McDermott is deadly from 3, he will be a solid backup to Bogey. They are similar players. In today's league you cant go wrong with 3 point shooters. More the merrier. He also is only 26 and a Good Chemistry player. Biggest surprise was PG signing a 4 yr deal with OKC, Lakers struck out on that one.

Definitely like bringing Doug in, like you said great 3pt shooter, great chemistry guy. I think his D is better than most think, great basketball IQ as well.

Can back up thw 2 or 3, depending on who else we bring in.

Really hope we can bring in TJ Warren, he should be on the block with the Ariza signing and having Josh Jackson.

  2. Ok, I know its been done by someone, but now that FA is amongst us. I want to look at this depth chart and see what us out there.

PG - Collison, Joseph, Holiday, Sumner

SG - Oladipo, McDermott(can play back up 2 or 3)

    SF - Bogdonavich, Alize Johnson

    PF - Young, Leaf, Poythress

C - Turner, Sabonis, Jefferson, Anigbogu

    FA's(own):

    Stephenson(hopefully he signs back again)

    Young (wont be back)

GR3 (would like to keep if price is right)

    Booker(see GR3)

After Doug signing, look to have somewhere around $5-$6m left. Still can free up some I believe?(Jefferson?)

We have both a room/ and bi annual exception. Can use one or the other.

We are deep at PG, C.

We have little depth on the wing, need to bring in/retain multiple players.

I just feel like there will have to be a trade somewhere to even out roster.

    Either:

    Collison and Jefferson

    Or

    Joseph and Jefferson

Wouldn't be all that surprised if thad was moved?

    Trade options on the wing?

    And

FA targets in our cap range?

    Who do you guys got?

    Few options:

    Trade:

TJ Warren(PHX signed Ariza and need a PG)

Wilson Chandler(Denver trying to shed salary and would attach asset to him)

    Justise Winslow

    Courtney Lee

    Mo Harkless

    Andrew Wiggins

    FA options:

    Ellington

    Afflalo

    What do you guys think?

I believe we will bring GR3 back, hopefully Lance and Booker.

I think the Pacers thought Thad was opting out, so they freed up Lances money. Think they wouldn't of done that if they had a do over, so hopefully they bring him back.

  3. So after everything that's happened, we have around $12-$14m remaining.

We can add up to another $10m if we dump Jefferson and Collison.

Doubt Collison goes any where, but so could see us dumping Jefferson and getting that unguaranteed money back. Getting us in the $20m range.

We could do a bunch of damage with that kind of loot. There isnt much cash to go around.

    I'm ready for some action.

I'm fine with bringing in Marcus Smart, but I just don't know what his value and role would be?

How much would he be worth? Do we start him at PG or use him as the backup SG. How much do we offer him so that the Celtics don't match.

I'd be fine with just upgrading the SF position and sending Bogdonovic to the 2nd unit to elevate the bench scoring. The team's success would depend on if players like Oladipo, Turner, and Sabonis make the next jump in their development.

I think Smart should definitely be looked into. I really like the guy and think he would be a great fit off ball with Vic.

As far as a SF option. How about Wilson Chandler? Seems Denver is trying to shed salary and might give up pick to get rid of him?

The probelm is: Deng has 2 more years at $18 mil a year

The other problem is Lonzo's dad  who wudl go nuts if Holiday beat out Lonzo

Really just 1 extra year of Deng, as Collison and Jefferson's salaries would be a wash. Then Dengs expiring deal would be a a decent trade chip the following year trade deadline.

    Lonzo avg 10pts 7reb 7ast 1.7stl.

Pretty solid rookie season, didn't shoot well at all, but I think that will improve.

Jason Kidd was horrible shooter when he came into the league. He actually turned into a pretty solid 3pt shooting option later in his career.

Lonzo is going to be a stud, will he stay here long term? IDK, but he will be surrounded by a lot of familiar faces.

    Lonzo

    Holiday

    Dipo

    Leaf

    Sabonis

    Turner

    Ike

Nice young nucleus, to only cost Collison and Jefferson and protected 1st

  6. Definitely think there is a good shot at bringing in Breeland, once healed. Another curious CB is Jeremy Lane, with the Seattle ties and only 27.

Also, still holding out hope on Dez, would be such a great compliment to our team, on a 1yr prove it deal. Luck would do wonders for him, as would Dez for Luck.

Like Moose said above, it would most likely be Inman though with his SD connections.

Don't feel the need for a RB, we have 3 young guys that have some potential. Got to see what we got. Saying that, Eddie Lacy is intriguing. Big body guy to pound at a team.

LB is our thinnest spot, but none of those guys do much for me. Maybe Hodges? Crazy Bowman is only 29, would be great leadership for sure.

Thats funny.  Watch a few of his games, he seems a little lost out there.  That’s also one of his negatives on every draft analysis.  Hopefully he’s coachable.

I wonder how they graded Mack.  We know it wasn’t his strong suit last season.

I hope Wilkins impresses this summer and earns RB1. Wilkins and Mack can then rotate in and out this season. I'd rather those guys play and develop than have a vet out there. Of course if they can't pass protect neither will see the field much...

Wilkins was PFF #4 RB in the draft, for pass pro.

  9. The other 2 moves that add to things is:

    1. Trading down from #140. We selected (2) WR's with the trade down picks. Increasing the odds of hitting.

With pick #140 we selected Fountain and Cain essentially.

    2. Trading Anderson(guy that didn't fit, in now a position of depth) for extra pick, which added to LB(thinnest position) chances.

Ballard is really smart and I'm glad he's on our side. Made all the right moves. Right players? We'll see, but he made all the right moves this draft.

UDFA is looking pretty promising as well.

IMO, and I could be wrong - but we held the #3 pick. Other teams reached out to Ballard and presented their offer to move up to the #3 spot. Ballard selected the best offer. Not much brilliance required - this type of thing happens every year, and there was much discussion in this forum of similar and various trade back scenarios. It's par for the course when you have a top 5 or top 10 draft position. It also just so happened that in this draft, 5 QBs were selected in the 1st round, so there were many teams willing to move up to get their QB, thus the good trade back by Ballard.

I would posit that the trade back was reactionary -- other teams reached out to Ballard with their offers.

It's about the timing of the move.

Based on the value we received in March against the trade value in the other (2) trade up for QB's(top 10). Different levels.

    #3

    #6, #37, #49, 2019 2nd

    Against

    #7

    #12, #53,#55

    #10

    #15, 3rd, 5th

Timing of trade was the brilliant part.

Just like the “Ballard Haters” can’t objectively say this draft sucked, the “Ballard Disciples” can’t say this was a brilliant draft.

In either case, you have to wait and see, but that’s no fun, especially on a fan forum.

So, we all need to decide if we want to openly discuss our point of views without being called out as a hater is or as a blind follower. We all should understand that we’re just discussing a sport, a game, and just giving our opinions, (as qualified Or unqualified as they may be).

I agree that you cant say the players are going to pan out at the moment.

My argument is the strategy he uses in the draft. The players are all undetermined.

But moving out of #3 when he did - Brilliant

Selecting 11 guys at 5 positions at need to increase the odds of hitting on a player at said position - Brilliant

Players are just names till they prove their worth.

I like our chances with how this draft played out.

Again, no one is arguing the positions. It's the players that are uninspiring.

Uninspiring why? Because you wanted/ thought someone else was better?

How anyone can be upset about a GM telling you what his plan is, then executing HIS plan, is beyond me?

The guy put in the work to figure out who his guys were. He obviously had all his picks rated higher than, the guys some others wanted.

Like has been said, that happens every year. Just have to set back and let it play out.

If we come out of this draft with 6 or 7 contributors, it will he a major success. I definitely see that as a possibility.

    1. Nelson

    2. Leonard

    3. Smith

    4. Turay/or Lewis(maybe both?)

    5. Hines

    6. Cain/ or Fountain

    7. Adams or Franklin

The odds were increased by Ballard's draft strategy. Whether you like the players now or not. Time will tell, as it is now, odds are increased on our side.
