    Classic.  Just classic.

Kiper still adamantly claims that he was right, as Trent Dilfer was a super bowl winning qb...with his 2nd team..and we all know that it was his 12-25 153 yards that put the Ravens over the top in that SB that Baltimore won 34-7!

No one can argue that Alberts didn't end up a bust(and was a complete jerk) but any hindsight of that draft says the Colts mistake was not taking Bryant Young, Aaron Glenn, or Sam Adams in that 4 slot.

Bill Tobin brought an immediate turnaround for this franchise. His biggest mistake wasn't passing on Dilfer, but firing Ted Marchibroda.

Like any company, it's hard to evaluate the contributions of one person, or even one department, due to the internal power structures. We don't really know how the scouting department performs in the context of the Colt's winning and losing record. I suspect, however, that there are certain people in the organization like Wally from Dilbert - people that at best don't do anything and at worst hinder the performance of competent people. All you can say is that certain people, like Grigson and Reich IMO,  Luck's untimely retirement, and Jim Irsay's understandable histrionics, damaged the Colts in ways that can't be ignored. A large number of people, perhaps like our scouting department, didn't inform the others in the front office (at least loud enough) to see the effects it was having on the Colts place in the greater football community. It's not just losing a locker room, it is losing faith in the whole organization.

I've seen this kind of problem ruin companies.

The good news is that even if the team has a Wally, they can still produce the Gruntmaster 6000

And for some reason Ballard will get a pass while the coach and AR will be the ones who feel the heat and are expected to win games against teams with more talent. I'm convinced now that Ballard knows how to identify the teams' short comings but has no idea how to acquire players to fix those short comings. He's too worried about the Lockeroom and what other players may think instead of understanding that our players will welcome players in that can help them win. This was a critical offseason for the entire franchise and Ballard sat idle and watched the rest of the division get better. Again, we will go into the season expecting our help to come from the draft and he just doesn't draft well enough for that to happen. After 7 years people, there is a pattern here that clearly doesn't work in today's NFL and if he didn't get aggressive this offseason, he never will. I'm done with the "my fault " crap after every season because he knows he won't be held accountable. I will always support the Colts but Ballard has to go.

I give no slack for Ballard but in this case I dont think going heavy in this free agency market would have been right. For one, with the cap spike, teams had a lot of money to throw around and, for example purposes only, getting into a bidding war for someone like Curtis Samuel was not the right move.

Not sure why YardBarker needs to be marginalized.

In general I agree. Fans tend to associate the merits of an analyst(regardless of whether they work for a large media outlet or run their own site) by how their team is rated.

But I would disagree with one point of YardBarker's assessment. He's determined that being idle is equal to signing your own players and that's not correct at all. Idle would be if the Colts had signed no one, not even their own players. And if he is determining that being idle is not adding new players, it would mean that he ignores the benefits of continuity.

None of us disagree that the team needs to improve in lots of areas, but I think that what @smittywerb said fits Ballard's pattern: he is going to go after cheaper vets later, especially once all the mad money from the cap spike runs out.

Higgins is a great receiver. And I don’t see Mike Brown trading him. Once Brown decides something, he rarely changes his mind.

Agree. Know a lot of Bengals fans and they feel like, at the minimum, he'll be there for the tag. Cincy's offense is based on their 3 receiver attack and to drop Higgins and bring in an unknown seems unlikely.

I wouldnt touch THAT high cap either, and it would have to be addressed as part of a trade which other teams seem to do.

We need a DE......  First choice are D Hunter or Huff

But if that doesnt happen......  I would try to work a reasonable deal for Bosa

I think if I felt the Colts were missing 1 piece(a great rush defensive end) from getting to the super bowl, I would do it. But we're not there yet. And as Zoltan pointed out, that amount of games missed with his salary makes it impossible to say yes.

Is that a complete list? Glad to see Mike Peterson on the list, one of my all time favorite Colts. Still don't understand how Polian didn't think he was good enough to be resigned. Great player. Where's Eugene Daniel and Ray Buchanan?

It is really difficult for corners to get in. I think there are only 19 corners in the HoF (out of 36 total DB's) and out of that 19, 11 started their career prior to 1980. Eugene and Ray both have some pretty good interception numbers, but not HoF level.

    lol Jeff George

Amazing that his name would be put out there, isn't it!

Just under 28K yards in 12 seasons, he would have needed another 10k yards to be in real consideration and he was a pariah everywhere he went.

OK, here's an interesting question... would you give an extra 1st for one of them? Lets say Nabers or MHJ falls to 6(right ahead of the Titans)? Do you go get him? I'm usually against trading up for anything but QB but... I would be very tempted...

Wow that would be tough. As a rule I'm not ever in favor of giving up a future 1st. It is so incredibly valuable and we've seen so many times where that has severely blown up in a team's face(Houston for example has been on the giving and receiving end of that in recent history).

You would need absolute faith in Richardson as well. Not only that he would be healthy for the overwhelming majority of games next year but also that he would be a top 10 qb.

I think if Ballard actually did trade 2 1sts to move up for a receiver I would probably die of a heart attack!

I have at least 5 guys that the Colts could pick and I would be happy

If we stay put at 15

    Bowers, Latu, or Dallas Turner

If we trade back 3-5 spots

    Brian Thomas,

If we trade back 6 -10 spots

AD Mitchell, Kinchens, Q Mitchell or Tyler Nubin

    I dont want Keon Coleman

This team needs a playmaking FS more than a CB  IMHO

This team needs an explosive Edge rusher more than any other position on this team

I think with each draft you have definitive talent groups in each round. Again we are really early in this process but I would say right now after pick 10 your next talent group is 11-25(all depending on how the picks go). To back your point there are several players to be happy with either staying at 15 or dropping down even to 25.

Whelp did the rounds on social media and people are definitely saying this now, lots of them.

I think its a perception issue, as time passes what is happening now seems more relevant than what occurred in the past.

Dolphins fans used to HATE anyone mentioning that Manning was on pace to break Marino's passing records. On long gone message boards it was all "He will never be mentioned in the same breath as Marino!"
