  1. i don't know how anyone can defend the offensive lines performance last year....there is a reason the colts used there first two draft picks on that unit.

There is a reason. CJ was not on the team. Nobody thought AC would still be there, the Colts needed improved guard play for a year or two and then someone to move to RT after Diem retired or was let go.
and to use the average yards per carry from addai/hart as examples of good blocking seems to be cherry picking....hart only had 43 carries and addai only had 116. plus, if i remember right, addai had two of his biggest games against teams that were practically begging the colts to run the ball.
How is it any more cherry picking than using Brown (129 carries) and J. James(46). Do you really think 16 carries makes that big a difference? And no, Addai did not have two games that skewed his ypc.

    Jax - 4.4

    NYG - 4.6

    DEN - 2.2

    JAC - 3.9

    KC - 2.7

    WAS - 7.5

    OAK - 3.8

    Ten - 4.0

    Jets - 4.8

In the NFL those are pretty consistent numbers.

  2. Brown's a good back but he needs a whole to run through. We should be able to give him that now.

I agree and I will explain more at the end
Our problem has not been our backs at all the past few years. Our OL has been one of the least athletic run blocking lines in the NFL for quite some time now.
I disagree with this. Both Addai and Hart averaged 4.3 ypc last year. There were ups and downs as will happen especially when it's a different line from the year before. But overall the run blocking was good (not great or anything but good). The reason the Colts didn't rank higher in rushing yards per game is because a.) very few rushing attempts and b) injuries to Addai and Hart and c) having J. James get more than one carry (although he was good within the 5)
Last year the pass blocking fell to crap as well and we hit a wall where we couldn’t do didley poo.

And yet they were still, far and away, the best pass blocking line in the NFL.

Peyton had two seconds to get the ball off

That is just not true and has been discussed on this forum.
and our backs earned ever yard they gained. Many times our backs were hit in the backfield just after getting the ball. Just absolutely no holes to run through on a consistent basis.
That's not true either. The Colts had 40 negative running plays The were actually 31st in the league (2nd best) with negative plays to the left. 5th in center and 9th to the right. Can be improved but much better than your comment would suggest.

We ran the ball better at the end of last season because Peyton caught defenses off guard by audibling to runs at unexpected times.

I actually tracked this during the year and 67% of the time Manning called a run on 1st and 10 (but not the 1st play of a drive). So it wasn't that Manning was calling an audible at unexpected times, Manning quit being so predictable with his run calls.

I know a lot of people like to give Brown a hard time because he was a first round pick and he should be producing at a very high level, but in my opinion, Marshall Faulk in his prime would have a tough time being successful running the ball the past few years on this team. And I think Faulk is the greatest all around RB of all-time.

Now I am not making excuses for Brown as this is just the reality of the situation. When our line improves, if he doesn’t improve then he deserves the criticism. Just how I see things anyway.

I think Brown has talent, I just don't think he's a good fit for a zone blocking team. Brown needs to be in a system where the run is called to a hole and Brown will hit that hole and he's very good at making people miss on the 2nd level. What Brown is not good at, and why he is not good for a zone blocking team, is anticipating where the hole will open and then getting to that spot. But in a zone blocking scheme a run at the LG, the hole could be anywhere from the middle of the LT to the left shoulder of the center depending on how the D lines up. He just lacks that ability to see it developing.

So I don't think there is really anything wrong with Brown or his running style. I just don't think he's a good fit for the Colts style of play. And it's because of that, if Carter proves to be a capable back-up and one of the undrafted rookies proves worthy of the #3 spot, I will not be shocked if Brown does not make the final 53 man roster or is traded to another team for a 3rd or 4th round pick.

  3. Ok I'm going to preface what I have to say by telling you guys I'm a die-hard Titans fan.

That being said, you are so lucky to have picked up Jake Kirkpatrick. I work for the TCU football team and have worked with Jake everyday over the past three seasons. Trust me, he is a steal. Everyone was shocked he went undrafted and I was DYING for the Titans to pick him up. He is one of the greatest athletes you could ever meet. He is the first to show up and the last to leave. He sets a perfect example both on and off the field. With his talent, work ethic and leadership, I will be surprised if he doesn't have a lengthy and successful career in the NFL. I know this may sound a little biased but his accolades back it up.

So congrats on the great signing and expect GREAT things from your new #64!

I'm not doubting what you are saying I am curious because all I had to go on was scouting reports and he seemed like probably the 4th or 5th center in the draft. Why do you think he was not drafted? He has NFL size, put up pretty good (but not great) numbers at his pro-day. Won the award for best center in the nation his senior year and was one of 6 finalist his junior year (first year as a starter). He's smart, played for a good program that did well. I just could not believe he was not taken on the 3rd day.

In the little bit of film (highlights) that I have seen of him he seems to take good angles, engages well at the point of attack and keeps his feet moving. The downside I've seen is his stance is a little awkward he needs to bend his knees a bit more and sit back on the heels of his feet more so he can get more explosion and pop at the snap and it would also put him in a stronger position once engaged. But because he plays on the balls of his feet and toes he looks like he lacks strength once engaged but I don't think it's a lack of strength it's positioning. But that is coach-able. I think he will be on the practice squad this year and emerge as a primary back-up at center next year.

  4. What makes everyone so certian he couldnt play safety on 3rd and short or goal line situationally and be a special teams all star?

No one but he and the 49ers know the truth of his situation, he may very well be coachable with the right staff, if he does get cut and we can sogn him for minimum or if we can trade nothing for him, a team can never have too many impact sp. Teams players, and we alll know our kick coverage and return teams could use some help!

I don't think the situation has anything to do with his poor play, whether he's coach-able or not, I think it's Harbaugh just wanting to bring in his type of players and trying to purge as many Singletary projects as possible.

Plus Vic Fangio is the new defensive coordinator for SF and we Colts fans know that Fangio does not like his players to be particularly fast or very good at tackling.

  5. Now, I don't think Lacey is a starting quality DB so I'm not defending him much. But it was the play of the day, on what was described as a perfect pass by Painter and there is no defense for a perfect pass. And I can't find the thread but the play going around about Painter drawing Lacey in with the PAP and hitting Garcon for a long completion, from the video posted by the OP, that looked to be a bit more on Bethea than Lacey. When you watch the video, Lacey was going to his zone, he bumped Garcon as he ran by. He never gave any indication that he was supposed to run with Garcon, if he was he would have been turning his hips before the play action took place. Now no one knows if he was supposed to run with Garcon and that is why Bethea was not over there but from watching the Colts D it seems more that Bethea was held in place by the PAP and then was late recovering.

I don't know if it will be the first preseason game but I bet by the 2nd Tryon will be the starter opposite Powers and Thomas will be the primary nickle back.

  6. Here's a summary

    Indianapolis Colts: 85

Peyton Manning drops to a 98 overall in "Madden 12," but the offense is still deadly thanks to weapons that include Dallas Clark (96 overall), Reggie Wayne (95 overall), and Pierre Garcon (95 speed).

  7. That is funny because Polian freely admits that using the plug and chug mindset was wrong when it came to Thornton. He freely admitted that he should have never let Thornton go.

Polian has admitted he wanted to retain Thornton and I remember after a game with the Titans someone called in an asked who was the best LB on the field to which he replied Thornton (who was then with the Titans).

But Thornton was not signed because the Colts dropped the ball, the NFL mis-applied some bonus money on Manning and Harrison's contract. Because of that it showed the top 51 for the Colts were over the salary cap so they could not sign anyone. By the time the Colts got everything straightened out and the proper amount was applied towards the cap, the Colts had cap room but Thornton had already signed with the Titans.

Thornton was a very good football player. He was missed when he left the Colts and he gave the Titans 3 very good years and 1 good year.

  8. I am the only boy in a family of 5 girls so I think I have a good grasp on what women go through. Most likely more than most men want to know lol.

    I'm sorry.

I'm sure it was scary the minute it happened but once the cops came and sorted everything out I'm sure she was fine. Let's not blow it out of proportion like she's haunted by the incident to this very day.

I wasn't making it any more than what it was... a traumatic experience for a woman who was by herself. I was not the one who brought up nightmares, etc.
  9. Isn't this his first day to practice with the team because of the CBA? First day and he gets beat by Allen big deal.

People forget it was his play against Allen that basically cemented his spot as the starting LT the following year.

2008 Ugoh was the starting LT, Colts are playing the Vikes and Allen is chasing Manning all over the place for 2-1/2 quarters. Ugoh get hurt, CJ slides to LT, first play Allen blows by him and pressure's Manning. After than CJ settles down and does a great job against Allen the rest of the game and the Colts complete the 1st of several 4th quarter comebacks that year.

  10. And I'm sure the woman who Pat came up to is still having nightmares about what happened. Very traumatic lol

You are either not married or if you are you don't have any daughters. Trust me, late at night a guy who is not wearing shirt, starts knocking on your car window and trying to get into the car, that is very traumatic.

Guys are different. If that happened to me (or most guys), I probably would have opened the door, let him and driven him home and we would have had a good laugh about it. Women have to worry about being mugged, robbed and/or raped any time they are alone.

  11. If the Colts were to bring in Mays it would be to play WILL not safety. His coverage skills as for a safety are below par. His coverage skills for a LB are pretty good.

His teammate Dashon Goldson, who is going to be released with the signing of Whitner may be worth a look as a solid back-up to Bullitt.

Assuming of course the Colts do not like what they see from Alafava (or however it's spelled)

  12. Exactly, and that was what I was trying to say. McAfee's actions didn't endanger other lives. But Moala's offense was not only worse than Pat's, it was also his second.

Should have made that more clear I suppose lol

Where did you read this is his second? I have not been able to find that anywhere and if it was his second he would have got more than 180 days probation.

Driving under the influence is stupid and I'm not a big fan of drinking alcohol in general but if he is a regular drinker then a 0.1 limit probably didn't impair him much.

McAfee's incident is pretty funny overall, but his wasn't exactly victimless... he scared some woman when he approached her car and wanted to get in. Scared her so much she ran a red light and called the polic.

  13. Two on that list( Collie and Gonzo ) at this time might be liabilities. I hope not, but possible.

It's possible everyone on the Colts team could be a liability if they get injured.

My reply to Jim would be that he has been fortunate to have the likes of Peyton Manning to build a powerhouse around. It's time for him to give some back, the rest of Peyton's tenure Jim should surround him with any and every tool available to cement his legacy!

Wow, you really think you can tell irsay how to spend his money? Plus Irsay would respond that Manning has already cemented his legacy and the chances of Moss increasing that is very small. He had 6 catches in the last 8 games he played.

  14. Irsay downplayed this last week when it came up by saying "why do some people want us to sign Moss? we got Reggie, Austin, Gonzo, and Pierre" and it turned out we had interest but Moss wanted more money then what we wanted to offer

Thats why I think Moss really was at camp today

EDIT: Sorry Coffeedrinker just saw you posted that tweet too while I was posting

Quite alright. Nobody listens to me anyways. :FBcheesy:
