Actually a FG would have tied it at 23-23. Then Stroud would have probably gotten a 3rd and 20 with a bomb to Nico in OT to win it chuckling homer simpson GIF

    Yep.

For some reason the opposing safeties against the Texans seem to get confused and are easily manipulated to be out of position. haha

I think THIS is the biggest question

for next year the best bet is to roll with current QB1 and QB2

Ehlinger isn’t a true viable back up

I think a low investment like a 6th on a QB for developing to be our QB2 of the future is a good move

True but.may not play out.that way.

I think there's a decent chance.minshew will be with another team and Ehrlinger will be the #2.

  3. This thread shouldn't be Bradley vs venturi's past record......remember venturi was around the colts in the 80's and no one including the great Lombardi would have had success in that era with the colts. And if a losing record is what defines a persons worth in football,  then what about Ballard's? haha

But many here wanted Bradley fired the last two seasons but now know that won't happen because Steinchen said he wants continuity. So your stuck with him..

And Bradley has been criticized by others in local and national. Questioning, because of injury, the Texans only had one healthy good WR playing and he didn't scheme a strategy to not let him beat them.....but he did beat them. A 75 yard bomb on their first play and then repeatedly throughout the game.

Some of that is on Bradley.... some is on.Ballard for not giving him more talent to see what he does with it.....and some is on Steinchen, as HC, he could have.said.something like "don't let their only healthy quality receiver beat us!"

But maybe he was too busy designing a play for a practice squad player with the season on the line!!! :funny:

Steichen and Bradley spent four seasons together with the Chargers and know each other well.

“Like I said, I believe in continuity,” Steichen said. “I’ve got a ton of confidence in Gus.”

When he was asked about Bradley’s performance during the season, Steichen sounded confident in Bradley’s performance, given some of the personnel changes he faced.

“He’s done a good job,” Steichen said on New Year’s Day. “Shoot, there’s been moving parts on the defense. The d-line has done a heck of a job, obviously, getting all the sacks that we’ve had — credit to him with the pass rush stuff.”

Just what the fan base wanted to hear :funny:

Those are BELOW mediocre results. Today's game is made of aggressive gms looking for quick turnarounds or all in types trying to hold that Lombardi. Of course there are teams in general that are not really trying to win due to cheap owners or inept front offices. We fall somewhere in between. Ballard has been very methodical in his slow long term approach . Safe low cost moves in FA (outside Buckner) and he has been SOLID but NOT exceptional overall in the draft. Stands pat but mostly trades down to aquire more LOWER rd picks while searching for that diamond in the rough.

I don't know how many more years that Ballard has to turn this team into SB contention but he seems to have a limited ceiling with his 80's team build formula which is okay if you're simply satisfied with having a respectable team. The division has gotten tougher and the Colts are NOT dominant on EITHER side of the ball. A change is needed at dc but Gus is Ballard’s guy so we'll see how that plays out. Hopefully AR can stay healthy because I think he can become special but if he can't one can ONLY wonder what Stroud or soon to be 2 time league MVP Lamar Jackson would have looked like being paired with Steichen while wearing the Shoe...

Maybe a New Mandela Effect will take Ballard and the colts in a time line where they still play '80s football. .....something to hope for at least :funny:

Time to get rid of Ballard IMO. Another choke job with the playoffs on the line. You can either say the team wasn't good enough, and that's Ballards fault after 7 years, or that the team choked, and that's on Steichen (who Ballard hired). Amazing that we were 1 game away from the playoffs, suffered a heartbreaking loss again, and people are happy with the season.

Literally every fan should be writing in to Irsay to fire Ballard. I want a Fire Ballard banner over Lucas Oil Stadium.

To the Bolded, that's mostly fans that have low expectations from this mostly historical losing franchise AND competing for a playoff spot is great for them compared to the very low win seasons from the past.

I swear some people would moan after winning the lottery but had to share it with another person.

I don't know about winning the lottery, but making the playoffs would have been nice. LoL

Dont worry were now going into year 8 of his 13 year plan to win the division. Were getting close.

Yeah, but don't some here say that his first season didn't start the first season? Has his first season even started yet???

I think even his biggest supporters will have to say his first season started with his coach he picked in Steinchen?

So that means 2023 and 13 year plan ends 2035. :cheer2:

Yeah. On with the next pick, Ballard was super nervous about a trade up at 3. I was assuming at the time, that it was a trade up from a team like the Raiders or Titans. I don't think we were thinking about the Vikings being that team as the series never mentioned them. However, as you said, Ballard probably knew about it, and was excited when it was the Texans trading up after they already took Stroud.

    I seen that video.

It showed just how thrifty Ballard and the colts are.. Wanted and coveted AR5 so much and didn't want him to be a superstar with some other team BUT still too cheap to make a deal to move up a pick or two to finally get the most important position in sports which they have suffered at since luck retired on them. But fortunately it worked out and he was there for them and they kept their picks too.

    That was too risky imo.

The caption on this is wrong though. Can’t trade 5 future first round picks. But looks like they tried to trade with Arizona.

That's highly unlikely. The Vikings aren't that kind of team to desparetly try to do something like that. They shipped Cook out and can't wait to move on from Cousins.

“Steichen PURPOSELY made the season come down on one play” ?!?!?!?

    What the Hell?!?

Among your many conspiracy theories, this is an ALL-TIMER for you.

    Dear God….

No, it wasn't a conspiracy theory..... at least I don't think so. But the results were par for the course for this franchise......weren't they?

But if you want to go the conspiracy route(which I wasn't) at the end of the day, the colts are out AND the Steelers are in......again...and again....and again and so on.

But, What I meant was he wanted and tried to make that last possession last every bit of about the 7 minutes it started with. He felt he needed to score a TD and kick the extra point with as few seconds left on the clock as possible so Bradley's pass defense wouldn't blow the 1 point lead.....and I didn't blame him for that.

But what I questioned was the play calls and not throwing a bit more on early downs to take advantage of the defensive bias the Texans were playing against the run. AND I sincerely question with the season on the line throwing to a practice squad player.

Delete this. Comparing Steichen/Reich is just wrong and not even close to being true. Frank Reich would've had this Colts team 2-15 at the end of the year.

If frank was the hc this year, he would have been fired mid season...... again ......and again???

You all can tell me how wrong I am, but I am so tired of a coach that can beat the top teams in the NFL during the regular season and then choke last 2 games and fail to make playoffs.  Seriously, ATL and HOU and you can't beat either of them/  ATL looked like they had no game plan and were shocked ATL could actually play football.  We have had this coach the last 5 years.  And what a horrid play call on 4th an 1 with game on the line.  Give to your horse, Taylor.  Same Colts.  Same coach.  Same lame calls. .

    He's not a Reich but HE's NOT ELITE(maybe he'll get better?) either.

Too many games colts and coaches didn't show up which cost them the Division and now staying home. Roster not great either

I don't understand why people are blaming steichen. The only mistake I see is wasting a timeout at the end.

Play call was fine. Bad execution by a backup QB and a practice squad running back.

They should have passed more at the end with Houston expecting and playing run.

Steinchen purposely made the season come down on one play. Colts could have.and should have been closer with multiple plays/chances to win AND not come down to one pass to a practice squad player!!!

I'll be saying this in multiple threads:

To any Colts fans going to the game tonight, make sure you tell your fellow Colts brethren about how CJ Stroud of the Texans called our capital city weak.

Just some extra motivation for blowing our vocals out tonight. I'll be sounding like a 90's screamo thrasher vocalist every time that man steps out on the field.

....and to any Colt  Defensive player that gets close enough to put a hurtin on him. .......and I'm 1,100 miles away from Indy.
