Jonathan Taylor comments on his contract/Request trade (Merge)
NFLfan replied to GoColts8818's topic in Colts Football
I would not let differences of opinion upset me, and I would not go back and forth with anyone. I think a lot is going on here. JT being under contract and not practicing because of what is perceived to be a holdout is one factor. I don't think they believe he is physically unable to perform (PUP). Many fans do not like that. Second, his supposed or reported request of $20million per year has some very angry. Younger fans also do not seem to appreciate the RB position the way fans who have been watching the NFL for 25+ years do. They feel the RBs job can be performed by many. So, they believe RBs are dispensable and therefore not worth investing much money on. Having said that, $4 million to $5 million per year for JT is well below what I think he merits. -
First preseason game of 2023. Come and cheer on your team. What are your thoughts on the team so far? What have you seen in training camp that intrigues you? What do you expect from new players? Yeah, it is preseason, but it signals that the regular season is just one month away.

Can you expound on this? -
It is not the manager. There is no continuity. Every year there are different players. I hear we may have a youth movement. That is why Scherzer wanted to be traded. I would love that. I hate signing high-priced players although I did like Scherzer a lot.

College football 2023 thread
NFLfan replied to RockThatBlue's topic in College Football and all other sports
Hey there! Good to see you. I am not a fan of realignment. I like keeping traditional rivalries and what is going on now with all these teams changing conferences affects rivalries. I stopped watching college basketball when realignment became a yearly thing. I think I probably won't be watching much college football either. The only reason I would watch is to see the players that may play in the NFL after their college careers are over. Enjoy the season. -

If JT does not start this season, who will be the starting RB in Game 1 of the season? -

I have not been following much NFL news today and was not aware of JT's new contract demands. Is he requesting $20 million per year? If so, I think that is unrealistic. -

I think we don't have to give a reaction to every comment we disagree with. If one disagrees, one can say why but it is important not to attack each other. People get emotional and attack each other even when they don't intend to do it. There are several people whose comments leave me baffled but I rarely give confused or sad reactions, as the reactions don't really explain what I find confusing or sad. So, I prefer not to use them. I use the Thank You and the Like reactions. I use the HaHa one mostly with those I know or if something is clearly funny (like some gifs). Hopefully everyone will get along. This place is better when there are many different viewpoints, thoughts and opinions. -

What does "things are going a lot better" mean? It is not clear exactly what McAfee is referring to. Does the statement mean that JT and his agent are no longer negotiating through the media? Or that he will report to training camp? Or that the rest of the players are not distracted by the JT situation? Or something else? -

I'm not a fan of this agent. It may not be his intention, but he is not advising JT in a manner that is in his best interests. I support the players. They make their living with their bodies, and bodies get injured, weaken, etc. and eventually the players cannot work in their chosen profession. However, an agent needs to "read the room" and make decisions based on what they are "reading". I don't think this agent did that. He is using hardball tactics that I don't believe will work. The agent has other clients; so, if JT loses out, the agent still has the opportunity to make money representing other players. JT needs to do what is best for himself, not for the agent. -

The agent is the problem. He reminds me a bit of an agent in baseball who represented some of the top players. He would try to break the bank with every contract signed. It got to the point where a team refused to give his player what the agent thought he was worth. The player fired the agent because the player lost out. This agent may be good at what he does but not for Taylor. His efforts will not result in a positive outcome for Taylor. JMO -

I agree. Too much drama on the forum. Too many people trashing each other just because they have a difference of opinion. Even supposedly "new" posters are thrashing other posters. SMH -

Can there be a compromise? The Vikings have a player, D. Hunter, who was in the same situation -- he was in camp this month but not practicing. He was under contract for this last year of a long term deal. This weekend, he was given a new one-year contract that works for him and the team. He wanted a long-term deal which the GM was not ready to give. So, to compromise, Hunter was given a deal and will make more money this year. He can sign with any team, including us, next year. If he leaves we get a 3rd round comp pick. It works for player and team. The Colts are better with JT than without him and definitely without the distraction. -

I know. I think that is why he needs to hear that from the GM and his coach. He does not feel valued. What can be done to make him feel valued enough to want to play again? I do think his agent is not helping the situation. -

Just put an end to this. Have a talk with JT to make it known that regardless of his demands, he will not be traded. What would satisfy him and the team? If he refused to practice, send him home until he is ready to practice. If he is physically unable to practice (PUP), what is the point of staying in camp? -

My thought exactly. Many don't explain why they reacted with the confused or sad option. Others like to use the HaHa reaction to make fun of a post. I choose it when I think a post is funny. Anyway, back to JT, I think Ballard needs to take control of the matter and put an end to this distraction. -
