  1. ehhh...

Werner was rated high on several boards, & by several of the "draft" experts, so not sure why so many people have this opinion...

I think some people have selective memory, just because the guy didn't come in and put up massive stats, critical fans fall back to this type of rhetoric...

I fault the front office for taking a project on the first round. He had to adapt to playing in a 3-4 and he really isn't made for it. I don't mind projects from the fourth round on down but not in the early rounds. Massive stats? How about anything approaching mediocre?

  2. So, the biggest reason I'm against bringing in a big time receiver like Hakeem Nicks is I feel like it might upset T.Y.

T.Y. might feel like management doesnt believe in him enough to let him be THE guy. Even though he has proved it for 2 years now. He might want to be featured more, but management might want to go a different route. That scares me.

I dont want a riff to develop between T.Y. and the team. I want him in Indy for years to come. I dont want another receiver coming in and taking a spot thats rightfully his...

This is foolish. T.Y. is no elite receiver and he will play with whoever the Colts sign or pack his bags and go elsewhere. We need an eventual replacement for Reggie and is sure as hell isn't T.Y. He disappears way too often.

  3. well there are a few positions you can rule out, (QB, TE, RB, K/P) but yeah...

BPA is sort of one of those 'cliche' sayings, it's more like best player available "in a position of need"...

I like thinking about it like this - if the Colts truly address C & FS in FA, then it "OPENS the DRAFT UP" for the Colts to draft the best players to build depth & starters for the future, and not relying on the draft to fill a glaring deficiency...

First, no K/P is ever the best player available. I would not rule out QB, TE, or RB either if the best player was one of those. If the Colts had taken this approach, they would never have drafted Werner. You can always make room for a good player at any positing other than K/P. If you got a young QB you liked, our backup could be traded, he has some value. This is what NE tends to do. They took Mallett to be their backup and now he has great trade value if they decide not to keep him.

  4. WE DO NOT NEED WR HELP. WE HAVE TO LET PPL DEVELOP.... griff looked good, brazill showed flashes, Da'rick showed he can be a number 1 eventually, dwayne allen is coming back and reggie wayne/ Our offence will be perfectly fine ... the game will slow down for Da'Rick, he'll learn the playbook fully and it'll show on the field this year. We need a Center, cornerback (SJB or Keither McGill), DE/DT (pass rushing ability) ...

You have to be kidding. What about Rodgers showed he can ever be a number one. Brazill might be OK, Griff was a practice squad player. The Colts need a receiver and Dwayne Allen is not a WR. Wayne is very old and coming off of a serious injury.

  5. AV was 4-6 from 50+ yards.

I know but he is a year older and we think twice before we let him even attempt those. Other teams have kickers who are a threat at 60 yards. I like him fine but I think it was time to let him go and find a good young kicker with more leg. It is just my opinion and not a big deal either way in my mind.

  6. Vontae Davis: 4 years 39 million dollars 20 million guaranteed: A, one of the top corners in the league, and young, and we lock him up long term.

Arthur Jones: 5 years 33 million dollars 16 million guaranteed: A-, one of the top DE's in the league, and the best one that was left on the market, a premier run stopper, an area we struggle in. Should be a very good deal

D'Qwell Jackson: 4 years 22 million 11 million guaranteed: B+, Jerrell Freeman can play, but he lacked a sidekick to play with him, Pat Angerer couldn't do it, neither could Kelvin Sheppard, Josh McNary showed flashes but couldn't do it, and Grigson goes out and gets a leader and a tackling machine, and also a very good coverage linebacker, which is something we needed. Not to mention he took a pay cut to come play here, so you gotta love that!

Re-sign Adam and Pat (not aware of their exact contract numbers): A, no brainer move

Re-sign Ahmad Bradshaw: B+, good chance one of Ballard and Richardson miss at least one game next season, and Bradshaw is good depth to have

Re-sign Fili Moala and Sergio Brown: B, once again very good depth, and in Brown's case, one of the top special teamers in the league

Davis is a B. He was more expensive than he could have been but considering the market for CBs it is not bad. He isn't a shut down corner by any means but he still has room to get better.

Jones B  "Jones isn’t an elite player, but Pagano’s defensive system is predicated on interior linemen who can get consistent pressure from inside gaps and stop the run with equal efficiency. And Jones has proven that he can do so consistently. – Doug Farrar"

Jackson B- Jackson will make the Colts’ front seven a more solid group next season. The cost of this acquisition drives its grade down

Adam C  Too much money for an old kicker who can't get the job done at 50 yards plus any more

Pat   C   He is a kicker and there are lots of them

Bradshaw C  Good for depth and I expect him to be the number 2 running back when Richardson slides to the three spot.

Brown B Great special team player and deserved to be signed.

Moala C  Adequate or less but good for the depth chart

Total grade B to B-  Very good but we still need a center and O-Line help.

  7. This is about what the Colts need to do in order to have a successful season...  Although they're going in to the 3rd year of the program with all the new guys, I believe anything less than a SB appearance, is a failure.  I know that is asking a lot, but they're definitely talented enough to do so.

Prepare to taste failure if that is your idea of a successful season. This is still a rebuilding team that is a few years from being a Super Bowl contender.

  8. We could of went all the way last year if we have more consistent QB pressure and a better run game.

No, we could not have done that. If would have been closer without the injuries but this is still a developing team. I agree that the O-Line and the running game is a big problem and we need more QB pressure. Werner won't be the answer to that in my opinion.

  9. This team is not good enough to win a super bowl.  If you are telling yourself that you are being delusional, I admire your support of this team but you are not seeing it objectively.  What would make this season a success as far as I am concerned is another divisional win and a trip to the playoffs.  That is what this team is capable of and what I feel it can achieve.  This is not a tier 1 team and not even close to the best team in the AFC and certainly not one of the best teams in the NFL. It is a good team and a team that can and should make it to the playoffs.  I think as a fan base we should consider getting to the playoffs a success. Anything more than that is exceeding expectations and we should be happy.

That is well said and it mirrors my views. Some fans have unrealistic expectations and they write things like the Colts are one of the top two teams in the AFC. Your analysis is about right in my mind.

  10. I think all our main goal this year is for our guys to win a super bowl, but obviously only one team gets to achieve that.  In your opinion, what must we accomplish for us to say this season is a success?  Do we need to win the division again?  Advance farther in the playoffs to the AFC championship round?  Get a first round bye?  I know we don't really know quite the state of our team yet until free agency and the draft is done, but I'd like to know your thoughts and expectations on this.

Of course that is the goal but this is still a rebuilding team that has made the playoffs mostly because they play in the weakest division in the NFL. They are not likely to go 6-0 in the division again although 5-1 or 4-2 are still possible. But that means the wins have to come from outside the division. That schedule will be a little easier this year although there will be tough games with Denver and New England. Free agency has gone well but that O-Line still needs work and the coaches need to work hard with Luck to get him to make his reads with more speed and get rid of the ball sooner to help the O-Line with the pass rush. There is nothing wrong with Luck's release but he is a big slow to make his secondary reads and get the ball out of his hands. This is all to be expected from a QB just entering his third year. The Colts need to put more pressure on the opponent's QB with a pass rush that isn't solely Robert Mathis. I like what has happened in free agency so far. Center is a glaring hole that must be repaired and the O-Line just doesn't do a good job of protecting Luck (some of that is on Luck too) and creating a run game. I will be happy however the season turns out but I would hope to win the division although I expect pressure from a vastly improved and inspired Texans team. So, if they win the division and have a competitive game or two in the playoffs, that will be progress in my mind.

  11. You're clearly a Broncos fan, guy. I've read some of your other posts where you've taken jabs at Irsay while praising the Broncos organization. Nice try though

No. I am a Colts fan and a Peyton fan. When Peyton is gone from the Broncos, I will no longer be interested in them. I would assume there are many here who are the same way. I do think Elway has done a great job putting talent around Peyton. Much better than Indy has been able to do for Luck so far but there window will not be open long. Luck has another ten years barring serious injury.

  12. You're kidding, right?

    Dilfer is better than Luck?

Even better, Manning is equivalent to Dilfer?

    Manning is equivalent to Flacco?

How about Marino being worse than Dilfer?

    Stop. Just stop.

Manning has been to three Super Bowls. That puts him ahead of all of them and Yes, Dilfer's win put him ahead of Luck for the time being. Luck may never get to a Super Bowl. Marino got to one. Great QB but most folks put great store in winning Super Bowls. Many of those QBs are better than Joe Montana statistics wise but those four SBs have most people rating him at he top.

  13. I will let you in on a secret. This is a Colts fan forum. People tend to get optimistic about the Colts. I see you are newer here. For years......well some of us...tend to get optimistic. And here is another secret, I picked the Colts to go to the SB last year. But, when they lost to NE it did not bother me much the next day. I brush off losses relatively easily considering my "unrealistic expectations". I look at sports as mainly entertainment and if I don't get enjoyment out of it then why bother.... I don't take it THAT seriously, I don't bet money on the games and I will likely pick the Colts to go far again. So be it. And if it doesn't happen it doesn't happen, life will go on.

And quite honestly there is a chance the Colts WILL be in the mix in the end in the playoffs again so it's not like we are Raiders fans sitting around as if we were just shot up on something making us act completely and unrealistically loopy about our teams chances.

Nobody should have to apologize for cheerleading their team on their own teams forum IMO.

And face it, there is a chance the Colts will/could be a SB contender next season from the AFC and make a deep run. You may not agree or like it but it's just as much of an opinionated "fact" as you claiming the Ravens will be better then us or that we are vastly overrating the team in only March.

    Well said...

  14. Good QB? Joe Flacco, ok he's above average, but Andrew Luck > Flacco all day every day

What makes Baltimore better than us? They have a better coach? Ok? This team failed to make the playoffs last year and have added no one, oh, and they lost Arthur Jones to us, their top defensive lineman :)

Flacco has his Super Bowl win and that will keep him ahead of Luck until Andrew gets one if he ever gets to the game.

  17. Yeah, and they lost most of their good players from that team, yet you still claim they are better than us haha, their own fans don't even believe that

The fans vastly overrate the Colts every year. That is why they thought Peyton should have won more Super Bowls. It is call unrealistic expectations. The Ravens have a good QB, a great coach and yes, they will be better than the Colts.
