  1. What makes Jeff Saturday qualified to be an offensive coordinator?

He understands football pretty well, I'd say better than Christenson. I don't know, remember the Monday Night game with the mic'd up convo between Peyton and Jeff? Peyton keeps calling pass plays, Jeff tells him they need to run it more. Next drive they run it down the Rams throat. I'd say his knowledge of the playbook, his chemistry with Peyton, and the fact that he isn't named Clyde 'I can't make adjustments' Christenson, qualify him for a shot. Hey we gave Jim Caldwell a shot, why not give a consumate professional that helped win a Super Bowl a shot? I don't see why he would lack the ability to call plays.

  2. First things first, do a little spring cleaning if you catch my drift. Polian - gone, Caldwell - gone, Christenson - Gone, Rychelski - Gone, Mike Murphy - goes back to LB coach. Mike Zimmer becomes our new head coach, Jeff Saturday retires and comes in as our OC, and we either go with Jack Del Rio as DC or with a cheaper, lesser known, but no less quality guy. We also dump our strength and conditioning coaches because we have been the most injury plagued team the last 3 years.

Resign Mathis, Wayne, Garcon, Wheeler, and Anderson or Brayton. Sign Carl Nicks or Ben Grubbs, Courtland Finnegan/Brent Grimes/Lardarius Webb/or Brandon Carr, Paul Soliai or Aubreyo Franklin, and Michael Griffin or LaRon Landry. We need to build a stout team around Peyton so we can make a push for a couple SBs as he heads for retirement. Spare no expense.

Trade down the number 1 pick and draft RGIII or Barkley. Either of those guys can sit and learn the game from the sidelines and take over in 4 years. Address CB, OLB, OT, WR, and DE in the draft.

    Draft looks something like this

Rd 1. Robert Griffin III - QB Baylor (Hellzyeah, maybe even test out a Wildcat formation once in a while)

Rd 2. Chase Minnifield - CB Virginia (Shutdown corner)

Rd 2. Keith Tandy - CB West Virginia (I figure we get this extra pick in a trade, and he's a solid player)

Rd 3. AJ Jenkins - WR Illinois (Could see him replacing Wayne or at least being depth since Gonzo will be gone)

Rd 4. Derek Wolfe - DT/DE Cincinnati (Would be a strong run defender at DE and a good pass rusher at DT)

Rd 5. Alex Hurst - OT LSU (Hopefully Ijalana is healthy but he provides depth and is a good run blocker, could also play guard)

Rd 6. Nathan Stupar - OLB Penn State (This guy screams Colt OLB, fast, intelligent, cover guy, could play Sam or Will)

Rd 7. Anthony Miller - TE California (Might need another TE with our injury history)

    Championship

  3. Luck is surrounded by a hardcore o-line, a quality running game, and some pretty good wide receivers. Put him behind our oline so he has one and a half seconds to read a defense and he will look no better than Kerry Collin, Curtis Painter, and Dan Orlovsky. Only Peyton can take the lemons that we call an oline, and turn them into lemonade. All this hooplah about him being a 'can't miss prospect' is just that, hooplah. There is no such thing as a sure thing when it comes to the draft. I really like the Pats method of drafting, trade down, stockpile picks, increase your odds of hitting big.

Trade down, draft RGIII or Barkley, use the other picks to solidify the line, find a quality corner, and draft a Haloti Ngata type NT.

  4. Man, if Ed Reed and Bill Belicheck talk us up, it might give the FO more reason to keep the coaches.

I can hear Polian now, 'A lot of professionals around the league look at the team we've assembled, and they know we've got quality players, coaches, and game plans. There is nothing wrong with starting out the year 0-13. We got rid of the problem in Larry Coyer. It is a fait accompli that next year we will be back to our 12+ wins a year. I am God!!!!!!!!'

  5. I consider that another Polian fabrication. Yates was taken in the 5th round. Whats was he waiting for next year. I have come to the conclusion Polian is like a politican. You can tell he is lying because his lips are moving.

Yeah lol, how can you say you would have drafted Yates if you didn't take Ijalana. Ij was in the 2nd round, Yates was in the 5th. More Polianspeak.

I'd rather not have given up the Ijalana pick, or the Nevis pick, but Carter is just an average back and Yates may have proven more valuable.

  6. DT is the most important defensive position, but I almost feel like Nevis may be the next big thing there for us. So I'd probably have to go with a shutdown corner. This is only provided we put him in man coverage rather than just having him drop back into a weakass zone.

  7. The guy has coached some quality 4-3 defenses. I believe we have a lot of the right personnel, we just need a coach to put them in a scheme that isn't doomed to fail. He has been around a while, and he has an unrealized dream of being a head coach. I don't want to bring in Fisher, or Cowher, or Gruden. Let's bring in a guy who has had a lot of success as a Defensive Coordinator, and make him the new head coach.

Del Rio can be our DC. He's had some pretty good D's down in J-ville. I'd like Christenson gone too, mostly because I don't think Peyton likes him much, and he's proven to be pretty ineffective without Peyton. If Norv Turner gets fired I wouldn't object to bringing him in as OC. Say what you want about San Diego's deficiencies, but offensive production is not their biggest problem. I wouldn't want him as a head coach, but as OC I would love him.

I honestly don't care who we have as GM as long as it's not Bill Polian. I don't think he's bad at finding talent, I just don't like his hard-headedness and his inability to let coaches coach, and players play.

A combo of Mike Zimmer-head coach, Norv Turner-OC, Jack Del Rio-DC, and anyone not named Polian as GM, means quality team next year.

  8. You and others don't believe they have thought or tried in practice to change things up, I don't know what they have done. Since the Colts coaches know so much more then any Joe Fan here does, I am willing to go with them over Joe Fan in knowing what the Colt players can or can't do. The Colts coaches may not be the best, or that good, but they still have more knowledge and ability then anyone on this forum.

You are so thick dude. All Superman and myself are saying, is to change it up in the game. Play closer to the LOS in coverage. Knock the guys off their routes. Okay, maybe they've tried in practice. But practice rarely consists of 11 on 11. Practice is all about practicing routes, running drills, basic stuff. The fact of the matter is, they don't try what we're saying in the games. What reason do they have for not at least trying it? What we might lose a game? Big *' deal. We're 0-13!!!! You have to shake things up when your team can't win a single game.

You only further my belief that you are in fact Bill Polian with your lack of ability to understand this concept. When your team sucks, try something different. Did you miss 1st grade? Because that's one of life's first lessons. When you fail, time and time again, maybe you need to make an adjustment.

  9. And when said defenders get blown away because they can't play that style you will wine and complain.....Our defense is what it is this year, you can't change them to play a style they are not able to play.

How do you know they can't play that style, it hasn't even been tried?!?!?!?! As a coach you have to make adjustments when something isn't working. It is not hard to knock somebody off their route. You mess it up for one second and they have to readjust. It's Football 101. Our DEs are good enough to make plays if we don't allow the QB to play backyard catch with his receivers.

  10. It's 1 season. There is ZERO pattern of bad choices, it's one season. It's called over reacting fans. This idea that you can go from smart to dumb in 1 season is laughable...

Nobody is saying he went from smart to dumb in one season!!!!

He has been in a downward spiral for a while now. People have been talking about how soft the defense is for the past 5 years. Even the 14-0 start we had two years ago, our defense was pretty friggin' soft. Remember that Miami game??? 45 minutes to our 15 in the time of possession battle. Good defenses don't stay on the field for 45 minutes!!!

    Your defense is laughable.

  11. 1. Jim Caldwell, BP, and Clyde Christenson are gone

    2. Peytons contract is reworked

    3. Colts trade down in the draft with the Browns

    4. Colts draft Robert Griffin III

    5. Colts draft Dre Kirkpatrick- Corner, this team is in desperate need of a shutdown corner

    6. Bring in an aggressive minded defensive coordinator. Not someone that will put us in a 3-4 and blitz two or three LBs every play, but someone that plays man coverage rather than zone, and isn't afraid to bring Wheeler on a blitz.

    7. Jeff Saturday retires and stays on as the new Offensive Coordinator.

    8. Mike Zimmer - head coach

    9. Me - GM. I love football and GMing is such an inexact science I feel it's not as hard as they make it out to be. You're going to have misses, but you're also going to have hits. Even if you just used Mel Kiper's board you'd still get quality players, not that I would, but it just shows that picking players is mostly just a guessing game. I'd go for guys with a lot of work ethic, no notable injury history, and basically I'd just trust my gut feeling. The difference between me and Polian though, I would listen to other's ideas, would not hinder the defense, and I would have a better weekly radio show. I am officially throwing my hat in the ring for the soon to be vacant position of Colts President of Football Operations.

    ^^^^^^my perfect offseason

  12. How can you get pressure if the quarterback has an open receiver right after the snap? Just slow his delivery down, even half a second, and you'll improve the defense significantly.

Exactly. Apparently Polian/Caldwell/Mike Murphy don't realize this, but it's basically Football 101.

  13. It is next to impossible to get sacks when every team we plays just has the QB take a three step drop and complete a 10 slant or a 10 yard out. My son is a jv qb and just sits and laughs at the cushion we give and says he has never even seen a jv that runs D like that. Flat out a joke of a scheme.

I just don't get how people fail to see this.

It is not because of a lack of pressure, it is because of a lack of defending the receiver. These quarterbacks and receivers are playing catch against this scheme. I don't even believe it's the players' lack of ability, it's our coaches lack of a brain.

  14. You know, while watching the second half, I kinda felt like Bmore was just toying with our defense. It just seemed like they knew we were so inept offensively that they could do whatever they wanted. They really didn't try very many short easy completions in the second half. Those quick slants kill us, and offenses know they can slant us down the field whenever they need to. Bmore seemed to me like they were just testing out a different game plan.

  15. I want Caldwell gone, but not before the season ends. If we fire him now, and promote Christenson or Murphy, we'll just have another Yes man for Polian to pull the strings with.

In my heart of hearts, based on his Twittering, I feel Irsay is going to make some noise this offseason. If you look at all the things he's Twittered, about how all things will be considered after the season, and saying that we need to 'handle ourselves better', it just looks like things might not be going swimmingly in the FO. I see Polian, Caldwell, and Christenson gone. Murphy will go back to LB coach. Bring in Mike Zimmer as HC, Del Rio as DC, we'll have to look around for our new GM, and heck my grandma can call plays for the offense as long as Big P's back.

  16. I really doubt Sapp would want to take a pay cut from his cush studio gig, to spend the amount of time required to be a coach in NFL. He belongs in the booth as a talking head. Not saying he'd be a bad coach, but I just don't see him taking that job.

Sanders on the other hand I would love to have here as a coach. I agree that he might not be up to par as a DC, but he would make a good DB coach. Maybe teach our guys how to stick a man at the LOS, rather than giving up easy 10 yard catches every single play.

I hate to throw the Del Rio name out there, but he had a pretty stout defense in J-ville. Not sure if it was on him or the DC though.

But who are we kidding? The Tampa 2 works. Even if we bring in another DC, they will be employed by Lord Polian and will have their own defensive playbook thrown down the crapper.
