We don't know that. We only know the other teams have signed more players and more 'popular' players than we, the Colts, have. We cannot know, nobody can know, if they are now better teams for it.

That is Chris Ballard's point. It is a point he has made consistently. It is a core team building belief that he is very open about. That is: Adding a bunch of really good players, some in and some just past their primes, for more money than their existing team was willing to pay them; does not make them a sure thing (and he adds, they are usually not worth it). The teams who win Free Agency are almost never the teams that win the post season.

Chris Ballard believes and Bill Polian believed (so that makes me have faith that Jim Irsay also believes) that true, sustainable, repeatable, predictable, and long term success only comes from adding in the draft and coaching them well. Then reward them and keep them.

I think he will add a piece or two yet, but he is not going to (now or ever) build this team with famous players from other teams.

Exactly.  This has been a Colts philosophical thing for as long as I can remember through multiple GMs.  Clearly it is an approach that Irsay is on board with.

I am amazed at how many people downplayed Minshew during the season, calling him a backup at best when I actually defended him. Now with AR coming back, some act like it won't be an improvement at QB. Interesting. If we can go 9-8 with Minshew, then with AR we should win 9 at worse, if not 10 or 11.

shhh, you don't want to disturb the temper tantrums :P

I heavily supported Ballard but I too believe he should've been fired with Reich and co

The reason I disagree with that is I felt that Ballard should have an opportunity to hire the coach (and draft the QB) he actually wanted, not just the coach that was the best of the leftovers after McD bailed.  So I was fully onboard with keeping him and resetting the clock with a new HC/QB combo.

We finally had a chance though to get an elite round one prospect on offense though.

This team is pretty solid. Their only  big weakness is the secondary. I just wish we could of done some things to fix it before the draft so we had some experience back there.

the draft is still over a month away.  THIS is why people dump on you.  Not because you share information.  Because you flip flop from one extreme to the other with the changing of the wind and act like the sky is falling when we're barely 7 days into the 2024 NFL league year.

You love stats, don't you? We are the 2nd most injured team in the league under Ballard's tenure

Keep going back before Ballard and I bet you'll find similar results.

I actually don't have any problem with a good faith discussion about this stuff. But when it goes to the extremes every time, it's aggravating.

    Joe flacco might be. Lol

I'm grateful for what Minshew was able to pull off last year, but even at his age I think Flacco would give us a better chance to win than Minshew did.  As long as Flacco can still throw the deep ball, that alone makes a huge difference for the offense. :)

i actually have faith in shane to give us some decent football, so I haven't been too upset this offseason.

I do think we need a safety, and corner. But we still have the draft and stuff

yes, for justin jefferson I make you a very serious offer.

what is this draft you speak of?  I was given the impression by others here that the Colts play their first game next week and we're not even remotely prepared for that!

Well their starters at the start of the year were Baker and Flowers before the injuries happened.  Both of whom were undrafted free agents so she does have a point.  However that point only goes so far because Jones the sixth round pick way out played Brents the second round pick.

As I’ve said before once you get in the league it doesn’t matter where you were drafted it matters how you play.

    Dude....never, ever say that again!

Stephon Gilmore wasn’t signed until April… Justin Houston wasn’t signed until March 21st.

its the first week of free agency and you are complaining that holes haven’t been addressed, knowing full well how Ballard approaches free agency. And then you say that “some of you should have figured this out by now.” Lol

i know, right?  oh the irony lol

I am just tired of relying on young late round draft picks in the secondary.

Were we relying on young, late round draft picks because that's what Ballard wanted to go into the season with?  Or was it due to the multiple injuries that occurred to the guys who would have otherwise been the starters?

A 31 year old safety in Diggs  won’t be the answer either. If I was Blackmon I would refuse to come back because at this point it seems they don’t want him.

There are 2 types of answers in this type of situation.  Short term answers and long term answers.  No, Diggs wouldn't be a long term answer but he could definitely be a short term answer.

Really?  How did re-signing Stewart, Moore, Pittman, Franklin, etc make the holes on this team bigger and bigger?

I disagree. Winning the right way and having a pool of star players that have integrity matter more… Would rather cheer for good guys that might not be as successful as we’d like than to have a roster full a character issues that win more…

Sadly, winning literally is all that matters to a lot of people.

the way I interpreted that tweet was sneed doesn’t necessarily want to sign a contract after being traded.  If money is the issue then once again, we need to move on.  But idk, we’ve waited this long and now are kind of stuck.

yeah you definitely misinterpreted it.  I don't think any player ever has preferred to play on the tag rather than a long-term contract.  The only way I could see Sneed refusing to a contract is if it's with a team he doesn't want to play for.  But I would have to think if that were the problem in regards to the Colts, it would have been known long before now. :)
