestly believe that you will see a contract that will have risk protection built into in by whoever sees him and it will probably be at PM insistance. He is that kinda guy IMHO.

I agree with you I just posted in aother thread that I think Manning's health is still a real issue because of the following:

    1. Manning said himself he still has work to do in regards to his health. Manning would say this about his game needing more 3 years ago. Always striving to become perfect. If he was @99%, I think you would hear him saying this.

    2. If he was fine I think the Manning camp would have produced a better video than the very grainy four passes video that they produced. That tape was certainly an odd deal. I would think though that Manning would have more tape on himself in his rehab if ruth be told.

    3. He doesn't want passing a physical to be a part of his new contract with his new team. I have never seen this reported anywhere that he doesn't want to have to pass a physical. Maybe he did but I have never seen a link to any story on that, you got one?

    4. He wont throw for his new team before he signs with them (although the CBA could prevent that I am not sure what the rules are since he is no longer on a team.) Again, never saw an article stating he would not throw for anyone until after he signs. This has to be interpretation of articles but I never have seen a quote PM has said that.

    5. Clayton said Manning needs more time to keep getting healthy. Probably does

It could very well be he has more time and finishes his rehab and is just fine. However, it could be the rehab doesn't go the way he hopes. He might very well reach a point where the nerve in his arm just stops coming back, doctors have said you never know when, however, or if a nerve will come back. He could also suffer a set back we don't know. I do think if he can't play though it's going to take getting out on a field in training camp or a pre-season game to make him understand that.

If he can't play though Irsay is going to look like one of the smartest people in the NFL. He will have clearly made the right call and he'll be able to bring Peyton back this season to honor him and let him go out right for the fans which I think will do a lot to heal some of what has happened this past week.

I think it's 50/50 either way right now on Peyton's health. His neck is good to go but I think his arm has some real questions about it and no one knows those answers we just have to wait and see.

The neck is resolved and who knows what the nerve will do. It does appear from most reports though that he has better strength than he is given credit for right now. Will he have the stamina of a full game and a full season?

So what part of Manning saying that he "still has work to do" at his farewell press conference didn't you understand?

To me, "still has work to do" means just that and that he's not totally healthy.

Manning always says he has more work to do to improve this or that. Manning is a perfectionist and as far as the injury, I don't think anyone is disputing that PM has some way to go before he is 100% his old self. May never be and that is why he isn't a $35 mil dollar richer man from the Colts today.

  4. When Reggie signed his deal in 06 it made him the third highest paid receiver in the league behind Harrison and Moss. Don't know that was taking advantage

And he deserved that paycheck too as he was always on the field and played to his contract before and after. His 3rd ranking was quickly erased and moved well down the list later that season if my old memory serves me right. It certainly did feel like a better contract for the Colts than many others did. The Sanders contract was a terrible contract based on the history of injuries and playing time. The Contract of Simon was also set up bad knowing his issues of the past. Eh, we could beat this second guessing crap to death so on to the next Colts phase and good solid qaulity players!!

  5. As expressed by others in this forum, there is real anger at Grigson not trading the pick to Washington for those 3 first-rounders and the 2nd rounder.

This is a reasonable complaint, but consider this: when you look at the Colt's 2012 schedule, it's hard to find matchups in which they will be favored.

It is therefore likely that they will be in the running for a top-5 pick in 2013. We know that Matt Barkley and Landry Jones will be highly sought-after, and there may be another top prospect emerge in that draft. There will be QB-hungry teams willing to overpay then as well: Cleveland, Arizona, Seattle, Kansas City, etc. Meanwhile, we will have the highest-rated QB prospect in 14 years already on the squad. I would expect two No. 1's and a number 2 at minimum for the rights to Barkley. I'd rather have Luck and one less No. 1 than Bradford and one more No. 1.

As far as the upcoming draft is concerned, keep in mind that Grigson, unlike Polian, has a long history of scouting in all areas of the country for the Rams and Eagles, and has many local contacts among college coaches. This is an advantage for us.

If we end up with the rights to pick Barkley, our GM and coaches have done an extremely poor job in getting these young men prepared for a NFL season. I expect us to be competitive this season but not able to get over the hump in many games. I see us in the range of 4-6 wins this season not 0-3. Jags may still be worse than the COlts are against the league and do you expect Washington to be heads and shoulders above us? Will Cleveland, Tampa Bay or Minny be so much improved? If Miami doesn't land Manning (which I don't believe they will) do very well with a no name QB and a change in scheme from one that was successful to an unknown? We should not be picking 1st or 2nd or 3rd next draft IMHO. top 10 yep, but not top 3 which I would suspect that #1 will be Barkley, that will be a true blessing to have that pick if you have a future QB on your roster already.

  6. I'm not sure all of us are ready to buy into the Grigson era yet. I don't think most people took rebuilding to mean gutting the whole team. If the idea is to bring in a bunch of free agents, how many teams have tried that and failed misserably? If you are realling on as large a pool of rookies as it looks like we might...then we are into extended rebuiling, who know how long that may take. Here is my problem with the "grigs" love fest...the guy was director of college scouting from 2006 to 2010 and then director of player personnel for less than two years for the Eagles..as director of player personnel his teams posted records of 10-6 and 8-8. I think a lot of people are not sure if he isready for the job. Anybody can come in and cut players, none of these players were worth looking at keeping or trading or restructuring their contracts. It is starting to look like a ruderless ship...and It dosen't look like much of a plan at this point....just my two cents worth...it will be interesting to see where it all ends up in a few years...I am sure that teams like the Dolphins, Bills, Rams, or any of the teams that had a run of success at one point thought they would still be rebuilding years latter...time will tell...

I don't think the team is a rudderless ship, in fact, it appears they certainly have a full plan sketched out. You take on a new head coach and new defensive coordinator with new philosphies and you look at what doesn't fit in with that and cut bait now in a year that just isn't going to materialize into anything. You rebuild with youth and sprinkle in some vets at key positions (oline/Dline) for your new scheme. That seems like a plan to me. BTW, the Dolphins, Bills and many other teams didn't get to draft what many consider to be the best QB in a draft since Elway or Manning, thats high praise and extreme quality comparisons. Those teams had to reach for a QB and hoped they panned out (Redskins) which many did not. If Luck is what he is advertised, which I believe he will be, then this team is poised to come back to the top way faster than many other teams have. We all know what one really great QB can do for a mediocre team (see 2011 Colts record) and the team does have a few nice pieces in the mix from last years draft, Angerer, McCafe Powers and maybe Garcon (if signed). You add in a few solid picks in this draft, a few productive FA pick ups and next years draft, coupled with a hopefully dead on hit with Luck, and this team is primed for another long term run to the playoffs. If Griggs chooses wrong, he will stunt the teams growth but so far, he has done nothing to make me feel like he can't be successful. The easier thing would have been to keep the old guys around because they were at least known players and have produced in the past but the best thing is to restock the team, which he appears ready to do. Study this draft and FA class well Griggson!!

I don't think his blocking was any worse in 2011 than it's ever been. We just foolishly asked him to do things that he's never been good at (blocking some of the best pass rushers in the league one-on-one).

  7. It's fun being an armchair GM who gets to grade every decision in hindsight.

Not really hard to judge these contracts and some of the others from Polian quite frankly. I mean, how tough is it to negotiate paying a guy at the top of his position everytime a contract comes due. The only contract I feel Polian really took good advantage of was Reggie Waynes contract, everyone else seemed to get paid at the top of his position. Manning, Harrsion, Clark, Sanders, Hayden, Tarik, Diem (just paid too much not at the top) Bethea, Brackett, Simon on and on and on. Of the ones that should have been top paid would have been Manning, Harrison and Tarik the rest got just over paid to grossly over paid IMO. DOn't forget about 75 year old Kerry Collins windfall.

  8. With all the recent cuts, including their dead space taken into account, it seems the cap for 2012 is now at $99.5MM giving us about $19.5MM to spend.

What this also does is free up the 2013 cap. Thus far, I have 18 contracted players in 2013, accounting for about $35MM in cap space. Add Luck to that and we have 19 contracted players and $41.57MM, giving us lots of money to spend.

Going to be a lot of coin to spend 1 year after Mr Luck gets some good experience, the oline gets to play more and the defense learns how to play 3-4 hybrid. I think this is a solid model to use and I look forward to 1 really entertaining season and a get to know your new Indy Colts and then a quick start in 2013 into competitive football. By year 4, we should be able to compete for the big show again and maybe in year 3 if all goes smooth. Of course it could all just fall apart and never jell well but I prefer to take this whole change positively.

  9. No team has relied on their running backs to block as much as the Colts have. There's nothing wrong with that scheme, but there's more than one way to pass block. And you don't pay Addai the kind of money he's due in the next two seasons just because he's a really good blocker (which he is). He's, at best, a utility player, and he's getting paid like he's an every down back. And he can't stay healthy, having missed significant time in three of the last four seasons, so his pass blocking is irrelevant if he's not on the field.

I'm not an Addai basher, and never have been. But at this point, it makes no sense to keep paying him the money he's due.

You may be right and he may be cut. My point is that Addai is the best blocking RB on the team and he will make an excellent safety valve for Luck. Maybe the team will think about the blocking aspect differently since Luck has escape power. I don't care one way or the other if he stays or go but you cant fix it all this offseason so the things that Addai brings to the table may be enough to keep him on the roster this year.

  10. I didn't say Dallas couldn't be cut, clearly anyone can I just don't think he's going to be because at some point you have to have someone for Andrew Luck to play with. Reggie Wayne is all but gone. Garcon based on the last report I heard turned down a contract that was going to pay him seven million a year to stay here so it looks like he wants out. I am sorry I don't see us going into next season with big passing weapons being Collie and Tamme (if we resign him). I think Clark stays. The Colts are't going to cut everyone just so they can go on a spending sprey over the next few years. Yes they are going to cut some players but they aren't going to cut everyone and they aren't going to cut people to make more holes when they already have a tone to fill. You can't send a team out there next year with second year players, rookies and undrafted free agents or you are going to get Luck killed.

As for Brackett cutting him makes another hole the Colts have to fill and only frees up about a millon in cap space this season. The Colts could very well hang on to him and Clark and if both don't produce this year release them after this off-season. I don't think it makes much sense to release them this season unless they are just completely sure he's not going to work in the new defense. In the next couple of years it might very well make more sense.

I like Conner but do we know if Conner can play Inside linebacker? Also if we don't bring Freeney back or leave him at end wouldn't it make more sense to leave Conner at OLB? I know people seem to think Hughes can make the move to OLB and he might be able too but he is anything but a sure bet and Wheeler is a free agent. So we don't really have another OLB on the roster.

I think the team has to look at Brackett and think he is aging, won't fit our scheme next season (assuming they transition fully 3-4) and his cap # and real dollars # doesn't make sense. We are not going to the SB this season so cut bait this year and have room for Powers and other free agents next season after Luck has a year under his belt. You have to be able to plan ahead and I think Brackett is low hanging fruit. Bullitt is too and it's possible that Addai and Clark get looks but I think they leave the Offense mostly alone to allow Luck to have some play makers who have been there and done it. Freeney is a HUGE question mark with that cap# 19mil though. Jeez, can't imagine loosing Manning and Freeney in the same year though. Building maintanance people will have a real job peeling all those murals off the facade :)

  11. What does our running back have to do with blocking? Improve the offensive line, come up with some different schemes to keep your quarterback clean, and let him use his athleticism to stay out of trouble. But you don't pay a veteran running back $10 million over the next two seasons just because he's a good pass blocker. Smart money is on cutting Addai. We should have let him walk last season and used that money to sign Donte Whitner.

The RB position has everything to do with Luck coming in and having some protection back there and Addai protects better than most rb's in the league. He is a good pass catcher, can run if given a hole. Now, if the team can correct the oline this offseason then I would concede your point but you can't fix the whole dang thing in one offseason so chill, I didn't say Addai is all world but he is a safety valve and solid protector for Luck in his first season.

  12. Addai, Brackett and Bullitt - yes. Clark - no

With the RBC, Addai is being paid too much. Bullitt - too many injuries and we can do better. Brackett - paid too much for a role he would be only situationally used for, which would be pass D LB.

Clark - unless we draft TEs heavily, which we do not have many draft picks to focus on TE, should stay, especially with Tamme being a free agent.

So we bring in Luck and then cut our best blocking RB, yeah thats pretty smart cause Donald can block like an all star

  13. http://espn.go.com/n...nning-wednesday

"Manning preferred to remain with the Colts, one source said, but a source close to Irsay said the owner concluded that the major restructuring of the organization would include a change at quarterback, likely either former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck or former Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III."

Source that carries no name. I could have been that source and it would mean exactly the same thing. Maybe Manning wanted to stay but he wanted the same terms of his contract that was signed and Jim said if you are willing to sign a contract with another team with incentives to cover a possible relapse or inability to achieve that top notch level again, sign a new one with us. Perhaps Manning said no or said I will but you must not sign Luck to hedge your bet. You just have no idea what the details are and neither do I. Anyways, both sides will be better for the split as Peyton gets to pick his prime destination and the COlts get long term solutions (or best chance) at the QB spot. We don't have to struggle for years (Miami) searching for a QB replacement in Manning now. Timing sucks and thats what caught Indy and Manning. Irsay I am certain, certain that he always wanted Manning to retire a Colt and not have to be in this mess but sometimes you just have to do whats best longterm for the team and this appears to be it. If Manning could have played another 6 years, this would not have went down like this I almost could guarantee it. sources say :)

  14. I woke up still very ticked off. Some of us are just not 'it just business' thinking people. Everything i do, i do based on analyzation, emotion, and loyalty. The way Irsay handled this was wrong. I lost respect for him and my loyalty went to the man who stayed honest through it all, and thats Peyton. Thats just me. Say what you want. After Peyton had the courage to stand up there and take that and thank the fans while being very upset, if you like Manning the way some of us do, how could you expect us not to be upset and support Manning instead of Irsay. oooh.. still mad, better quit.

You are wrong about yourself as you may be thinking with your emotions and loyalty but you are not thinking analytically about the situation. You are being a fan, not a owner of a multimillion dollar business. Irsay is and did what he felt he had to do. Could have been better but so could everything on second try. Get over that part of it and move on with your sports life. You seem pretty ration in your post so thats cool to vent and be upset, it is natural. I am bummed about it but to say I am ticked or livid about it, nope, I understand that sports, as sad as it is, has become a bitter sweet business. Peyton was a once in a lifetime kinda player and we were all fortunate to have had him on our side for 14 years. I wish him well and look to Luck as the next great chapter in Colts land.

  15. Not upset at all. I think the team has prepared most rationale people to the fact of Manning moving on and a new era of football coming in. I honestly believe if Manning were at his normal 100% self and had been able to show this off, Irsay would have held on to him but just the fact that a top flight prospect is avail with our pick and the fact that Manning himself says he still has work to get back to his old self. There is a slight risk that Manning can't reach that point and then what? Your stuck in a bad contract with a QB who can't live up to his old self.

It sucks, it is part of life and everyone will have to get over the fact that Manning is no longer here and may very well perform well for some other team but it is also possible he will struggle too. Luck is coming in and they will have to make certain they give him the protection and tools to succeed and allow people to realize that while Peyton was a great player for this team and league, but there are other people in the world who can play the game pretty well too. Either way, I accept the decision and am going to lose no sleep what so ever over it even if Luck fails to live up to his hype.

  16. I am telling you all, we have some very good pieces on this team ready to bloom with Luck at the helm.

you have both offensive tackle spots with promising talent and a reasonable LG. Need to fix the RG and C spot which can be done, and must be done this year for the sake of Luck surviving. You still have Dallas Clark and we know he has been good in the previous years and Luck has grown accustomed to throwing to TE's. I think a priority has to be on either resigning Garcon (my preference) or signing a veteran WR on the market and pairing him with Austin Collie. You have an excellent PK and K for the special teams side. You have Powers, Bethea, Nevis, Mathis, Angerer, Freeney. The Pats got farther with a lot of no names playing fundamental defense and some really nice players on offense this past season and while I am not delusional enough to believe we will be in a SB this year, I do think we will be competitive in most games this next season with the additional draft picks this April. Everyone rebuilds at some point or another, it was overdue for us but we will be fine and if done right, and the coaching is as good as we had hoped for, it will be built quicker than in 3-4 years, 2 years should get us there IMO.

  17. It would be ironic if Peyton went to the same team that caused his injury in the first place.

What would be something for him to do is go to Washington, sign a 100 million dollar contract and then reveal he is unable to play and take all Synders money. After he gets home, he could send Snyder a little note that says thanks for having my career short and thanks for the guaranteed money, I will spend it wisely.

  18. I am a little skeptical over this clip. One would think that in a bigger brain trust area at Duke Univ, that someone could obtain a better video than this. It is not as though the field is enclosed and they do make telescoping lenses to video with so I just can't believe with our paparazzi that there is not better and quite frankly, more video of Manning throwing. Just seems odd to me that Manning and this huge stoy in the making doesn't have more vidoe clips availble given the fact he has been throwing in an outdoor arena. Seem odd to anyone else?

I do believe this is Manning but just simply find the whole void of secret filming absent but we can get video of Bard Pitt and Angelena Jolie making out on a private beach in the middle of nowhere. lol

  19. Well if he can't play, he can't play and he may just be an injury waiting to happen again, who knows. If he is cheap, you try to sign him and see if you can get anything out of him or cut him at camp. It is not like anyone is going to give anything but vet min for him.

  20. He talks about cutting Brackett and Bullitt (which I'm not totally against) because they are "injury prone" but says to keep Anthony Gonzalez (who is more injury prone than the other 2) if you can get him cheap. I understand Gonzo will cost less than the other 2 but injury prone is injury prone, all 3 should be let go.

Problem is, Gonzo was in the doghouse and beaten down by Polian/coaches and was said to be healthy last year. If he can breathe new life into his career at a reasonable rate and a new staff can bring back his confidence, there is no reason he can't succeed.

There is good reason to cut out Brackett and probably Bullitt because the 2 players do not fit the new change of scheme if tey are going to a 3-4 plus they are being paid pretty well and would be somewhere to start with cap savings for next season and real money saved for this year.

  21. I would really like to see Garcon stay but if he goes away for bigger money, I won't lose sleep over it and kick the dog. I do think they have to do something with Freeneys cap number, no doubt. I would guess that Brackett and maybe even Bullitt get the axe in understanding that it will cost as much in cap space this year but it saves a whole lot next year and do these guys fit into the hybrid scheme the new group wants to run? I do think that Wheeler could be a very solid player in a 3-4 role as well so I would try and get him into the fold for a reasonable modest contract, not minimum but not more than a few mil/yr either and see what he brings. I would almost think about going to Dallas and saying look, you are not playing at the top 3 TE role any longer and we need you to take a pay cut. If not, you may be forced to cut him or offer him up in a trade for a mid level draft trade. The key would be of course, can you get Tamme signed for a reasonable cost. One thing regardless, the 19 mil cap for Freeney is going to have to get resolved either way. His should be an easy extension of a contract to complete his career as a Colt.

  22. Two things

    1) When the Colts played in a snowstorm at Buffalo in the last regular season game of the 2009 season, was that a warm-weather locale?

    2) I don't think you have a real good idea of what makes the modern day athlete tick, especially the young ones. If the recently relocated NFL team in Syberia offered him the most cash, that is where Garcon would likely apply his trade.

Better be an indoor stadium in Siberia though rotflmao

  23. The player can't turn it down but he doesn't have to sign it which means he doesn't play for anyone until its signed and he doesn't get paid for the year. The problem though is the team has to account for that tag even if the player doesn't sign it so it kinda puts the team in a huge bind and it either forces the team to find a trading partner, take the tag off the table or the player signs it or a long term deal is made. And there is a minus 4000% that the Colts go after Wallace, he is going to want and most likely get, huge money. I also think if someone signs away a franchise player, they are obligated to give up 2 firsts but usually seems to get negotiated down by trading teams. I would guess that Pitt finds some way to hold onto him though.

  24. If Freeney and/or his agent is viewing 14million as his 2012 salary, then they are viewing it foolishly. There is no chance he's paid that, he will be in another uniform before he's paid 14 million this coming season.

He'll either agree to an extension

    or

    He'll be traded or released.

So I don't see comparing a new deal to 14 million this season a valid point because that 14 million is nothing but fiction at this point.

I agree he won't get 14 million for this season and a cap hit of 19 but to negotiate this down, you are going to have to give him something of the 14 spread out over a 3-4 year deal. I would think if we cut him, he would be able to get a deal worth 10 mil for a couple to three years anyways. so if we can do a 30mil/3 yr deal we end up giving him and additional 2 yr contract worth 8 mil each season on top of the 14 mil this 2012 season. Make his first year salary 3 mil+his bonus figured in and then increase the last 2 years base salary accordingly. Heck, if his wheels fall off next year, cut him in 2014 and eat the 4.67 bonus money and move on. It will be interesting to see these deals unfold soon. When does the Colts have to either cut Freeney or pay the 14 mil? is it the start of the football season in Aug?
