Stop the runner on the way to the quarterback. Wasn't that Dungy's philosophy?
Who's Justin Hamilton?

Boyd already said he has his questions ready because it’s not acceptable what he is doing right now.
Pretty sure irsay is the only one who can make that determination

I am tired of saying let’s see how it plays out. It’s the same song and dance every year.
Yeah...it really is.

I can see it now. Colts go edge at 15. End of season everyone whining Ballard can’t draft edge because the real problem is the secondary.
Everyone?! Lol. Oh...oh no. Not everyone. I can already tell you who will be whining during and after the draft.

Yeah… the same Shane that they thought were liars and thought weren’t good enough to be a head coach and now all of the sudden he’s going to be the savior? That Shane?
I uh....I actually don't know.

Steichen is my only hope we might go offense at 15.
Wow this was actually clever. You already gave yourself an excuse to not have to admit you were wrong in the case that ballard does go offense at 15. If he does, it will be because Shane coerced him to. You're on another level this time

This is one of your finest meltdowns yet, I must admit. You're arguing just for the sake of arguing and talking out both sides of your mouth.

Justin Hamilton. If AR gets hurt again, the DL struggles to get pressure consistently or if Gay misses one kick outside of 48 yards then there's no doubt in my mind that Hamilton will be shown the door... and rightly so.

I don’t even care about the rest this year. I have no unrest in watching rookies struggle again because the second year guys get injured or don’t take a leap.

This is a Ballard thread. If you think he is doing a good job then just don’t read this thread.
You completely missed the point. I'd say I'm shocked but....

Normally I can understand where Ballard is coming from with decisions. The one year he let Autry and Houston go because we had so many young guys we had used high picks on and they needed to play. While that didn’t completely work and least I can understand with the high draft picks we had used. It makes zero sense to be so in on 7th round and undrafted guys. You should not be banking on a high ceiling from them. If they were projected to have a high ceiling they would have been drafted or went higher. It rarely works your going to get a really good starter in these incidences.
How many different ways are you going to say the same thing?

Listen, I get it fans want to defend our guy in Ballard but how many years are we going to keep making excuses and listen to Ballard talk about his mistakes after the fact? 7 years of this nonsense is enough, especially when now it will reflect on our coach, who I consider to be a very good coach and our potential stud of a QB. Make no mistake about it, Ballard's mistakes don't hurt us fans other than our emotions, it hurts the players and sets them up to fail and it may become a culture where players view the franchise as a team that's not serious about winning and that is a reputation no franchise wants. My point, this is way more than Ballard pissing off fans, its wrecking the franchise and setting up players to fail. You're a free agent, would you want to play for this franchise? Did Luck see something 5 years ago and we are now just realizing it? We can all stick our head in the sand AGAIN, but I'm telling you right now, no way do we compete in our own division with the talent we currently have...NO WAY!!! Ballard will move on and get another job like Grigson did and leave this franchise a mess and that's why fans should be *.
Grover Stewart, Kenny Moore, Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman and others say hi. They don't seem to view the Colts the way you do.
QuoteNo other fan base would sit by idle and continue to back this nonsense for 7 years unless they just don't care.
Pray tell, what would other fan bases do? March towards the team facility with torches and pitchforks?
Hold rallies in front of the stadium? No one is forcing you to back "this nonsense".

We don't know that. We only know the other teams have signed more players and more 'popular' players than we, the Colts, have. We cannot know, nobody can know, if they are now better teams for it.
That is Chris Ballard's point. It is a point he has made consistently. It is a core team building belief that he is very open about. That is: Adding a bunch of really good players, some in and some just past their primes, for more money than their existing team was willing to pay them; does not make them a sure thing (and he adds, they are usually not worth it). The teams who win Free Agency are almost never the teams that win the post season.
Chris Ballard believes and Bill Polian believed (so that makes me have faith that Jim Irsay also believes) that true, sustainable, repeatable, predictable, and long term success only comes from adding in the draft and coaching them well. Then reward them and keep them.
I think he will add a piece or two yet, but he is not going to (now or ever) build this team with famous players from other teams.
Exactly. This has been a Colts philosophical thing for as long as I can remember through multiple GMs. Clearly it is an approach that Irsay is on board with.

I would prefer Blackmon and Diggs as well. A lot of people want Simmons and I wouldn’t complain if it happens but he is 34. I think Diggs would be the smarter choice considering age.

I am amazed at how many people downplayed Minshew during the season, calling him a backup at best when I actually defended him. Now with AR coming back, some act like it won't be an improvement at QB. Interesting. If we can go 9-8 with Minshew, then with AR we should win 9 at worse, if not 10 or 11.
shhh, you don't want to disturb the temper tantrums

Well, except for the QB.

Colts have the 15th pick in the draft. (MERGE)

It has been explained multiple times in this thread and others that:
1) The draft is not about THIS YEAR. It's about the next several years. It's about continuing to build your core players for the long term
2) It would not be a "waste" to pick a DT at 15. He could very well wind up being Buckner's replacement.
3) The only way a CB is selected in round 1 is if Gus is going to start employing more man coverage. If they're going to stick with being a mostly zone team, then I doubt we ever see a CB selected in the first round.
