  1. I think people read way too much into UDFA signings. Every team is allowed to have (now) 90 players on their roster for training camp. Every team is going to take full advantage of that. So teams pick players so they can look at them and see if they can make the transition.

It's possible Gilreath could supplant White on the roster, it's just as possible that he Gilreath doesn't last past the first round of cuts.

  2. This the lineup I would like to see to give us the best chance for greatness along the OL for years to come...

LT Anthony Costanzo (Hope he can use his competiveness and drive to make him one of the better LTs in the game)

LG Ben Ijalana (I really believe his best fit is at OG right now and he reminds me of a Jahri Evans type player)

OC Mike Pollak (Saturday is getting old and this is Pollak's natural position. He has improved as of late and would like to see him here)

RG Jaques McClendon (He has the talent to be a dominating OG so hopefully Polian is right in his assesment in starting this year at OG)

RT Charlie Johnson (He could be eventually replaced by Ijalana at RT but stays here allowing us to see how dominating of a OG Ijalana can be and maybe he stays there at OG)

    Your thoughts?

    My thoughts are:

1.) It is not a good idea to have two rookies starting on the blindside.

2.) It is not a good idea to have a line in which every position is filled by a different player than the year before.

3.) Saturday is getting to the end of his career but, based on his play last year, he still has another 2 or 3 years left.

4.) Until he gets some camp time I'm not ready to put a rookie in at LT.

I see a line up like CJ (assuming he's signed but I can see them rotating AC in early in the season), McClendon (perhaps Ben), Saturday, Pollack, Diem (maybe they start AC here to get him experience and a slightly less critical position and then move him to LT his 2nd year).

Polian last year was very critical of the interior of the line, so I could see two new starting guards but I think Pollack will still win out one guard spot. McClendon does have talent and it's not because of his bench, but it's from comments Polian has made plus watching him in college, he is quick off the snap, gets in good position and blocks well on the move at the 2nd level.

But people want to talk about how bad the line was but yet they gave up the fewest sacks per pass attempt, fewest pressure per pass attempt, one of the least penalized lines in the NFL and the starting RB (Addai) and primary back-up (Hart) both averaged 4.5 yards per carry. The line was not as bad as many want to portray.

  3. I wouldn't mind seeing the Colts sign Ian Williams, DT from ND. He won't do much in 2011 because he's coming off an MCL injury but in 2012 he could easily become the Colts starting NT, imagine Mookie ability for an entire game rather than 3 or 4 plays, a quarter of rest and then 3 or 4 more plays. A rotation of Moala, Nevis and Williams would be a formidable interior of the dline.

Jake Kirkpatrick, C, TCU is another player with ability but with a logjam at back-up center/starting center is already pretty deep with Pollack, Richard and McClendon I don't know if the Colts will sign another developmental center project.

  4. A CBA can't be agreed to by one side. It's not a CBA until the players reform as a union and vote to ratify the agreement. Until then, the lockout continues, per the owners terms.

I don't think you understood my question. The owners instituted the lock-out. The owners have now lifted the lock-out based on the CBA of which they agree. And they have stated the facilities are open. If the players don't like the CBA and therefore do not report to the facility, isn't that a player strike rather than an owner lock-out?

  5. i feel that the colys should go out and find a veteran QB to back up PEYTON JUS IN CASE HE IS NOT READY FOR THE OPENING GAME. KOLB WILL BE A GOOD FIT FOR THE COLTS.SO I HOPE IRSAY WILL LISTED TO THE FANS AND GO GET A QUALITY BACK UP QB

Kolb wants to go somewhere to be the starter. He is not a good fit for the Colts. Also, I am thankful every day that Irsay and Polian do not listen to the fans, and I hope that continues.

  6. I don't think Jim actually knows. There has been no communication allowed between team personnel and players whatsoever.

So, I think what he is saying is that, he was fine before, I expect he'll be fine now.

Probably true but, be nice to hear from the team doc

A while ago, I remember reading that teams were allowed to discuss things with doctors regarding player's health. So I am sure that Manning is keeping Irsay up-to-date on his status through his doctor.

Also I don't believe for a minute that most coaches, GMs, and involved owners are not in regular contact with their marquee players. They may have to send a text through a couple of other people first but I bet they can get it done.

  7. yea thats unfortunate but i like conner, hes a tackling machine

Conner proved to be a great run stopping LB last year but he needs to work on his pass coverage. He seems a bit stiff to where I think he may be better suited to play SAM in the Colts D rather than the WILL position he played last year. But I was very impressed with his speed, reaction and tackling technique.

Angerer was also impressive. He was not as good as Conner at reading the play and flowing (that will come with more experience) but he was much faster and more fluid that I was expecting.

This is not directed so much at you Cannon but just on the thread. What is with all the knocking on Hughes. He played behind two probowl DEs who did not miss many snaps. When he was in the game he played well. When he got a significant amount of playing time in the 2nd Houston game when Mathis missed a couple of quarters with an injury he played extremely well against both the run and the pass and was the only defender who quickly recognized and defended against the naked bootleg Houston runs so much.

    Break-out years

Nevis - rookie DT - by mid season there are going to be questions raised on why this guy was not a first rounder.

Collie - Before his first concussion last year he was leading the NFL in receptions and 1st down receptions, 2nd in yards and (if I remember correctly) tied for first in TDs. I see that production continuing this year.

Mike Pollack - Improved all year at guard and the Colts showed the world what really bad guard play looks like when they took Pollack out in favor of Link.

McClendon - I think he will move into the starting LG spot and absolutely maul just about all DTs that line up against him. Smart, strong and quick is a good combination.
