  1. I was country, when country wasn't cool! :)

    That's what my mom says

She has no tolerance for newcomers to cowboy boots. She's always worn them........and looked hot wearing them! And she can linedance circles around most!

Speaking of which I was at a concert a couple of days ago and saw that linedancing has come back as "cool'..........it is now 'wiggle'

  2. True. I guess it differs from person to person as most things do on the nature of people speaking exactly what is on their minds or not. I like to know a person and what they really think about things as well, but sometimes it is not worth the trouble. Some people have really twisted views on things and me knowing such things from people I know and respect would definitely be a deterrent. This world we live in is growing more and more PC and I don't think that it is necessarily a bad thing. A lot of feelings can get hurt, and we have all sorts of issues that pop up due to people speaking their minds. But you are right...the best way to know a person's views is if they are blunt and straightforward.

I don't mean blunt.........which can cause hurt feelings..........such as when someone yells "hey you're fat or you're ugly"

But I do mean straigtforward and not pretending to be someone you are not..........or hiding who you really are..

Too many weasels running around in the world

I don't mind PC, but I also don't mind a lot of the things non PC people say........unless it's hateful........and even then, at least I know who they are.

And not all of us are as cool as others.  But cool people can also be terrible people.

  3. Yeah, I usually am more level-headed but there are three or so posters here that can make Dr. Jekyll turn into Mr. Hyde lol. Good example man, but I don't like Cuban either haha I do applaud him for being different and speaking out like he does, something that isn't expected out of owners. There is nothing wrong with being different, as long as you aren't demeaning yourself or others, be it intentionally or unintentionally.

I wasn't aware of Red McCombs until now, but I did a quick google search and yeah, guy seems like a spaz. Not exactly sure what he meant by what he said about Strong, who is a great coach, but I hope it isn't what my initial assumption was.

While people feel they can judge those of us who are who we are........and maybe not as slick as others........ they pass no such judgement on those who remain in the background.............while those guys might not be so great.

I've known a lot of people who say one thing and mean another.........who say what they feel is the popular thing to say.........and then turn around and say something completely opposite.......it all depends on who they are with.

I have an inherent distrust of people with very different public and private facing personnas.

For me, that's far worse than not passing somebody's opinion on how you should carry yourself.........and whether or not they approve.

People are so superficial.  I generally prefer real.............unless it is racist, sexist, violent or criminal thatis.  And even then........at least what you see is what you get.

  4. Thank you!!

In a previous post today, someone mentioned that they often pay for someone's food in a drive-through.  Guess what?  My wife went to Burger King today and someone in front of her paid for her lunch.  How ironic is that? :)

That happened to me at Starbucks

I don't usually go there but, one morning I decided I would (it's pretty pricey)......anyway, I'm standing in line and the guy in front of me places his order and then turns to me and asks "What do you want? I'm buying"

And he bought my Americano just like that.

I guess this is a thing so,when it happens to you, you pay it forward

  5. I agree with you.

I think leaving the old mascot behind would be best during a move, not only because it allows a city to keep it's old mascot but also because it allows to new city to pick a mascot that is appropriate for that city.  I don't want to change the Colt's name or mascot at this point because like you said, it's been too long.  But the Colts was a mascot for Baltimore because of the horse racing facilities in the area.  It's not really appropriate for Indiana or Indianapolis.

On the ownership I also agree with you, that would make the whole thing more fun and prevent teams from leaving. I'm not sure what happens to the Packer's profits since they don't distribute it to share holders.  My guess is they likely bank it and use it later on for stadium renovations and the like along with selling shares of the team.  And if that's true the other big positive aspect of that is that the profits that the NFL team makes get's sent back into the community.

Of course the problem is that ultimately the view of the NFL in general is that what's the point of all of this if a rich guy can't make a ton of money off of it?

I don't know, there's no bears in chicago or lions in Detroit.

There are horses everywhere.........including here.  i drive by horses on my way to walmart.  So Colts works fine here.

But I can see if a name is really tied to the area that it makes sense to change it......

Generally though I think that's the call of the owner.  It's his and it's up to him to decide what will work and what won't.

Times have changed though and the NFL is so big now that I would not be at all surprised to see a name change.

I mean when people are still talking about wanting the name colts even though they are over the moon about their new name and their new team.......you can see where it would be a nice thing to avoid.

  6. And NCF clearly disagrees with you. There are many Colt fans who are embarrassed by Irsay's actions .

Again another perspective from another non colts fan.  Yes some colts fans are critcal......but percentage wise non colts fans are more critical and come here seeing themselves as the most objective person to make these calls

I'm here every day and I live in Indy.  So I do have a closer perspective of local perceptions.

Media loves to criticize and so do non fans.

  7. Irsay could safely follow the "But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing" principle.

There are so many owners and so many players that help out a lot but they prefer to keep it quiet for most of the time. This is no different than Lebron James giving to the Boys and Girls Club in a "look at me, I'm generous" fashion. It may not be what Irsay and Lebron publicly hoped for but that will end up being the perception most of the time if you do it that way. The twitter giveaways are public enough for Irsay to get his popularity, this one was a tad over the top. He can easily find ways to get it to the needy without making a public spectacle of it. I agree that his intentions may be right but not the medium, and the timing of it doesn't help either.  :2c:

I think it was just a matter of.......he was there and the fans were there and he wanted to have some fun with the fans.  I saw Jim Irsay talk to the Quest for the Ring contestants (something else that he did for fun) and what he said really resonated with me.  He's a fan.......and he said everyone in the organization begins and ends a fan........coaches, players.......everyone.  He feels a connection with fans.  He genuinely likes fans.

And i'm sure they all had fun

And now the critics are having fun

  8. I heard the news and thought it was awesome.  I know if I had billions of dollars I would give a ton of it away.

I would love to stay in a pharmacy one day and see how many elderly men and women go up and cannot afford their prescriptions.  I would pay for any of them and also anybody else that gets turned away.  I have actually done this one time with an elderly woman.  I felt soooo good after seeing how grateful she was.

BTW...I wish I had been to Colts Camp getting 100 bucks :)

    me too

Around my house we call that 'slush fund' money.  You can do whatever you want with it........don't have to pay bills with it!

  9. Sure I get that but Irsay gives fuel to the criticism is my point.

And mine is people love Dirty Laundry

.(Kick 'em when they're up, kick 'em when they're down)
(Kick 'em when they're up, kick 'em when they're down)
(Kick 'em when they're up, kick 'em when they're down)
(Kick 'em when they're stiff, kick 'em all around)

  10. Had a lot to get off your chest, huh? ;)   I didn't say that I was critical of him or him choosing to give away money. I actually like Irsay and the only time I ever really came down on him was his comments about Manning prior to the Colts/Denver game last year.

I just think you guys spend a lot of time discussing him because his actions are a bit out there. Does not make him a bad guy at all. Like I said, just an observation.

And my observation is that we react to criticism.  Sorry but we're not gonna let that sort of thing go.  That's not how we roll

  11. not saying it isnt. im just not a fan of overpopulating a state with teams just because its a big market

Yeah it's weird that some states have more than one team and others don't have any.  I guess the sun attracts people and teams.

Anyway, when I heard San Antonio I thought of two things.........how much fun a super bowl would be there and also how there is no basement in the Alamo

Did you know that San Antonio is the 7th most populous city in the country?

Also, Jerry Jones considers San Antonio part of his market so..........maybe this won't happen

  12. Just an observation but Colts fans sure have to spend a lot of time defending their owner's kooky actions. The number of threads on him alone this  past year would dwarf any other teams site for their respective owner.

Just an observation but I think that fans of other teams spend a lot of time on the colts website criticizing their owner.

As far as the money........that's just him. He does it for fun.  Have you ever given things away?  IT IS FUN.

And that's all it is.  He doesn't need to buy fans.......they already like him.

As far as how it looks to everyone else..........we just don't care.

It reminds me of how fans of other teams were highly criticle of the tribute to manning when he came back. And no matter how much we told you that, that is just how we do it here.........you still had hateful things to say about it.

So, I guess you all will continue to criticize and we'll continue to tell you what we think.

It's all good here.  We are different, our owner is different.........and that's fine with us.

  13. I won't lie Nadine. SW1 had a good laugh over that line. Thank you. :hat: We can all depart for a moment so you can daydream about Jeff's mesmerizing stare if that helps you. Just Kidding!

In all fairness to you, I get all "weak in the knees" when actress Zoe Saldana smiles so we all have our romantic crushes from afar.

Don't sweat it Nadine. We are all guilty of it in 1 celebrity or another. :P

Not sweating it just telling it like it is

The man has eyes for days

No weakness in my knees. At all

No crush, just his eyes are exceptional

  14. This hashtag thing (#) makes me want to kill my pets out of pure spite for all living things whom burden me with their fancies and conventions in which they poke and prod at me to participate in. I implore you, fellow mankind, cease this fad henceforth or doomed be us all.

    Nope

    I enjoy hashtags
