When has this stuff materialized to become true ?There are probably 4 people in that building who know what they are doing with their picks. Steichen, Ballard, Irsay and Brown. I don't believe a word of it. Plus, if they were to trade up, that is a pretty damning assessment of Ballard's drafting at the tight end position as it would say they have already given up on the young guys as  they drafted TE's  in the 2 previous drafts. Do i think they could trade up? Sure but no one knows but those four guys. Remember this is a team who traded for Buckner and not a work of it leaked out. Once again twitter throwing stuff at a wall hoping it sticks.

    Not necessarily.

If Colts are trying to trade up to 9 perhaps they are speaking to the team picking 9 (Chicago) and it leaked out that way ?

That would be more than 4 people.  4 for the Colts and many more for Chicago.

Im in the minority on Ryan.  I’m not selling that he was very good.  But I think he got too much blame.  I think the complete meltdown of the offensive line made Ryan's job far more difficult than it needed to be.

I also thought Ballard and Reich gave up on Rivers too soon.  I thought Rivers played really well considering practice was cut way back due to COVID.   He retired the next day after Ballard told him to please give the Colts about two weeks to figure things out.

I get why…. It’s an easy trade off..  a potential long term answer at QB vs a very short term solution.   I’d make the same choice.  It just didn’t feel right the way it played out.  The NFL business side can get pretty ugly pretty quickly.

There is no doubt in my mind that Ballard was stringing Rivers along all the while he was negotiating with Philly for the Wentz trade.

Had Ballard committed right away, Rivers would have stayed

I will most likely not be available for my picks tomorrow night.  I take my mother to the Senior Center on Thursday nights for line dancing.  (And get a few steps in, myself!)

    @NFLfan @VikingsFanInChennai

I'll send you a PM with my 1-2-3 choices for each of my teams.

I won't be able to make it either @NFLfan and @VikingsFanInChennai

    I'll pm you my picks

This. I don’t want Ballard fired. We need him to succeed to keep building with Richardson. A new GM creates all kinds of other issues I would rather not think about.

In fact Ballard would hold AR back.

It's time to tear the bandaid off and move in a new direction.

Ballards shelf life as a GM is over.

    I'm very sorry

Except the biggest reason they don’t know about Richardson is they haven’t seen enough of him because he got hurt not because he didn’t have enough weapons.  The Colts need to see him do it longer and stay healthy before they go “all in”.

I'm afraid you don't quite understand.

If he has weapons that can get open he will just throw to them.

If he has WRs that can't get open that will lead to more running which will greatly increase the probability of injury.

Once again it is the chicken or the egg argument

The Colts are still trying to find out if Richardson is the guy and can stay healthy.  The Texans know Stroud is the guy.  That’s a huge difference and if you think about it explains both teams approaches to this off-season.

This is a chicken or the egg argument.

Maybe AR would be the guy if Ballard gave him weapons like Diggs or Calvin Ridley and Hopkins ?

Let's not forget that Hurts did not take off until he had AJ Brown and Davonta Smith.

To withhold weapons until AR PROVES he's the guy is a recipe for failure for our young QB

  7. I think the Texans and the Colts are two teams that are in two different places.

The Texans won the division last season and are trying to make a splash in FA and compete with the big boys - KC, Buffalo, Bengals and Ravens. They are no longer content with just winning the division.

The Colts on the other hand are just trying to win the division taking a step forward from last season.

Maybe this is why Ballard is being conservative. Because coming in 2nd place in the division could be a step up and meet Irsays approval giving Ballard another year

Ballard isn't stupid and this could be his goal
