Ellis was was aight....the other two meh. You can rattle off skill players left and right with one fricken SB to show for it. Cause we were the greatest show on turf during the season. And down right horrible in playoffs, especially outdoors

I'd blame it as much on cr@ppy coaches too. Aside from Dungy, our coaching history in Indy sucked. Mora had like one good year. Not just talking about the Manning days.

Even Dungy's playoff record sucked, but he had 12 or more wins in 6 of 7 seasons.

Having flashbacks to the Polian days. I don't think we've ever spent a high round on a IDL from as long as I can remember. And it's showed all these years. We had to trade a 2nd for Booger. When healthy the defense was much better with him in there. We signed Simon. Same thing when healthy our D was much better. He literally ate his way out of the NFL.

    in the last 40 years...

Like I said above - I love the value of WR on day 2 and even on day 1 for specific players... I just decided to trust what Ballard is saying and doing(no official visits or private workouts for any WR). I think he's telling us WR is not high on his priority list.

I guess this doesn't mean he won't draft one, but I just decided to not draft one in this mock because of the above.

love the mock except for 2xCB, and the choice of CBs. i really like Jordan Brown in the later rounds. love barrs and i'd bet he's a starter year two for someone, and long term stud if he can stay healthy. Drue will be a ST's monster at minimum, and could be more. Parham has interested me a bunch in the many simulations i've done. don't know a lot about the DE but will check him out. just getting Tillery is enough to make me happy.

on WR. while Ballard hasn't said much about WR, Reich said plenty about AJ Brown at the combine, and the Colts also had a meeting with him. Doubt they get him, but there has been talks, and also buzz. Several of the mocks on Mock Mondays had AJB as the first pick.

i honestly don't care right now. they will draft who they draft and some will like it, and some won't. i just want Ws.

The risk isn't diminished in any appreciable way. The value difference between #26 and #34 is marginal (and depending on how you feel about the fifth year option, maybe negligible; fifth year options from 21-32 aren't locks, historically).

And if Sweat's heart is a problem, it has nothing to do with where he's drafted. If I don't like his medical, I'm not taking him at #34. JMO. I might take him with a Day 3 pick. But even then, teams took Hurst completely off their boards last year, according to reports.

Probably. We'll know in 10 hours, or less.

I agree it all depends on the medical. If it's a judgement call (we'll likely still not have a clear picture, and teams likely won't have time to do any due diligence by tomorrow) and you can get a top 5 guy at 34, and I already picked 26..., and have 59, I'm much more inclined to roll the dice. That's just me though.

Personally, I'd go Tillery, then WR and S (either order) with the next two. I'm good with DL/Edge for the time if we got JT. But, if we didn't have Houston in the fold right now...

The only real difference between #26 and #34 this year is the fifth year option. The players ranked from 20-ish to 40-ish are going to be very closely ranked.

But the point is if you don't like his medical at #26 enough that you won't take the risk, there's not enough difference in value at #34 to take the risk.

i agree, but if you get what you want at 26 and it's a critical need, and sweat is still available at 34, the risk is a bit diminished.

if you wanted to roll the dice and take simmons and sweat at 26 and 34, you could win the lottery.... or get fired.

That's impressive, but if we take him with in the 1st round my guess is that his special teams days are probably over.

with his height and arms at DT/NT, I could see him playing vs punts and FGs

especially if they use him a passing down specialist in his first year.

  7. I could see it happening (Colts moving up a couple from 34). A lot of teams move up to late 1st to get that fifth year option.

That move would make a lot of sense if they think that Simmons might be available at 31. It would be critical to get a 5th year option with his injury just to cancel out the loss of a cheap rookie year.

I wouldn't want to give up anything except a 4th though... That might be enough for 3 slots if the Rams don't have a better offer.

I think Tillery will be very good.  There's a reson why Gil Brandt had him rated so high.

I think PFF had him up there as well. I don't mind missing Simmons if we get Tillery.

Yup. Not all that high on Brandt, but love PFF analysis. I think JT will be awesome vs the pass year one and give the team a much needed punch with the addition of Houston. Houston/JT/Turay would make me much more comfortable going against the improved teams on O we'll play this year (7 of the top 11).

I think JT will acclimate quickly, and could be very, very good if he gets some coaching on counter moves. He's already got great hands, and just needs to polish some things. If we picked him up, I'd forget about Simmons quickly.

I know what you mean but I felt Dee Ford was more overrated by folks outside the organization, IMO. He is good but he is not Von Miller good, who plays the run and pass both really well. Dee Ford cashed in on the interior of the Chiefs line disrupting that diverted QBs towards his side, IMO, and that disruption level is going to go up with Frank Clark being added. So you will see another guy like Dee Ford emerge this year, I am almost certain.

i think the whole unit rose the level of everyone's play. To have Ford, Houston, and Jones was pretty darn good and made it impossible to double either side. Perhaps another will emerge, but missing that experience hurts regardless.

Bigger issue IMO, is Jones is looking at management and hearing voices that are saying "wow, they probably won't pay me after my rookie contract".....

    I'm hoping he's our pick

    me too.

i do like the thought of a talent like simmons though, just hate the injury risk, hate waiting a year, and hate missing out on cheap rookie contract year.

rather have JT now. he might not be a pro bowler, but he will be a great passing down DT early year one, and has a great ceiling to turn into a PB guy down the road.
