  1. You guys must not understand humor. I'm a Colts fan. In the photo Tom Terrific is wearing Ugg boots, a distinctly feminine fashion choice. Seeing as how he is the spokesman for Men's Uggs, it is in comical jest that my profile pic is of Tom Brady in women's uggs.

Seriously, why would a Pats fan go on a rant about the state of the Colts defense, and use such pronouns as 'our' defense?

Also why would my name be The Peytonator????

  2. Seriously. When I watch other defenses play, the corners are within 5 yards of the receiver before the snap. Our CBs are at least 7 yards off every single play. But you know what, that wouldn't be so bad, if at the snap they moved closer to the WR. Instead all they do is backpedal. Occasionally one will gain some balls and at least try to make a play on the ball, but it's obvious they are coached to just take a few steps back, let the WR make an easy catch for 7 yards, then make the tackle. This scheme relies on the hope that the WR drops the ball, or there's a fumbled snap, or by some ungodly occurance the ball gets tipped at the line and someone picks it off. The difference between a crap scheme like ours, and a good one like Baltimores, is that we hope something good happens, while Baltimore makes good things happen.

We have skilled players on our team. Tim Jennings was a castoff. A scrub. A roster casualty because everyone else was better than him. He was the Jacob Lacey of old. Now, he's a starter on the Bears, who by the way, play a Cover 2, and have been keeping themselves in games despite a completely anemic offense. While our offense sputters every posession, our defense should be able to do something. But they can't because they're playing in the worst scheme they could possibly play in.

It's pretty obvious that either Polian or Caldwell will die by this defensive scheme. I think it's Polian because when we promoted Caldwell, he seemed to be alright with moving away from the strictly Tampa 2 defensive scheme. He was the one that hired Coyer. If you ask me, Coyer got a raw deal. He was unable to use the players he wanted to, like Tryon, and was basically handcuffed into running the same bland, predictable scheme, every single play.

But you know what gripes me to know end. How Polian can defend this craptastic team he built by saying we've just had bad luck because of injuries. I even heard one of the commentators spew this garbage during the telecast. He said something about how we've got 17 guys on IR and 7 of them were starters. Apparently they don't do research they just parrot anything a God like Bill Polian says like it's fact. We have 3 starters on IR. I do not count Kerry Collins as a starter. The 3 starters would be Gary Brackett, Melvin Bullitt, and Jerraud Powers. Brackett's a good player but not the be-all-end-all of our defense. Melvin Bullitt is just an average safety, and David Caldwell/Joe Lefeged are not that much of a downgrade. Jerraud Powers just went to IR this week so you can't use him as an excuse.

I'm tired of Polian's excuses. In the past, when we were winning, he would use the ole 'can't use injuries as an excuse' card. Since we're 0-13, he needs something to defend himself. This needs to stop.

Jim Irsay, if you read the official Indianapolis Colts message board, do everyone a favor, and fire Bill Polian. Then fire Jim Caldwell and get somebody that does more than clap his hands and say 'Good job' when the offense goes 3-and-out. Then trade our number one draft pick for a plethora of picks. Draft someone like Barkley or Griffin so they can learn from the GOAT, all the while building a solid roster of guys that can shoulder some of the burden and not force Peyton Manning to carry the entire franchise on his back. I would sure like to see the GOAT get more than one SB in his career. Even though nobody else involved with the franchise, he at the very least does.

  3. Hey cmgww, the Pats taking a stab at perfection, and Belicheck keeping his foot on the gas does not show a lack of class. It shows that they care about achieving records. When I was a little kid, and I dreamed of being in the NFL, I didn't dream of being the long snapper, I didn't dream of being the #3 receiver, I didn't dream of being the leading special teams tackler of my team and winning a Super Bowl. I dreamt of being the all time greatest QB, winning 15 Super Bowls, going undefeated countless times. I wanted to be the best. When I play Madden, and my team is 14-0 and has homefield advantage, I don't rest my starters so they don't get injured. I keep my foot on the gas. When I play a crap team, and I'm winning 42-7, I don't pull out my starters for the fourth quarter. I know I'm equating real life to dreams from my youth and Madden, but the point remains the same. The Pats didn't take their foot off the pedal. The Packers will keep on keepin' on. The Indianapolis Polians on the other hand, lack balls. It's nobody's fault either except Polian. You could tell the players wanted to go for perfection.

Also the argument about how we might have lost players is ridiculous. Anytime you put a player out there he could get injured. Players get hurt in practice. Players get hurt moving furniture in their house. Injuries happen. We had the lead in the third quarter against the Jets, and we were really starting to gel offensively. There's only so many players on an active roster. We still had most of the starting o-line in there, I remember Collie and Garcon still playing. We could have left Peyton in and given him more conservative plays to run clock and put more points on the board, all the while not risking injury. Then say we win that game. We go to Buffalo and play the first half and have a 35-10 lead, then we put Mike Hart in and run the ball the rest of the game. We go 16-0. Playoffs roll around and who knows who we play. We probably still play Baltimore and win that one, then we play San Diego or whoever and I see no reason to say we don't beat them too. Plus since we don't play the Jets, Freeney might not get hurt in a garbage time play, and he's healthy for New Orleans. There is a whole butterfly effect of situations that never played out, and we could have easily run the table. 19-0!!!!

    But alas.......

    Go Packers!!!

  4. With the way this year has gone, will we have any prime time games next year???

The schedule makers always give the higher quality teams 5 or 6 prime timers, and the average ones get 2 or 3. The teams that lose 13+ a year hardly ever get prime time games, unless they're named the Cowboys. Since our down year is more the exception than the rule, I feel we should get at least 3 next year. Sunday and Monday Night Football are holidays for me when the Colts play. I hope we don't get the shaft next year.

  5. I don't think anything more needs to be said to dn. It is clear at this point he either is Bill Polian, or he's employed by Bill Polian.

The fact that anyone defends the General Manager of a team that is 0-12, is just a comedic situation alone. It's as funny as saying Jamarcus Russell is a good quarterback because he had good numbers in college. I don't see how anyone can defend Polian at this point. I actually feel bad for Caldwell now. I feel for all the coaches. I can't remember who said it, but the gist of it was, in football you can fire coaches but it doesn't mean the mess was their fault. I honestly feel Caldwell, Christenson, and now Mike Murphy, are all doing everything they can with this team of scrubs, and the schemes Bill Polian chooses to employ.

  6. really? this? sure this year's team is terrible...but do you think for one second the Colts wouldn't be a 8-9 win team right now with a healthy Manning? He changes the game entirely: He makes his offensive players better (see the dropoff in production across the board when Painter was playing), he keeps the D off the field with longer drives (the Colts are near dead last in time of possession this season)...They have an actual decent running game this year with some more beef on the line...Yes we all know there are holes in this team but don't think for one second Manning under center wouldn't change a lot of that. Just look at what DAN ORLOVSKY did to the Pats...granted their pass D is terrible but it was DAN ORLOVSKY. The FO has seen the need for changes and they will be coming. Polian has said as much himself. And you can bet Irsay will force it on them. He is no fool, and is the one that brought in Polian here in 1997...if he feels the FO isn't getting it done, changes will be made. If Manning is healthy, with a good draft and some FA pickups the Colts will be contenders in 2012

Ahhhh....you might as well save your breath. Some people fail to realize this is top to bottom, basically the same team that started out 14-0 two years ago, with a couple improvements. The only real subtraction is Hayden. Bullitt, if I recall, didn't even play the Super Bowl. We were starting Aaron Fransisco out there at SS for most of the year.

  7. Well with Lacey returning to his starting gig, and the fact that we're going even more conservative in our coverage, Brady might break the single game passing record. I'd like to see us get the upset, but if that happens, Polian won't stop about how spectacular a coach Caldwell is, and how he (Polian), built the team that beat the Mighty Patriots with Dan Orlovsky at QB.

  8. Funny this was started. Yesterday, in my extreme boredom, I made a Madden team comprised of 32 players all from different teams. Plus the token scrub backups that never play. It turned out like so....playing a 4-3.

    QB - Big P Money/Colts (Best Ever)

HB - LeSean McCoy/Eagles, Steven Jackson/Rams (Could also be fullback), DeAngelo Williams/Panthers

    WR - Larry Fitzgerald/Cardinals, Calvin Johnson/Lions, Mike Wallace/Steelers

    TE - Rob Gronkowski/Patriots, Jermichael Finley/Packers

    LT - Jake Long/Dolphins

    LG - Carl Nicks/Saints

    C - Eric Wood/Bills

    RG - Davin Joseph/Bucs

    RT - Eric Winston/Texans

    DE - Jared Allen/Vikings, Brian Orakpo/Redskins, Jason Pierre-Paul/Giants

    DT - Haloti Ngata/Ravens, Jay Ratliff/Cowboys, Brandon Mebane/Seahawks

    OLB - Manny Lawson/Bengals, Sean Weatherspoon/Falcons, D.J. Williams/Broncos

    MLB - Patrick Willis/49ers

    CB - Darrelle Revis/Jets, Courtland Finnegan/Titans, Stanford Routt/Raiders

FS - Eric Berry/Chiefs (He's on IR, but he's gonna be a top safety for years to come)

    SS - Major Wright/Bears

    K - Josh Scobee/Jaguars

    P - Steven Hauschka/Seahawks

    KR Josh Cribbs/Browns

  9. I thought Jville at home was a much more winnable game.....and we scored 3 points. Carolina is an unwinnable game.

But really since we've already clinched an early offseason, we should probably rest the starters. Wouldn't want to get a key player injured in a meaningless game. Also I imagine with lesser numbers, Mathis and Wayne could probably be resigned a little cheaper.

  10. Jesus Christ thank you for finally saying this. We're the same team we were in '09 with a few better players, and no Peyton Manning. I fail to understand why some people think that even with a healthy Manning we're no better than a .500 team. A lot of our players are below average, but Big P is so good it doesn't matter.

  11. Well I am just baffled as to why people who don't like Bill Polian would take the time to listen to his show. Also I am baffled to why anyone would think he would do anything but support his coach/players at this time given their record. It's all GM speak, no different then what Bill Belichek says when he is interviewed.

    Hahahaha

Bill, I mean dn, is baffled. I don't think the guy who voiced his opinion on the Polian show actually listens to it. That would be a pointless exercise. He's basically just saying the show itself is a waste of air time.....which it is.

  12. You better duck...how dare you blame the colts record on the players and the offense....

What are you talking about now? You think people are going to berate him for blaming the offense when they put up zero points? People berate you for making *ic claims that it's somehow Peyton's fault our team sucks. OP's definitely got a lot of good points. He's not saying it's all the offense's fault, he also says the defense is pretty bad. It is a team effort. Your posts have always been of the opinion that it's nobody's fault including coaches/management......and now apparently it's our injured qb's fault. You make no sense.

OP I think you're pretty much echoing what I've been trying to say for a while. Peyton is so good that he covers all the deficiencies of the offense and allows the defense to get some more rest by not going 3 and out every single drive.

  13. Because our coaching staff wants to wait as long as possible to put a drafted player on the field. Hughes, Rucker, Thomas, Ijalana, Carter, etc.

Well Hughes is behing 2 Pro Bowlers, Thomas started last year on IR, Ijalana went to IR after 4 games, and Carter has been playing just about every game so...........there goes that argument.

  14. I was with you up until the Brown part. Have you watched him recently?

The reason I call Brown a bust is because I feel the RB position is one that can be filled with 7th rounders/undrafted guys. We could get the same production out of a Danny Woodhead type and use that number one pick on a badass corner or lineman. It's not that I think Brown is bad, I would have just rather spent that pick on someone more worthy of a first round pick.

  15. See, the thing about Hughes is he isn't going to get on the field in favor of Freeney or Mathis very often. We use a tandem at the DE position. Anderson and Brayton play more on run downs. Freeney and Mathis play more on pass downs. All of those DEs get plenty of breathers. It's not like we need to give Freeney a breather when he only plays half the defensive plays. I'm still not ready to give up on Hughes because when I watch him, he gives a good push up front, he's fast, and he holds his gap well. He will make Mathis expendable next year. Could his draft pick have been used on someone better? Of course, but it doesn't make him a bust yet. Brown is a bust, always has been a bust, and always will be a bust.

  16. I wanted him last year before the Dolphins franchised him. People might be leary of him given the team he plays for, but I feel he would be awesome against the run. He's the same size as Haloti Ngata plus he's Samoan. You gotta like those big Samoan nose tackles. He'd definitely be an upgrade over Johnson.

  17. To be honest I just laugh it off when someone rips them. They deserve the ripping. I normally just say '0-16' or 'Suckin' for Luck'. Seriously at this point I'm rooting for 0-16. There's nothing cool about going 2-14, but to lose every single game, that's called dedication to sucking. Pretty much for me it's anything to get an overhaul in coaching and to maybe get rid of Bill.

  18. I absolutely saw them as SB contenders - and MANY others on here have expressed the same. Most "experts" were basing their predictions (more typically 10 wins and a narrow division victory by the way, only a few loonies had 8) on the fact that the Colts only won 10 last season and seemed to have some serious issues. Surely a devoted Colts fan would have noticed that virtually every issue last year besides the offensive line was due to injuries, and that the Colts took a giant step towards addressing that in the draft. If nothing else changed - and we still had Peyton - I would expect us to be 6-1 or better right now. And that's with Sanders/Hayden not making it back and a whole new string of excessive injuries.

    +1,000,000.

I've been trying to say this exact same thing. Starting the year out we were the same team, minus CJ plus Castonzo, minus DeVan (who sucks) plus Reitz, plus Delone Carter, plus Drake Nevis, plus Anderson, Brayton, and Sims. Not to mention a healthy Collie, Gonzo, Clark, Bullitt, and Addai. I don't see how anyone who follows the Colts could think we were anything but a Super Bowl contender. This is a team that should not be 0-7. The fact that we are falls on the coaching staff and front office, who are currently baffled by our terrible secondary play....jeez who woulda thunk getting rid of Tryon would be a bad thing.

  19. I know some fans have said he's old and feeble, but those are just the really dumb fans......you guys know who I'm talking about. He may be old but he is sure as heck not feeble. He will play out the next four years. Book it. We will be improved next year. Hopefully Irsay wakes up and gets us a new coach, DC, and gets rid of Old Man Polian. I'm willing to give Chris a good shot at showing his GM chops. We will have a good team next year.

  20. Okay dn you want some contract numbers?

    Colts total 2011 cap hit - $95,895,962

    Patriots total 2011 cap hit - $95,190,378

    Steelers total 2011 cap hit - &116,810,975

Colts players with $1,000,000 plus base contracts: Dwight Freeney, Reggie Wayne, Ryan Diem, Antoine Bethea, Dallas Clark, Kerry Collins, Peyton Manning, Robert Mathis, Jeff Saturday, Gary Brackett, Eric Foster, Anthony Gonzalez------12 total players

Pats players with $1,000,000 plus base contracts: Tom Brady, Leigh Bodden, Brian Waters, Dan Koppen, Deion Branch, Mike Wright, Wes Welker, Benjarvis Green-Ellis, Andrew Carter, Steven Gostkowski, Shawn Ellis, Logan Mankins, Albert Haynesworth, Dan Connolly, Chad Ochocinco, Matt Light, Gary Guyton-------------17 total players

Steelers: Ben Roethlessberger, Troy Polamalu, Aaron Smith, Casey Hampton, James Harrison, Heath Miller, Chris Komeatu, Brett Kiesel, Hines Ward, James Farrior, Ryan Clark, Bryant McFadden, Larry Foote, Byron Leftwich, Willie Colon, Will Allen, Dennis Dixon, Lamar Woodley, Arnaz Battle----19 players

All teams tie up a lot of their cap with a small portion of players. It is the GM's job to fill in the other spots with cheaper, yet still talented players. We are no different than other teams as far as how we pay people, we just don't have much talent outside of our starting quarterback position.

I don't know how you figure people are just now saying we need changes. The more intelligent people on the forum have been saying for years that our defensive philosophy needs to change, our oline lacks talent, special teams sucks, and if our starting qb goes down we're a 3 win team. It's because we know what we're talking about and you don't. You can continue to turn a blind eye to the team's deficiencies, and continue to be okay with an underachieving football team surrounding the GOAT as our QB. Or you can be a part of the revolution. I say you can be a part of the revolution because I assume you are Bill Polian as only he would defend this mess of a team. You need to wake up Bill. Get rid of Caldwell, Coyer, and Rychelski, stop using the injury excuse, get rid of lesser talents like Lacey, don't cut good players like Hayden and Tryon, keep building through the draft but don't shy away from good free agent pickups, and stop using the same terrible coverage scheme every down.

  21. Maybe with us having such a bad season, and Polian being baffled by the abysmal play of our secondary, I feel we could make more of a play in free agency. I've always been of the opinion that if you have a massive hole on your team, ours being CB, you fill it by going after a solid, proven player in free agency. Why take a chance on still having that hole when all you do is draft a 4th round scrub?

    Who would you want?

    Courtland Finnegan

    Brent Grimes

    Tracy Porter

    Any other ideas?

These guys might be expensive but I'd rather overpay for one of them then overpay to watch Reggie Wayne lose multiple steps as he fades away like Marvin Harrison. You pay for 'em while they're young, and kick 'em to the curb when they're old. Personally I want Finnegan. A scrappy cornerback with an Irish name. You gotta like that. Plus it would be nice to steal from a division rival for a change.

  22. Big friggin deal if Peyton took all the practice reps. I'm sure Painter got all the second team practice reps.

I know Peyton is already qb and offensive coordinator, I didn't know he was also the quarterback coach. Jesus Christ, apparently the guy is supposed to do everything for this team. It's not like Painter's numbers are bad, he's just not the caliber player that Peyton is. Peyton can single handedly win games, and it's asking too much out of Painter to expect him to do the same thing.
