  2. Is that why he is letting his hair grow so long? Personally, I don't think his hair looks that good, but it all makes sense now. I had no idea Mcafee was so involved in charity work. Good for him!

Yes, so is Curtis Painter (I think). The original article written about this has been archived. But, this is what it said:

It's difficult to miss the hair. We're talking about Colts puntermag-glass_10x10.gif Pat McAfee's wavy, semi- unkempt, shoulder-length mane he stuffs into his helmet.

Enjoy it while it's here. At the end of the season, the plan is for it to be lopped off for a greater cause.

McAfeemag-glass_10x10.gif, a free spirit, has been growing his hair since his 2009 rookie year to benefit Locks of Love. The nonprofit organization provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

"I have a lot of people in my family and close friends that have been affected by cancer," McAfee said. "It's a horrible thing. One of the worst things about it is the physical appearance.

"People get embarrassed a little bit. The wig is something that helps. Anything you can do to help, why not?''

McAfee had two friends who lost their hair while going through radiation treatment.

"We all shaved our heads," he said. "Why not? Do what you can do."

McAfee said he discussed the hair-raising venture with quarterback Curtis Painter and offensive lineman Kyle DeVan in early 2009. He thought they were onboard.

"DeVan comes in the next week with his hair cut," McAfee said, smiling. "Curtis continued to grow his hair out, but he had a girlfriend who made him trim it every week.

"I was the only one who really kept it going. Now I'm finally at the point I can almost cut it. I think I have about an inch to go. Right after the season, I'll cut it."

If not for Locks of Love, it's doubtful McAfee's head would be quite so bushy.

"It gets annoying," he said. "I don't know how women do it. I wake up and my hair is all in a frizz and I've got these knots. All I do is tie it up in a ponytail because I'm like a lazy chick."

  3. In a year with so little to be happy or excited about, this guy's one of the bright spots on our team. I just saw this article on IndyStar that made me respect him even more. He's starting a foundation to help give a full-ride scholarship for children of military families. I'm a little biased, being former military myself, and with my wife currently in the Army and deployed to Afghanistan, but anyone who honors the military gets even more points in my book. Here's the link: http://www.indystar....d-military-kids

Thank you for sharing this. I love  Pat. Not only has he been one of the few bright spots this year, but reading this and knowing that he is growing his hair for Locks of Love tells me that he is a really great guy.

Also, thank you :thanks: to you and your wife for your service. I hope and pray that she soon safely returns home.

  4. I certainly hope you aren't referring to me, but Doogan's quest and Andy246. If you are, I couldn't care less if I'm right or wrong. Unless Irsay comes out and says his tweet specifically was or wasn't directed toward change coming at the starting qb for the Colts, we'll never know for sure. For the record, my thread has nothing to do with being right or wrong. Just simply giving attention to another tweet from Irsay and personally believing that his tweet had a double meaning, as many of his tweets do. Yes, I absolutely want the Colts to win AND get the first pick of the draft. As my name in this forum suggests, I have been an Indy Colts fan since way before Manning ever came to the Colts, so the current state of affairs is more "normal" to me. The last 10 years was like a dream that I wish would have included more super bowl wins, but oh well. Regardless, as much as it drives me nuts, I like what Irsay does on Twitter. If for no other reason, look at this forum and this thread. It has all of us passionate Colts fans talking about it. Orlovsky, Painter, Collins............whoever. Somebody come in the game and make it a game and score some points. Lord help our Colts!

Nope, not directed at you whatsoever. Sorry if I gave you that impression.

  5. Compared to the majority of you, I know very little about football. But, I have read enough threads to know that some of you thought that Collins would be the answer. He wasn't.

Then, Painter showed some promise in a few games. And, some thought that he was the answer. He wasn't.

Now, some think that Orlovsky is the answer. I doubt it, but I may be wrong.

The one thing I do know is that this should not be a contest between the fans over who is right and who is wrong.

As Colt's fans, we all want the same thing . . . a winning season and at least the hope that the Colts have a chance to be in the SB.

That winning season and hope has been dashed, stomped upon, and thrown in the trash.

We are all hurting. But, I see no need to fight over who is right and who is wrong. What purpose does it serve? It won't change the Colt's record. It will still be 0-10.

We are all in the same boat. Rather than fighting with one another, is it possible that we can all just have a group hug :grouphug: ?

I sure hope so. Because, I don't care who is right and who is wrong. All I care about is the Colts and their fans and I hate to see this season tearing us apart.

  6. Come on, guys, be nice. .

If some of you really find it that hard to use simple phonics to read what was posted, I will help you out:

I think they will win 2 games. I like Mr. Luck, but right now I am watching him against Oregon State & they are giving him heck . . . 17 to 13. There's more than just a qb needed to win games. Draft big, big, big & some defensive players. Now I agree on coaches. I don't want Ryan of the Jets & his mouth, but players love playing for the fired-up guy just like the 49er's coach. That's what we need. Coaches that get in your face. Kick butt if they have to. Players today are spoiled rich kids that need to work hard for their money.

  7. I understand Jim Irsay's logic even though I disagree. I feel like the Polians should be gone for depending on Peyton too much, but when Irsay brings up this is one year out of the many successful ones, I guess I can give the Polians another chance. However, Caldwell is gone.

I am merely curious. I have seen a lot of posts regarding who someone thinks would be a better coach than Caldwell.

But, I can't recall seeing any as to who would do a better job than the Polians.

So if the Polians were fired, who would you bring in to replace them?

  8. I also hate to see a player mocked by others whether it be for religious reasons or even for "his dance". Immature in my opinion and something I would expect to see on the playground not in professional sports.

However, the discussion of religion has gotten a little out of hand in this thread and before it spirals out of control, some of the comments are being removed.

  9. Okay, Now I have probably a dumb question but how is it decided who is the number one player in the draft? :number1: I've always wondered so I thought I would ask. :thanks: for your answer in advance.

Just a :bump: to see if anyone can answer Susie's question.

I have an answer, but it would be an "uneducated" guess.

  10. The only smack I have received so far was from the greeter at a store. When he saw the Colt's coat I was wearing, he laughed and said; "Hang in there. The Colts will win again some day or some year."

I just smiled and moved on.

  11. I think this thread started by Coltssouth is heading south :). It might save us all a lot of grief if this could be closed, thanks.

I agree with you, Chad. This thread was started with the purpose of asking the members to chill and relax. Instead, it went the other way.

I have asked members to stop . . . which means cease, halt, discontinue, put an end to

But, that seems to have fallen on some deaf ears.

Please everyone, if you have a problem with another member; report it to the moderators. Do not attack them on the forums.

    Thread closed.

  12. I just got home from the dentist; and frankly, I think I had more fun having a root canal than I would have had if I had been on the forums the past few hours.

    This needs to STOP!

Don't call another member a bad fan.

Don't tell another member to leave.

Don't question the intelligence/maturity of another member.

The novacaine is wearing off and my patience is growing slim.

  13. Big news in broadcasting today as ESPN announced it has signed MNF analyst Jon Gruden to a five year "exclusive" deal that will keep him out of coaching and off the sidelines for the length of the deal. The deal starts in 2012, so that means you'll be hearing "THIS GUY" through the 2016 season

    http://www.awfulanno...-extension.html

ESPN clearly intends for this announcement to insinuate that Gruden will not be returning to coaching. Monday Night Football PR guy Bill Hoffheimer

tweeted "Cross this guy off coaching candidate list for 2012" with a link to the news.

However, as Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio speculates, ESPN has declined to release terms of the contract, which makes it tough to tell how punitive the exclusivity clause is were Gruden to leave the network for a coaching gig.

But what this contract does mean is that Gruden won't be in a hurry to move back to the coaching ranks. He has plenty of job security - and undoubtedly also a salary - that will allow him to be extremely picky about any offer to coach.

Perhaps, a job that came with a rookie franchise quarterback such as Andrew Luck could tempt Gruden. But now, he's not going to take a job just because he's desperate to get back in the NFL.

So the door for Gruden to return to the NFL may not shut completely, but it's ajar by a much slimmer margin than it was before this deal.
