  1. you obvisouly havent watch enough games of luck if thats all you see. you wanna play what if fine, what if luck turns out be the next great qb and instead of having great qb play for the next 15 years, we get killed by him everytime we play him and if you think peyton can play til hes 40 with neck surgury your insane

Do some research this surgery would make it stronger when he comes back, so Peytons been playin hurt for so long, now that he's healthy sounds even more scary. but like I said if we used 8 picks(1st and 2nd rd) over the next 2 years on a olinemen, maybe a WR, then rest on defense, I would be willing to take my chances.
  2. do you even watch andrew luck play? this guy doesnt need to be hyped hes the real deal. you wanna win for 4 years fine. ill take 15

I wanna win Now and personally I think Peyton could play longer then 4 years if his neck is completely healthy. Plus u wanna speak up, then answer this what do we do if lucks a average QB? So we have no Peyton, a horrid defense, and average offense. What? hope our division opponents blow their team up too and we can be like the NFC west of the past. Sneak into the playoffs at 7-9. Yes I've watched luck play, I saw him take a snap once kneel down tie his cleat, pop back up and throw to his open RB in the flats. But on a real note I've seen him make a lot of the check down throws, and also doesn't he have like a 6'6" WR seen him throw a lot of jump balls. That's not happening on this team.
  3. I was firmly in the trade the pick camp for most of the year, but no more. Take a second to remember Schlichter, Pagel, Trudeau, George, Chandler, and Dan O and Painter this year.... Or the teams that chase the likes of McNabb, Hassleback, Grossman, Collins or whatever vet who they hope will carry the day ..... This is a QB league, you take the QB. Could it fail? Sure. But when lucky enough to have a chance at the highest graded QB in three decades, you don't pick a CB or WR or T, even two of those. After all Manning has done for this franchise, I am surprised anyone who watched what that meant could consider passing on the prospect graded by most higher than Manning when he left school. No other player in this draft is talked about as a once in a decade kind of player. Could the experts all be horribly wrong? Yep. But you don't trade a QB for any other position. No more important position in all of sports.

I bet if you says this to the ravens they would have a different story for you. Plus we take him and release Peyton. Where does that leave us in luck gets hurt? A team built around the QB scoring a lot of points so our pass rush deffense can get to the opposing QB. The opponents won't have to pass if we can't hang 30 on them which in turn would render our defense useless. Like this year, except it would be every year, and bythe time we get enough pieces around him, he would already be half way out the door.
  4. Then he must have been TRYING to lose this season too - I think that you've finally uncovered the secret to all the Colts problems. Lets get a coach that wants to win! I think I'll call Irsay's office first thing tomorrow.

No idea why you are referrencing Herm Edwards. But it is hilarious finding myself in a Colts forum arguing about whether or not the Colts did their best to win those games. When it happened I had a couple of converstions on the NY Times site with Jets fans who were enjoying things a bit too much. I won those debates with a flury of data concerning the fact that several Colts defenders didn't even participate in the game, and others saw limited action. Pulling the skill players was just the icing on the cake.

you be sure to give him a call, check back with us tho and let me kno how that goes.

But I believe it was the great herm Edwards that said "you play to win the game". My personal feeling on this subject is the SB is the ultimate goal, and winning every game would eventually lead to that. But as for this season it was an avalanche waiting to happen, star player gets hurt, no legit back up QB, defense is still relying on the pass rush(which is useless if u can't score points), and a coaching staff that lacked the experience to make the necessary adjustments to give our team a better chance to win. But as for the jets, they should of won that game we treated it as if it were a preseason game, and everyone knos how we do in the preseason. An offensive that can't score(without Peyton) and a defense based on it's pass rush equals poor preseason performances. Sounds like there's a whole mess of problems.

  5. With how much ESPN love their draft stuff you would, wouldn't you? Surprised it took me more than a quick search to find it to be honest, had to keep rewording it.

Watching the interview again though it doesn't seem like he'd really mind, I just think he wants to be a starter as soon as possible. Don't think we can take his body language to mean too much considering how much the manner of that result probably annoyed him.

    it surprised me too
  6. I'm not sure what the point is of elimating the brilliant 14-0 start from your record calculations as if it was some sort of aberration. If you are going to do that, how about removing the two loses at the end of 2009 from your calculations since they weren't competed in. For that matter how about eliminating 2011 entirely because the entire thing was an aberration as well. The best thing that we know about Jim Caldwell is that the 2010 Colts made it to the playoffs (and darn near won a playoff game) despite devastating depth defying injuries at wide receiver, tight end, running back, safety, and cornerback, with plenty more interspersed elsewhere. Sure, you don't win those games without Peyton Manning. But you also don't win them with - what was it - eighteen guys on injured reserve and many others nursing injuries - unless your coaching staff and front office is doing something right. Last season could have been an unmitigated disaster.

so we keep a coach who doesnt want to win...Herm Edwards would disagree
  7. People are saying the bigger issue isn't whether Manning can co-exist, but whether Luck can. Some think he will want to start right away and will not be willing to sit for a few years. Not saying that's my belief, just giving the message.

Imagine seeing a healthy Peyton out there. If Peyton played all these years with neck pain, imagine what he will do when he is pain-free!

message??? if you were a luck guy you would sure point out the "flaw" with manning and then post the link so we could read about it on ESPN.

but since im infavor of keeping Peyton, i will suggest everyone youtube "andrew luck post bowl game interview"...hahaha wow never mind that idea, i cant find it anywhere, not even google. ill admit only spent about 10 mins searching, but surely i thought it would be a bigger deal then what lil publicity it did get.

  8. Good post, up until the last paragraph. To me it seems like the logic would be to gain many additional draft picks from trading Luck and then using those gained draft picks in a trade scenario to get Barkley or the next great QB prospect next year? Barkeley or the next great QB will also be a very high draft pick and will require a large amount of draft picks in return, similar to Luck. If this were the case, I would argue that choosing Luck may be better in the long run as he is projected to be a better QB.

Either way you look at it, it will be highly unlikely that the Colts will draft in this position again for a long time. If we trade the picks and shore up our defense, with Manning as a QB, we will pick near last for the next ____ years. If we draft Luck, and keep Manning, Manning will continue to play with this team who has shown an improvement in the run game, and have added O- lineman. We'll be choosing at the end of the draft. If we draft Luck and only keep Luck, ( Manning is released, traded, or retires?) then we are in a full rebuilding state. Our defense may change dramatically, as well as our offense. It would be hard to say where we will end up, but unlikely to have the #1 pick.

no i only say that because everyone seems to think you need a high pick to get a elite QB, i myself do not believe this. i was just try to please everyone. i feel if you get a raw, young, high potential QB(dont matter the round) to sit behind Peyton and learn he will be great in our system that we create using the picks we get from this trade. lets face it there are just some systems out there that makes it hard for a QB to fail, Sanchez(stats wise and decision making wise hes horrible, the team itself is great), A. smith, Brady(not taken anything from his greatness, altho i hate the guy), and some would argue J. Flacco. can you imagine if these guys(not talking about brady) got the chance to sit back and learn for a couple years, ala Rogers. How many SB would we have won if the system Peyton played in wasnt so flawed? but it starts with the 2 people, he who brings in the talent and he who coaches the talent...get rid of J. Caldwell.
  9. No this can't be right he already said he was going to take Luck(not my words go read the threads in the draft tab), these people are easily influenced by the media. It's a joke. You think Irsay was gonna let it leak to Chris Mortensen(of all people) that he was gonna draft luck. No cause if he planned to trade Peyton he just turned him in to maybe a 2rd draft pick. Irsay is doing what a smart GM(he's not the GM, yes I kno) does he's playing his cards. And from the looks of it he's doing pretty good. He's got 2 hands, one says he's taking luck, actually it says if a good QB is available he's drafting him. The other says Peyton is staying, actually says the decision will be both to share.

Dang and just when everyone had it figured out, you go and drop this crap on them.

  10. i am not getting stuck in a luck thread. ill give six million reasons as to why to draft him. you'll give six million why we shouldnt so im done

Really causes I could give u eight good reasons. And I have yet to see anyone even try an attempt to answer my one questions I have for you luck fans.

But my eight good reasons, well how about 8 draft picks in the 1st and 2nd rounds the next two years. Maybe even an extra 3rd. Sure could make that defense look real good the next couple years. But on another note I'm sure Jim Irsay would say he could give you 28 million reasons why.

But has for that question, let's say we trade Peyton and do take luck and the "experts" are wrong and he's just a average QB at best. Where do we go from there?

Keep in mind cause he's a 1st overall we have to stick with him for his rookie contract(could you imagine mark Sanchez(5thpick) on this team now). and because he's mediocre we finish in the middle of the pack, unable to get another good draft pick to get a chance at another elite prospect QB. not to mention it'll have to be at the end of lucks contract because we would still try to put pieces around him and they wouldn't take another QB high in the draft cause they wouldn't what to make him feel threatened which could delay his progress.

My thought? we could always trade up next year and get Barkley (or the next great QB prospect, they always seem to come up with) if manning shows he's not gonna be able to stick it out for another 4-5 years. If he is who we thought he is, the GOAT, then the players thos draft picks could bring in would almost guarantee sucsess for Peytons successor. It's rebuilding without losing.

  11. I'm loyal to the Indianapolis colts TEAM. Of course I have fav players that I respect more then others but I'm a fan of the colts.

yes and it's well noted that Peyton isn't one of those respected players of yours. Which is confusing considering what he's done for our TEAM. From on field play, to being the high character face of the NFL, to taking a pay cut for the TEAM. Seems like a very good candidate to admire and respect more then others.
  12. curse of the sheriff (bambino).

Stating it now Colts kick Manning out of town after all he did for us for a hyped up colleague kid... It's going to be a very un-Lucky move. Curse of the Sheriff will haunt us like bambino

finally another fan(I kno there are many others) with the some loyalty to our players.

The same people screaming and wanting to let Peyton go, are prolly the same ones complaining about players holding out for more cash. So if Peyton is let go and we get luck and he decides to hold out at a point in his career, the forum should be pretty quite cause they all understand it's a business decision on his part, and expect no hometown discount.

  13. listen manning are not u can forget multiple chips ..hes here to mentor luck ...we dont have a superbowl team we no running backs? i dont even know who are wide outs are going to be..defense cant stop the run or pass..only manning gives is hope and a playoffs but will be out after the first round ..u cant expect to draft some1 and that person plus manning to carry us in the playoff just not going to happen...

Thats what everyone is saying draft luck and he'll lead us to SB, with multiple picks we can draft multiple good players, that could form a good team, that could compete for the SB. Plus the experts say he don't need mentoring he NFL ready right now.
  14. I am on the fence whether I would prefer to draft Luck with the #1 pick or trade it for multiple picks. Which way I lean depends on the day ... but here is my main concern with the trade down scenario:

The most prevalent argument from advocates for the trade down scenario suggest that we will get multiple picks that will allow us to put the needed pieces in place for Peyton to make a couple Super Bowl runs and then draft peytons replacement in a year or 2. The problem I see with this is that we when it comes time to draft the replacement there is a good chance we will not be drafting high enough to get the elite QB ... If this is the case then we will just have to turn around and give a "boatload of picks" to the team who does have that pick. In this scenario we are not really getting extra picks this year as much as we are borrowing those picks from our future draft that we will have to pay back to acquire that elite QB in a couple years.

So if we trade down are we really gaining as much as it appears or is it just a loan that we will have to pay back (maybe with "interest") in a couple years?

If u look at the QBs in the NFL now not all of them were taken in the 1st rd. It's up to the GM to be able to evaluate and scout future players. But as I said before about the trade down we would get a future 1st and a future 2nd rd. Pick so we could trade up and get that elite QB that may or may not be in the 1st rd. And if we choose not to spend a high pick kn a QB next year we could trade one of our 1st for a 1st the following year.

The real question, that everyone is dodging, is what if we do draft luck and trade(release to save 28mil) Peyton, and luck turns out to be a bust, where do we go from there?

Would hate to see us get caught with all our eggs in one basket...it wouldn't turn out good

  15. I have a question about Andrew Luck. Yes, I could start a thread to ask; but we already have enough Luck threads IMO. So, this seemed like as good of a thread as any to highjack :hijack: to ask my question.

Why did Andrew Luck redshirt his freshman year?

    Was he injured?

Did Stanford have a QB that they thought was better?

Did Stanford/Harbaugh think it would be better for Luck to sit out and acclimate himself to the game?

Or, was there some other reason?

I have tried to find the answer and couldn't. So, I am hoping that someone here knows.

U bring up an interesting point, why would a player of such caliber have to redshift? Think I will be doing some digging on this one.
  16. Thing is, it's a risk to not take him. A lot of people are saying Manning might not ever play again, and even if he does, he's going to be 36 the next time he takes a snap. Let's say we don't pick Luck and Manning is ruled out for another year, we'll have another season like 2011.

But like I've said we would have 2 more first round picks next year to get another shot at a very good QB.
