  1. Guy is tough to bring down. Every time he touches the ball he gains at least 6 or 7 yards after the catch. The only question marks are his health and character issues. We don't like to take guys with questionable character, but I could see us making an exception here if Polian likes him. He kinda reminds me of Calvin Johnson...and I would love to have Calvin Johnson on our team.

  2. Meh.

It's just Peyton Manning. If anyone's a system quarterback it's that guy. Look at all the weapons he has. Two first round running backs...how many quarterbacks can say they have that? Give Kerry Collins the keys to a ferrari and I bet he pulls off 12 wins and a division title. Maybe we'll actually win a playoff game with that megabeast under center. I mean, that guy beat out Vince "Dream Team" Young a couple years ago.

I wish I could change my user name to Kerry Collins > Peyton Manning. That Manning guy's just a bum with a gargantuan head. No wonder his neck is bothering him. If I had a noggin that size I'd have a neckache too.

No but seriously...I am bummed about this. I just hope he gets better so he can finish off his career with 4 more Super Bowl titles and 4 more MVPs. If we suck bad enough this year without him, he should get a few votes for MVP based on that alone.

  3. Nevis Island!!!

The corners. I cannot for the life of me figure out why Lacey is starting over both Tryon and Thomas. I would feel a lot better about our CBs if the depth chart listed them as Powers, Tryon, Thomas, then Lacey.

Sims will be starting early this season. He's only had one game to get his feet wet in our scheme, and to me he looked like a baller. Once he gets little more comfortable he will be light years ahead of Conner.

....and obviously the oline. That Linkencock guy...he's pretty good. If you like 6'5, 300 lb tackles who are physically lifted into the air by the defender and thrown into their own quarterback.

  4. It's time for a change....at the defensive back's coaching position. I was hoping to hear about that guy getting fired this offseason, but instead they get rid of Gene Huey, the guy who coached Edge. If there's one thing that everyone seems to be in unanimous agreement about, it's the stupidity that is giving up easy 7 yard slants on 3rd and 5. I understand that every kind of defense is going to have its flaws, but ours doesn't need to be that. I like most of our players. Powers and Tryon can both jam the WR at the line and run with anyone. If Tim Jennings can go to the Bears and be a starter, then I think anyone that was kept over him last year should be able to stick to their friggin man.

  5. It would be awesome to see us come out in a 3-4 once in a while next year. The opponents mind would be f***ed. Moala, Mookie/Nevis, and Freeney on the front, with Conner, Brackett, Angerer, and Mathis/Hughes/or Chick would be amazing. We did run a little 3-4 a couple years ago with Brock as a standup lineman, but it was pretty obvious he wasn't going to be dropping into a zone so it was moot. We should use some different defensive packages to confuse the offense.

heck, if Green Bay can drop BJ Raji into coverage and he have a pick six, I don't see why we can't have Mathis play some zone.

  6. You know...the Pats bringing in all these old, washed up, has beens, is really starting to become a joke. It's almost like BB is thinking, "hmmmm, how can I outsmart everyone else in the league?" I am really liking this offseason for them. I thought they sucked at the draft, and then they bring in Haynesworth and Ocho. Now they're looking at Housh and Sharper? I don't know who's running their front office now, but to me it seems like he's trying to look like that Pioli guy who went to KC. You can only bring in so many wiley old veterans and expect to be a powerhouse. It's good to keep some core veterans and look to younger guys to keep the status quo as a football team. Geez why don't they just sign Favre and try to convert him to pass rusher...they need someone to rush the passer this year so maybe they can bring him out of retirement for that.

I like how we've handled our offseason. We got some good players in the draft, and in free agency we got three, still young, former first round draft picks who have been playing in the wrong system but could be strong assets to our team. I know I'm just a fan, but I like to think I know what I'm talking about as far as pro football is concerned, and as a fan I'm really liking our new GM.

Chris Polian for Executive of the Year!!!

  7. I didn't rewatch the game and break down specific peoples' performance...but on the few plays I actually payed attention to Hughes, I seen him getting a ton of push...and it was against someone he would have yielded 50 plus pounds to. Granted I didn't pay a ton of attention to the game, cuz I had a little kid around that was annoying me. But I just don't see why in other threads people have been talking crap about the guy. Same with Pollak. I guess some people just love to hate on certain guys.

  8. He is a free agent. Played guard for the Steelers, and has a lot of girth to him. The Steelers have had a good run game, and he was obviously a big part of it. I'm not sold on our interior oline right now, so I think it would be smart to bring someone like him in. At the very least I would think he could beat out DeVan.

Anybody know if he's any good and worth looking into...not that our opinions matter anyway.

  9. QB Myself

    RB Addai

    WR Wayne, Garcon, Collie

    TE Clark, Eldridge

    LT Castonzo

    LG Ijalana

    C Saturday

    RG Pollak

    RT Linkenbach

    DE Freeney, Mathis

    DT Moala, Nevis

    OLB The Angry Man, Simms

    MLB Brackett

    CB Powers, Tryon

    SS Bullit

    FS Bethea

I foresee Ijalana getting the nod over DeVan at LG and Linkenbach usurping Diem at tackle. I wasn't much of a fan of DeVan so I might just be hoping for his benching, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Link did a pretty good job at RT last year when Diem went down. I like his athleticism and hopefully in the offseason he put on some more girth to get push against the stouter defensive ends. Freeney and Mathis get a lot of breathers so I look for Anderson and Foster to be the run down DEs. Moala will be tearing it up this year and from what I gather Nevis is gonna be a beast. If Tommie Harris can return to his pro bowl form he will obviously be the starter but we'll just have to wait and see. I don't think Mookie's gonna be getting much playing time unless there are injuries. The Angry Man will return to the SAM spot and I think Simms will be starting at WILL. If Adrian Peterson named him and Patrick Willis as his two most hated linebackers, I definitely see him beating out Conner for that spot...nothing against Conner cuz I really like him. I think the rest is pretty much self explanatory.

  10. I think that ESPN article might have been covering only post-lockout moves. The Chargers agreed to terms with Bob Sanders before the lockout.

Most Charger fans are getting excited about the guy after hearing about him beasting it up in practice. I'm tempering my enthusiasm based on his injury history, but if healthy he would add an aggressive dimension to the team not seen since Merriman was wreaking havoc. But Merriman's story is something of a cautionary tale, seeing how some guys never return to form after catastrophic, season-ending injuries.

He's beasting it up in practice? I'm surprised he's practicing at all. You guys might want to take a page out of our book and only make him practice once every couple weeks. You don't want to waste him. If you overwork him you won't even get the one defensive posession we got out of him last year.

One thing that really bugs me is when people say that he just plays the game harder than the other guys. To me that is an insult to everybody else on the field. He may play a different style of game than others, but all that means is he goes for the big hit rather than making the sure tackle. Since he hasn't played in the last few years, he's gonna have to change that style a little bit unless he wants to get fined for every tackle he makes. You can't make a tackle with your helmet anymore.

  11. Let me say first that I really thought we've had a decent offseason from a personnel perspective. I loved our draft and I thought that the signing of Ernie Simms and Tommie Harris were perfect for our team. The only complaint I have though, is that we didn't make any move to improve the interior of our offensive line. Basically we got Ben Ijalana in the second round...and he's a tackle. To me it looks like we're gonna see another season of DeVan, Saturday, and Pollak as our interior. I think Pollak is decent but DeVan sucks and Saturday is a million years old. Even Polian said last year that the interior was the biggest problem on the line. If so, why didn't he make a play for a solid day one starter to plug in at left guard? Why didn't we go after somebody to pave the way and take out one of the opponents DTs single handedly?

Guards are not very expensive. I'm not talking about scrubs like Andy Alleman, but there are always massive mauling guards that can move a DT at will. We are $15 million under the cap. I don't see a reason to sign any other position to improve the roster other than maybe a vet corner for depth. OGs are just as important as OTs and it is an obvious weak spot on our line. screw getting Randy Moss or Ronnie Brown...this team needs a fat guard.

  12. have we used our cap ? no!!!

Somehow I doubt signing a couple more scrubs that haven't been signed by anyone else will not make the difference that you may think it would. Yeah we may not be right against the cap, but the Raiders are 15 million over the cap....how's that working out for them?

No we did not sign Nnamdi. No we did not make a trade for Fatsworth. No we didn't sign Reggie Bush, Ronnie Brown, and god knows what other sub par running back that would want too much money to play a position that we'll get the same amount production out of Delone Carter from. I know people are obsessed with the signing of big names...but that doesn't always work out. In fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it rarely works out. How did Fatsworth work out with the Skins? The fact is it's about making smart personnel decisions. Signing Randy Moss would have made basically zero sense unless it was for vet minimum.

Signing Nnamdi would have bankrupt us and we couldn't sign other key players we need. I would love to have him as a cb in a Colts uniform but I don't think it would matter much. Our cb's are coached to allow a massive cushion on just about every play. Remember Tim Jennings? He was a favorite whipping boy of the fans but he turned out to be a pretty dayum good cb in Chicago. I don't know why the coaches tell the guys to play like this but they do. If you want to complain about that then by all means please do, I won't disagree with you there.

One thing I wouldn't have minded seeing us sign as a free agent though, would have been a massive mauling guard to help pave some holes in the run game. I don't know who...but I'm sure they were there and not all that expensive. It doesn't sound like our interior oline is making much noise in training camp.

  13. Well to be honest...I thought last year Eldridge was going to be the solution to our run game woes. He still needs to prove he can stay healthy. I've got my fingers crossed that Nevis can become the next Warren Sapp, but we just can't know until we see him in action. I do like what I'm hearing about him though, even if it is against our interior line.
