  1. Patriot fans (and fans of any other team) are always welcome to start a thread as long as they abide by forum rules when doing so.

However, I do agree that there have been times when the purpose of those threads seems to be nothing more than an attempt to :stir:

It would be best if Colt's fans would just ignore such threads because they would then quickly fade away. But, that isn't going to happen. :sigh:

Even this thread which was based on a stupid poll has gone on for several pages. Since this thread is going nowhere other than to rehash the great debate, I could close it. But, I am sure that another such thread (started by either a Colt or Patriot fan) would soon be posted.

Maybe it would help if I edited the title of this thread to read . . . 3.8% of NFL Players. As I said before, this poll was based on a mere 16% response rate. Let't take the math even further.

Brady received 24% of those votes. Which equals 65 votes. So, 3.8% of NFL players voted for him.

Manning received 18% of those votes. Which equals 49 votes. So, 2.9% of NFL players voted for him.

Yes, Brady received 16 or 0.9% more votes. Seems like a rather paltry amount to me as a basis for this discussion. :eyebrow:

  2. At the risk of once again displaying my ignorance :hide: , I'm writing in the hopes that someone will be able to explain this to me. The article said:

A Sports Illustrated poll asked 272 NFL players, “Who would you pick first if you were building a team from scratch?” Brady came in first, with 24 percent of the votes. Peyton Manning came in second, with 18 percent — a result that likely would have been different if the poll had been taken later, as this survey was distributed to players before we all knew how severe Manning’s neck injury was. Coming in third place was Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, at 14 percent

Now no offense to Tom Brady, the Patriots, or their fans. Even if this poll had said that Peyton had come in first I would have questioned the validity of this poll.

First, why 272 players? Is there some reason only 272 players were asked? And, who were these players? Were they chosen at random? If so, that could skew the results as there could have been more players from one team asked than from another.

A better way would have been to ask the same number of players from each team. But if so, 272 divided by 32 gives us 8.5. Which would say that one player from each team only received 1/2 of a vote. :???:

Although the article doesn't say it, I think it is far more likely that all the players were asked and that only 272 responded. So, if 53 players on every team were asked; that would give us a total of 1,696 players of which 272 is only a mere 16%. And again, of that 16%; it is also highly likely the results were skewed because more players from one team responded than from another.

When I see polls like this, I give them little to no credence. Am I missing something?

  3. Only time I ever remember it being easy for you guys was in 05 the regular season when Manning, Harrison and Wayne played toss.

I see a lot of people say have to put pressure on Ben..I hope the Colts do that..Cause then Ben will scramble..and he has like a 113 qb rating outside of the pocket on the run and like a 98 in the pocket..I love when the play breaks down and he throws people off of him. It's fun to watch.

Also I wanted to say how much respect I have for this board. Haven't seen a joke made about Roethlisberger once..which I understand peoples feelings on it but seriously? I don't really care for ben as a person at all..but I can't control who the QB of my favorite team is.

Sorry, I had to edit your post. I know, it may seem ironic that as a Steeler's fan you can't call your QB whatever you want; but we don't permit insulting nicknames on this site.

Also, welcome :hello: . It's always great to have members who are fans of other teams who aren't trolls. Hope you stick around.

  4. Dear Peyton,

If I knew it would speed your recovery, I would be willing to:

    Join a monkey baseball team

Or, take a bath in sardines and cream.

I would walk everywhere instead of taking my car,

Heck, I would even make this guy :brady: my avatar.

But, I know that won't help; so I am just here to say:

"Take care of yourself, Peyton, and for your speedy recovery I pray."

  5. I think because when the QB is choosing who to throw to he'll take into account the yards after the catch. Like if he throws to a guy who has a ton of field in front of him and that guy runs for 20 yards, it wouldn't be fair for the QB to only get a 3 yard pass or something. Also, that's just the way its always been done :-/

It does morph stats though... like Brady's 99 completion wasn't some bomb down the sideline, more just a slant that Welker did the work on.

Thank you for answering my question and for being polite while doing so.

I guess that makes sense. Afterall, a QB also takes the blame for things that may not be his fault. Such as an INT or a great pass that was an incompletion because it was dropped.

Hmm, makes me think of Reche Caldwell. haha

Sorry about bringing that up, Patriot fans. That must have been a :tvhammer: time for all of you.

  6. OK, guys, bear in mind that I am still trying to learn this game. So :please:, take it easy on me if this is a dumb question.

Why does a QB's passing yards include YAC? The QB didn't pass that far, the receiver was the one who got the additional yardage.

BTW, this has nothing to do with Tom Brady. All QB's get credit for YAC and I am just wondering why. :???:

  7. It's not fearmongering, it's reality. "Other" Colts fans get upset whenever one criticizes the club for any reason. You get labled a non or bandwagon fan. All this critisism is warranted and will be here all year. The Moderator will do her best to stomp it out. Fact is without Manning to hide this teams problems, it will become abundantly clear that the coaching staff and General managers have lost touch with pro football. Years have gone by with the same problems not addressed. How do you think the Bills managed to loose four superbowls in a row? Who was in charge during this time? lets call this a loss, Change coaching staff, fire all the general managers. Use this year to evaluate the players we have. Let the new regime draft for the future. Sucking going forward is better than sucking and going backwards. We are doing the later every year.

Exactly what are you referring to when you say, "The Moderator will do her best to stomp it out."?

If you are saying that the moderators are stomping out any criticism, I beg to differ with you. Take a look around. There are plenty of threads/posts that are critical. They are left as is unless they violate forum rules.

Also, if you have any problems with the moderation; you should take it to a private message. Calling out the mods in a post is against forum rules.

  8. I stopped trying to figure out Jim's tweets a long time ago. He often speaks in a sort of code.

18 months could have been in reference to #18. :dunno:

18 months would take us to Febuary 2013. Perhaps, he is looking forward to SB XLVII and has already chalked off this one.

    :dunno:

His latest tweet seems to infer that there may have been a new signing:

    Welcome,my son...welcome..2 The Machine......Where have u been??????...That's alright..WE KNOW WHERE YOU'VE BEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then again, he could just be welcoming a friend who is coming to Indy that he hasn't seen for many years.

  9. Would the Colts have won if Peyton had played? The truth is . . . we don't know.

Would Peyton have played better than Kerry? Of course. Peyton has been with the Colts for how many years???

Kerry has been with the Colts for how many weeks???

  10. @ Falcons_Guy, Girlzarefanstoo, ViriLudant, Yehoodi, and any other members I may have missed who are fans of another team; I would like to thank you :thanks: for your kind words.

I have many friends (who are fans of other teams) on Facebook and they are taking great delight in the news about Peyton.

I find that sad. Even though I have no love for Tom Brady and the Patriots, I felt very bad for him and the Patriot fans when he was injured and out for the year.

How any fan can take delight in the injury of a player from another team is beyond me.

  11. I would think that Peyton has the best doctors available who should be aware of the benefits of HBOT and would know if it would be helpful for him.

Also, HBOT is not something to be laughed at. There is a burn unit/wound center near my home that has a huge hyperbolic chamber.

Sadly, that center is something I am all too familar with.

  12. I wouldn't go as far as saying that those who have suggesting tanking the season don't deserve to be fans. They are anxious about the future of the Colts and I would just say that they haven't thought through things. Such as:

There is no guarantee that a first round draft pick will be successful.

And, how do you ask the players to tank a season? They are professional athletes who take pride in their performance.

Do you tell Freeny to back off? Forget about those sacks this year.

Do you tell Wayne to drop passes? Do you tell Joe to fumble? Do you tell Adam to miss field goals?

That is not going to happen. I can't see the Colts or any other team ever doing that. It would be demoralizing to the players.

  13. Here are some of the Vick quotes:

"It's almost as if everyone wanted to hate me. But what have I done to anybody? It was something that happened, and it was people trying to make some money."

"Some of us had to grow up in poverty-stricken urban neighborhoods, and we just had to adapt to our environment. I know that it's wrong. But people act like it's some crazy thing they never heard of.”

  14. im not sure if this has already been discussed, but i think the present situation with Peyton warrants it at the very least.

Peyton's recovery is still uncertain, and since nerve damage is so uncertain there is speculation that he may never heal. Of course my hope and prayer is that he does recover and is able to return without missing more than one season at most.

However, due to the uncertainty, this thought crossed my mind. Would there ever be a situation in which it would be practical to "throw the season," secure the number 1 pick, and draft Andrew Luck. Im not ready to retire Peyton yet, and I hope he plays for a few more years, but this neck thing could shorten or end his career. But Andrew Luck appears to be the best QB college prospect since Peyton in my opinion, and a big part of me thinks we should try to get the first pick, draft Luck, and let him study under Peyton for a few years.

If the situation should arrive where we were down to the last game or two of the regular season and losing those games secured a #1 pick, then I could see throwing the end of the season.

But, I wouldn't want the Colts to deliberately throw the entire season. Doesn't sound very sportsman like to me.

And, how do you ask Reggie Wayne, Dwight Freeney, Dallas Clark, etc. not to play to their full potential? These guys are professional athletes who take pride in their performance on the field.

  15. If it's a long year it's a long year, it wouldn't be the first one I've sat threw with the Colts and it probably wont be the last one. That's why I've enjoyed everything from 1998 till well now because I knew it wasn't going to be like that forever, teams have bad years, the fact we've had one since 1999 is remarkable. The Steelers and Pats can't even say that. It's why I've chosen to enjoy the fact we got one Super Bowl rather than complain about all the others we "should" have won. We have been in the golden age of Colts football and frankly I think some people have missed a lot of it out of pure greed (again not saying you are one of those people). I am still going to watch the Colts every Sunday and pull for them and enjoy the fact we have football and probably make me enjoy Peyton that much more when he's back. Frankly if the Colts losing games and Peyton Manning being hurt is the worsthing to happen to you this year (and I say you in the general sense not just you as in you) you should be grateful. It is just football and game after all. Honestly I find it a bit disturbing how wrapped up in this some people are getting (again not saying you are your thread just made me think of it) and are acting like this is the worst thing that could possiably happen to them. Take it from someone who did lose someone very close this year it's a game that is ment to be entertainment, just enjoy it even if we do stink and if it's truly the worst thing to happen to you this year then you are a very lucky person.

Just my two cents and again frankly it's probably not even worth that.

^This. After "the decision" game, there were people who were traumitized and saying it was the worst thing that had ever happened to them.

I didn't like that decision either. But that same week, a friend was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and the daughter of another friend passed away. While others were crying about that game, I was crying for friends whose lives had been torn apart.

  16. I see no purpose to this thread other than to rehash a closed thread.

There were many members who were guilty of hurling personal insults in that thread which is what lead to it being closed.

Also, those personal insults were not just made by members who disagreed with the OP.

And, those who did know who they are because they have been warned.

    Thread closed.

  17. Blueshoe is correct. This thread was started because people could not stand the writing on the wall and it was taken down. It took a patriot fan to make you all feel better. Colts have a hand full of good players in support of an extraordinary QB. We have never had a decsent defense. Until now, most people correctly knew that where Peyton goes this team goes. Now , all of a sudden, This great team can survive with a QB that can manage the game. What, have the Colts have the audasity to think they are the Ravens! This team is built to play with a lead.I bet beer sales will go though the roof this year. Peyton will need further surgery. He is done for the year. Lets hope his career is not done as well.

Did you read the reason that thread was closed? If not, I am pasting it here for you:

Since this is ending on a high note (thanks GoPats)...consider this thread closed.

Everyone here needs to keep it civil and remember that all fans are welcome on this forum as long as they follow the rules and the rules will be applied equally to all fans.

If anyone has an issue with a particular user, please make use of the ignore list and if you see something 'out of the way' please use the report feature.

    Thanks.

It was closed because it had turned into nothing more than a bash fest.

As far as GoPats response, it was a great response. He didn't try to make anyone feel better. He just spoke the truth which is that none of us knows how the season will unfold.
