  1. Nah, I am glad we drafted Luck and moved on from Manning. But this "QB does it all by himself" narrative has been around the Colts for over a decade. In 2006, when the Colts last won the Superbowl, it was "Peyton Manning and everyone else" back then too. You would have thought he was out there making every tackle, every catch, every kick all by himself. It doesn't matter how great your quarterback is, you aren't getting to the playoffs, let alone the AFC Championship without the other players pulling weight. Football is the ultimate team sport, and no team gets by simply by the effort of one player...no matter what the media wants you to believe.

I agree with this.  This is why I believe Peyton ist the GOAT even though he has only won one SB as compared to Brady;s 4.

  2. The thing with the Jets and Sanchez/Smith is they have had very little offensive star power since LT left town. I am not saying Hilton and our other offensive weapons carry Luck, I am saying that they definitely do their part. Same with the O Line, they are not as awful as everyone makes them out to be. Very few teams have the talent on their o line like Dallas does...its crazy to suggest the Colts line needs to play at that level.

Wayne is considered a potential HOFer but Marvin and several other all time greats dont make the cut because at the same time they are considered by products of a great quarterback.

I am just trying to dispel the notion that Andrew Luck is the greatest quarterback ever...hes still young and has a lot of room to improve. I understand he is everyones sweetheart around here, and any bad comment about him is treason in these parts...but come on.

Our team is not "complete" but there are 31 other teams that can say the same things. Luck is an excellent quarterback, but there is more than enough talent around him. Hes not out there doing it all on his own.

That was my point. My point wasnt to take away from Lucks accomplishments. It was to give credit where credit is due...our skill positions and o line are not "holding him back" by any means. Even if you put him on the Cowboys,Steelers orwhatever team you think has it all figured out offensively, his stats would look like they have with the Colts.

Do you really think Luck would put up equal or better numbers if he was drafted by the Jets, Jaguars or Rams? These teams are barren at offensive skill position players, the Colts are not. Do you think he would have amassed 33 regular season wins on any of those teams? I do not.

Andrew Luck deserves credit, but he gets ALL the credit. The fact that Hilton, Fleener, Allen, Davis and some of our other players are "starting to get recognition now" is a good thing...but to say the team lacks talent besides 12 is short sighted at best.

Andrew is the most valuable player on our team, I recognize that. But we didnt win 33 games in 3 years by "simply drafting Andrew Luck". The other players did their parts as well. Some people act like Luck should be throwing 80 TDs a year by year three and thats totally unrealistic. Some people act like hes head and shoulders above all other QBs, and its not true. In reality hes slightly ahead of guys like Matt Ryan and Cam Newton and behind Rodgers, Manning, and Brees. Not saying this is a bad thing...a guy in his third year playing like a ten year vet is an incredible thing...but lets not forget hes still a young player with flaws of his own.

Im sorry but Marvin IS an all time great.  He made catches that no one else could make.  Just a great reciever

  3. I think this is a slam dunk, elite defense all the way.

The 2 times the #1 offense met the #1 defense, the #1 offense got decimated (2002 Raiders vs Bucs, 2013 Broncos vs Seahawks). Besides, the #1 passing offense has never won a SB (2007 Patriots, 2013 Broncos etc.) I am taking defense all the way if it is an "or" situation. :)

You can have a good opportunistic offense that does not have to score much if you have that elite defense. That gives you the luxury of not having to force the issue on offense and stay patient and sooner or later, the offensive opportunities will present themselves. Plus, it also gives the offense a little room for error should your QB make a mistake or two and against playoff Ds, it is bound to happen. Not to mention, a defense can flip field position with turnovers to help the offense out to score points.

I think you are right.  Its why Peyton dosnt have multiple rings.  Colts D stunk throughout his years

  4. August 13th 1966 - Tulane Stadium - New Orleans, Louisiana

Preseason Game - Baltimore Colts v. Philadelphia Eagles

    Colts - 31

    Eagles - 17

Attended this game with my Grandfather. Back then, the NFL would schedule preseason games in non- NFL cities to promote the league and grant the fans of these cities a chance to see their favorite teams and players. I had already been a Colts fan 2 years earlier. However, witnessing this game in person against the Philadelphia Eagles cemented my life long beloved loyalty to the Colts. I had the privilege of seeing my two favorite Colts players ... Johnny Unitas and Raymond Berry. Ever since that day I have followed the Colts and became a rabid fanatic to this day. It's been a GREAT ride and would not trade my NFL/Colts experiences for anything in the world. I love this team and always will. #COLTSNATION RULES

Saw Unitas in 67 and have been a fan ever since.  It was a rough ride for many, many years but Peyton made it all worth while.  Been heaven ever since.  What great QB's the Colts have had.

  5. Got it. When players have a bad game, they are seriously injured. What a load of codswallop.

We smacked them in their own house. Credit where credit is due. As a fan base, I really wish we would stop making excuses for our opposition. I'm sure they don't offer us the same gratitude......

Yes the Colts beat Denver in their own house but got whipped by the team Manning beat one year earlier in the AFCCG.  I think what people are saying is that the Colts arnt over the hump yet.  I personaly think they got Lucky in the game against Denver.  It happens.  But it was a win and the Colts out played Denver on that day.

  6. That's a two way street IMO, he should also recognize that he was a shell of himself last season and shouldn't realistically expect the Colts to keep him. He was handsomely rewarded for his excellent play over the years, he should recognize that it's time to retire. I'm against parading a guy out there on some kind of farewell tour. If he had come out and retired first would you be complaining that he didn't come back to give the fans one last hoorah? I doubt it. The Colts owe it to the fans and the other players on the team to put the team in the best position to win, not to be "loyal" to a guy that can't play anymore. There's only 45 spots on an active roster on game day, you can't waste any of them on someone that you know can't play.

First off, you have NO idea what I would say in certain situations.   I think he should have been able to retire first before letting him go.   I think players of his caliber need to know that they are playing for a team that wont just toss them aside when the end comes and that they should be able to go out with the dignity they deserve.  How many jerseys did Reggie sell for the Colts to give them the money they need to sign great players?  The Colts would have never been in the position they are in if it wernt for some of the players that are no longer there. Peyton, Marvin,Clark, Saturday, I could go on.  He deserves more than a boot out the door.  I guess I see the players as human and not just a statistic.

  7. Man...I hope Reggie goes to play with Peyton and lights it up for one last year. While I realize it is a business decision, I am disappointed in the front office for not bringing Reggie back (assuming he wanted to).

Yes, there are just some players who deserve that kind of respect.  He helped build that stadium along with Peyton,Marvin and Edge.

Would love to see him with Peyton one more year.   There have been other unsung heroes that I wanted to have retired as a Colt like Marcus Pollard,  he gave his all when he played here.  Just sad to see the end of an era.  Good Luck Reggie

  8. Two things:

    1. Firmly believe that Reggie retires now.

    2. If that was what Reggie was going to do anyway (we may never know now), why not let him wait till he announces it? He deserves a little more time and respect than essentially saying "we don't want you even if you do want to come back" when in reality, he wasn't going to come back anyway.

I agree, he deserves and has earned the respect this team should give him.

  9. I will be watching it because I'm a fan of the game of football and this is the biggest football game of the season.  I won't be cheering strongly for anyone; I hope the Pats put up 60+ points on the loudmouthed Seahawks, but I don't really care about the outcome.  Does it really make a difference if one group of potential ball-manipulating cheaters with a history of cheating beats another group of PED-taking cheaters led by a don't-ask-don't-tell cheating coach?

    Thats where Im at

  10. Makes me sick to see Marvin get snubbed for the HOF.  I watched Tim Brown and Marvin was way more talented.  The first year I saw Marvin play I new he was special.  Well Marvin, your a HOF mer to me.

  11. I will give you the fact that RW should probably retire but the OC has to draw up better plays that open up receiver's. You can't tell me that the Pats have such elite wr's that they are able to get 5-10 yards of separation play after play? TY and Moncrief should have been able to catch more balls than they did but every play was hotly contested when they tried to throw. Luck missed a few plays to his guys but they just don't seem to try and scheme for getting receivers open, we try and out talent them. The NFL is full of guys close in talent, its the coaches who plan better and put the guys in better positions to succeed. Nothing points this out more than this past game. Pep wouldn't be a pimple on BB booty in devising plays for specific games played. Pep does just enough to say wow, look at this play or look at that one, this coach has vision. Then he goes on a trek of just bland regular plays and say, your the athlete, out athlete the defender. Need better than this.

I thought it was always Peytons fault that he loses

  12. And, over the past 17 years, there are two reasons we are not those teams - we lucked into two once in a generation QBs. Unfortunately, to save our lives, we cannot build any sort of reasonably balanced teams around them.  We wasted Manning's career - on our way to wasting Luck's.  It's a good thing I am a selfish Colts fan, because if I were only thinking of their well being, I would be wishing they had been drafted by other teams.

The coaching is huge.  Im convinced if Peyton had played for Billiceck he would have 5 SB rings.  Terrible coaching has been Peytons achillis heal

  13. Which brings up the point, I don't want to be a team carried to the playoffs by a couple great players, but rarely strong enough to make a real push ... see the Manning years.

Exactly,  thats why I get mad when they say Manning chokes.  It takes a team to win.  He's the only QB I know that when his team loses, he has to take credit for the loss.  He didnt blow that coverage against Baltimore 2 years ago but everyone adds that game on to one of his 1 and done stats.

  14. I would like people to think back to the low point of 2011 the beat down by the Saints. If I told you right then that they were going to release Peyton Manning there was no way around it but the next three years they would make the playoffs win two divison titles, three playoff games and be in the AFC championship in year three how much I would have been laughed at for saying it, or if it was offered to you how quickly you would have signed up for it.

Tonight stings. There is no doubt about that and clearly something has to change because if we want to take the next step at some point you have to beat New England and right now we can't even make a game out of it let a lone beat them but let's not toss the baby out with the bath water and lose sight how far this team has come and frankly they have come further in three years than even the biggest homer of Colts fans thought they could come three years ago.

That was not a beat down by NO, Im sorry but it was a much closer game than the score suggests.
