  1. This is exactly why I cant stand analytics. My idea of good is someone who actually produces results. Everyone misses tackles, because its very hard to tackle a professional athlete 1 on 1, a position hes in constantly because he plays in open space against incredible athletes. And the more plays you are involved in, the more youll miss. By your calculations there, he couldve made over 200 tackles that season. Thats an insane number that has only been produced twice in the history of the league. Just the fact he was in a position to do that, is incredible. And youre essentially rewarding lesser players who arent good enough to put themselves in that kind of position and making them look better by suggesting them missing less tackles means they are better players. In reality, they just arent very good a lot of times. To me this is like looking at the NBA and suggesting Magic Johnson wasnt that good because he led the league in turnovers almost every year. An argument Ive heard many times. But when you look at the list of players who turned the ball over the most, its a list of the best players of all time. The best players.make the most mistakes because they do the hardest job. They expect to do things other athletes cant even get into position to do. Anybody can avoid missing a tackle by not putting themselves in position to make the tackle in the first place. Thats not a sign of greatness.
  2. I put very little stock into those kinds of stats.
  3. I think we need someone to just make open field tackles, as simple as that sounds. I felt like our secondary was pretty poor at just simply getting guys to the ground. There is way too much diving at peoples legs in the open field. And Budda might be the best open field tackler in all of football. The guy is a demon. He had like 150 tackles a few years back as a safety, which is incredible. Budda is the closest thing to Bob Sanders I have seen since he retired. He doesnt lay the huge hits Bob did (to be fair Bob was juiced to the gills and a literal tank). But I mean, that heat seeking missle type of guy who just ends plays with picture perfect pursuit and tackling of the ball carrier. I believe in tackling being the most overlooked skill in football. People dont seem to see the value in it, or know how to do it. but it is a lot of times what seperates really bad defenses from good defenses. I felt like we gave up like 1000 extra yards last year due to poor tackling. I actually used to teach heads up tackling at football camps, so its a bit of a sore spot with me. But I see a lot of horrible tackling around the league. Also, Blackmon is our ballhawking free safety in this scenario. I know a lot of people see him as more of a SS, but not me. I dont think he is top tier at it, but he is solid at both spots, and solid is fine with me.
  4. He has played both at different points in his career. I think Baker and Blackmon would be one of the better duos in the league.
  5. Im not comparimg anyone to the legion of boom. The more talent you have, the more options you have when calling the game. The addition of Baker would simply give us more flexibility in coverage, and thats a good thing.
  6. But those players cant do the job as well as Baker. The entire idea is to put the best team out there you can. The money isnt an issue really. We have it.
  7. Budda would be the ultimate cherry on top. He would fill that Earl Thomas role in this defense perfectly. Great idea.
  8. This was a hell of a get for us. I feel like Mitchell has as high a ceiling as anybody in the draft, including MHJ. He has size, elite speed, great hands and is silky smooth in his routes. If he can refine his route running a bit, and find some consistency, look out. I think he is a tad bit immature, but he is coming into an excellent situation. To have a mentor like Reggie Wayne and an example like Pitt.......if he is a good kid with a solid head on his shoulders, he could be one of the top receivers in football with some good QB play. For all this talk about our recievers, I think we might have the most talented group with the most upside in the division. On Goncalves, I cant help but wonder if the plan is for him to challenge Fries this year with an eye on potentially replacing Kelly at some point. Ballard mentioned him playing center, which I found odd because hes never played there. He certainly has the feet. Anyways, I like that pick as well. To get a guy you feelclike could play any position on the line is huge. We have excellent depth at DL, OL and WR.
  9. Paye hasnt even had a year 4 yet. His first 3 years are WAY better than Hendricksons first 3 years.
  10. Are you comparing Paye to Hendrickson who is in year 8? Thats just not fair to Kwity. You need to allow guys time to develop. Ebukam is a guy they are probably gonna let walk after this year. Buck isnt getting any younger. There is plenty of room for all these guys. I think the plan is for Paye, Dayo and Latu to be the core of this defensive line for a long time.
  11. Or maybe you just have unrealistic expectations? He is entering his 4th year. He has gotten better every year. He should continue to get better. A guy who put up 16.5 sacks last year, Trey Hendrickson, had only 6.5 sacks over his first 3 seasons combined. Kwity has 3 times that many. Hes been very good. People have to stop expecting guys to make the HOF in their early 20s.
  12. You have to be in the top 20 to be good enough?
  13. I admit, I didnt read his previous posts. I get so comfused as to why so many people just seem to have no interest in finding a positive thing to say, like ever.
  14. Yeah no doubt. We had 4 guys in the top 37 in sacks last year, which means they are in the top 1/3 of all starting DL, league wide, in sacks. And 2 of those guys people are calling "misses" Make it make sense......
  15. Kwity Paye and Dayo Odeyingbo are both very good football players. Whats wrong with having a great defensive line with tons of quality depth?
  16. Not sure why you feel that way. We had a low ranked defense. We did not have much trouble scoring points with a back up QB.
  17. Like the pick quite a bit. This guy has top level pass rushing traits and to get a guy like that at 15 is rare. The Colts could have a truly elite DL. They seem to have it all, including great depth at every position.
  18. The Colts were pretty much in the middle of the pack in every major category for pass defense last year. Considering their inexperience, I dont think its fair to call them horrendous. Darrell Baker Jr was pretty bad at times, but I thought they played pretty well most of the time, all things considered. They should make a major jump this year.
  19. Thats not what I said. I said there are other ways to improve the defense other than letting your better players on defense (Moore, Stewart, Franklin) walk, only to replace them with guys who arent any better. Different doesnt mean better.
  20. But the team more than doubled its win total last year and didnt do any of the things you suggest to improve the team. So maybe there are better ways to improve the team? So again, I will say that maybe what you are suggesting sounds better than it really is. You all are so quick to throw in the towel every single year and get frustrated. This is after 1 promising year with a new coaching staff. Good grief man take a pill.
  21. All Ive heard is that we need to sign all these guys off other bad teams and magically our team will be better. But if they were really difference makers why were, in most cases, their teams worse than ours? I just think you massively over rate these guys and under rate our own guys. I dont think anything you are suggesting would work.
  22. Hows he gonna make our pass rush special sharing snaps with Ebukam, Paye, Lewis, Odeyingbo? He is a situational rusher. He is a good one, but thats all he is. And he would be very redundant with Paye and Ebukam here.
  23. I feel like this entire situation pretty much sums up a lot of the reaction to the Colts every single year. The media makes a bunch of nonsense up because they need you to pay attention to them or they are gonna have to go get a real job and actually be productive citizens, and the fans get mad when the Colts actions dont match the rumors. Turns out Ballard wasnt chasing Sneed at all. Im a little dissapointed because I thought we could have a really good secondary with him coming in. But Ill get over it.
