  1. Texans have an easy schedule?

They play everyone we play besides the Pats and the Chiefs.

I take our experience over the texans experience in games like the Saints, Falcons, Steelers, and Ravens.

Also its not like the Jags and Titans don't play them tough either.

And if Matt Shaub can't stay healthy then they are doomed. Matt Lienart couldn't make it throwing to Larry Fitz and Anquion Boldin, which is a better combo than Johnson and Jacoby Jones.

I'd take Kerry Collins over Matt Lienart anyday.

    Back to the OP.

    Are you alone? Certainly not

    1. we have the best dline we have had in quite sometime

    2. we have gotten bigger on the Oline which should really help with our Run Blocking

    3. we got alot of backups some great playing time last year

    4. When Bob Lamey is your voice of a team, that team always has a shot period.

    5. our only question outside of the qb IMO is 1 corner back.

I am at 12-4 this year with this team. Regardless if Manning is a go for the 1st week.

Houston looks real good, this is a tough game and with it being PM first of the season, Im scared.
  2. I think people are looking at Delone Carter all wrong. I don't think it makes sense to hold him for short yardage. I'd use him all day long and make the anti-pass, 5 DB defenses of the opposition get tired of trying to bring down a 225 pound running back with speed and agility. For passing, I'd stick to lightning quick chunks out of the slot with Collie, Clark, Tamme, Gonzo, etc.

Late in the game, as the other team tires out, a fresh Joseph Addai can come in and slash and shuffle his way through a bunch of winded defenders. Or he can provide a safety valve as Manning looks to bury the hatchet with some big pass plays.

If we get into short yardage situations and bring in Carter, everyone in the stadium will know what's coming, and the D will dial up a 148 man front. I don't care if he's 325 pounds: most of the time, he's not getting there against a run-expectant defense.

I just think that a lot of us will be disappointed if 3rd and goal is where we primarily see his number called. He's far too versatile for that, and our offense (especially Addai) would benefit greatly by exploiting his talents.

@OP: You are not the only one who thinks so. In case you haven't noticed, since the forums moved, a lot of the veteran posters disappeared. That left us with a whole lot of new people and trolls. I don't know the median age, but I'd guess it's far younger than it once was. They are gullible. Combined with the rhetoric of the talking heads on various sports networks and suddenly the Colts are about to implode.

In my opinion, this is once of the most talented, and complete rosters (at least on paper, and in theory) that we've fielded in the Manning era.

This Carter guy is the best thing Ive seen from the Colts this pre-season. the rest, stinks.

  3. I think everyone is getting the wrong idea here. I'm not calling for the firing of Caldwell, at this point before the season. I'm just really back tracking and asking why was this guy ever hired and if Manning comes out and suffers an injury and is gone for the season, and the Colt's lose 12 games, which will happen, will they get serious about the head coaching job?

I know what you are trying to say and I agree with you. I started a similar post about close to the same thing.

  4. I was jk. I don't think think there are alot of bandwagon fans. I think a lot of people are Manning fans and not Colt fans. Most people on this forum are like this. How can you bash all the front office and the personel, except Manning, and claim to be a Colts fan. Most people hate every move the Colts do. Then everyone says we suck without Manning. Sounds like most are Manning fans and not Colt fans, so when Manning calls it quits, do so most so called Colts fans?

Been a fan since 1967 and I have NEVER liked the IRSAYS for many differant reasons, not just football related. I think the front office has done a terible job with the GOAT qb. I think Manning is the best and have allot of respect for him but I want the team to win. I know it makes no sense to support a team that I cant stand the owner of but Johnney Unitus was the guy that got me hooked and inspite of Irsay, they are my team forever. I get so tired of the bandwagon name that people throw out there. As far as the Colts this year, they look terrible and not coached very well. Painter stinks and should not even be in the NFL.
  5. well,im still not going to judge them based on what happened in the last two games,i want to see this next one b/c they"are going to prepare" for this one.....

everyone is always quick to jump the gun, saying we are going to be the worst team in the nfl in the preseason,i thought the defense played alot better this time

db's not so much but conner, nevis, chick, freeney and mathis looked twice as good as they did in the first, regardless of what happens guys we have to work with what we got....

i dont think manning will be sitting down first regular season game......more less six...there is a reason manning is an elite qb....

I didnt say they are the worst team in football but by what Ive seen in this preseason, name me a team we would beat. I am not jumping the gun here, again, they arnt looking great with the starters in there. Granted Manninings out but that was my origanal point. I dont think we are ready to face houston in the opener from what ive seen. Hope im wrong.

  6. How can 1 guy make such a difference on a team? I can see some of it with the position he plays, but the whole team seems to stink. After all these years with Manning, they have not built a great team around him. Every other team in the league is improving but us. I have not seen improvement over the years. We deal with injuries every year because we play small ball. Our players cant seem to hold up for a season. Yea small ball sounds good and it almost works but rarely does. One SB with the GOAT QB isnt good enough. Its like a fighter getting the opponent to keep throwing the same punch because he lets it barley miss so the guy keeps thinking he can hit him and wastes the energy trying the whole fight. Im watching all the other teams and we look like the bottom of the NFL. I know its preseason and we always lose but when our starters are in, we hold our own. Thats not happening this year. I watched Houston play yesterday and they are for real. They looked scary and right now, we cant beat the Redskins or anybody else for that matter. I personally am very worried about this team. First year I dont think we have a chance at a SB in a long time. Always believed you needed a little luck along with a good team, and this year, I dont see it. I hope Im wrong.

  7. My knee jerk reaction is that other teams are prepared, why aren't we?

Thats the way I feel, I know we never win games in preseason but we dont even have a bright spot to look at. Team does not look as prepared as the rest of the teams around the leauge. Coaching on this team has always been a concern. I am not a Caldwell fan and believe he is in over his head. I hope Im wrong but I dont think so.

  8. I have to admit that Im worried about this team. Pre season dosnt mean much and Painter stinks so hopefully thats all this is. I bwill be ready to blame coaching and the fact that our skill players are not that good.

  9. Moss should just start showing up to the Colts' practices and preseason games and watch with the rest of the fans. It'd create a huge media buzz and he'd get more familiar with what they are doing offensively. Plus the coaches would keep seeing him sitting over there watching while several of our WRs are sitting out injured and it'd only be a matter of time before we went ahead and signed him. That'd be awesome! Not signing him, that'd be cool and everything, but it'd be awesome for him to keep showing up at practice and games and putting pressure on us to sign him. It'll obviously never happen, but would be awesome to see...

    I like it.

  10. Every year we go 1-3 or 0-4 in the preseason and everyone starts freaking out. Then we win 10+ games in the regular season. I'm not sure why that is exactly, but I know this year I'm not going to worry about the results -especially after not having any off season sessions- and will just focus on the individual players.

I'm just glad football is back!

The problem that I have is that I dont see where they get some of these guys. Kick returner cant catch, QB's cant throw. They look very disorganized compared to other teams. I know we never win preseason games but this game was pathetic. Quite watching.

  11. I know I might be bashed for this, but the only thing that really bugs me sometimes is I feel the Colts offensive philosophy is so bland and predictable. I even heard it say by a Patriot linebacker that the Colt offense is not hard to figure out. The problem is they execute it so well, there is often times there is not much you can do about it. I think when Peyton isn't playing, it underscores that point. Look at the Patriots, on the other hand. Brady, Hoyer, Cassel. Doesn't matter. They all play like all pros. Why? Their offense. They are always mixing things up, throwing in new wrinkles.

Now, I know somebody will say we when more games then anyone. I agree. A lot of that is Manning. I do wonder if he had a coach like a Sean Payton, who seems to always have some new wrinkle, how things would work. I think Manning would be ever better. Now, I know that is my opinion and no facts back it up. But just notice sometime how often Manning has to be deadly accurate just to move the ball, where other teams don't have such a small window for success.

I have been saying this for years on this forum. They are very pridictable. Too much so IMO

  12. The Brady to Ocho connection is going to be VERY tough. Anyone who argues otherwise is just being willfully ignorant, the same way they were when they said the Brady to Moss connection wouldn't work. It is literally only by miracle that they didn' have the perfect season...

I don't think they'll break the Brady/Moss records of 2007, but they're going to get close.

And they may have a team around them that can get the hardware that the Brady to Moss connection couldn't...

Chad johnson(dont speak spanish) is allot easier to cover than Moss. It wont be near as big.

  13. The main thing is that Colts fans realise we have limited time here. We will never get a better opportunity to win the Lombardi again than in the next 3,4, maybe 5 years with Manning at the helm. And it is incredibly frustrating because we can all see, a couple good signings on the defence (heck they don't even need to be the best in FA) and we are right back into Super Bowl contention.

However, this off-season not only have we not gone out to get those couple signings needed (i'm looking at you Mebane & resigning Session)but we have seen every contender in our own division and our main rivals overall (Patriots & Jets) strengthen. Sanchez publically came out stating he was willing to restructure his contract to get his team over the line - and i believe they will sign Aso. Where's Peyton in all this? Why has he not been signed up yet? The management has had almost 6 months to figure out how to do it. Oh, and i believe i remember seeing Irsay say he'd make a splash in free agency. Did he mean Nate Davis?

NOTE: Don't tell me we are over the cap so cannot sign anyone in free-agency. Management are paid to work out how to free cash. Look at New York.

Great post because I agree with everything you say. We do have a very limited time. We need to get Moss.
