  1. If we could go back 3 years I'd jump on this faster than a dress comes off on prom night.

But this year with his size and the previous injury...

He's worth a look at least.  I can say he is a very strong character guy that would make our locker room better.  He was a dominant force at NT, just sure if he still can be.

Would likely depend on money.  If he wants what he was getting at NE, then absolutely not.

He is going to get lots of offers. We have our center now so we don't have to worry about that.  ;)

  2. He's not a scheme fit... would probably still be an upgrade but not worth the money given the Belichick's defense is designed to let him move around to disrupt the pocket. Our NT is meant to be a space eater in the middle.

If you get a player like that, change the damn scheme for a couple of years and make it work for you. So far, our NTs are pitiful.

  3. The Denver Broncos have never, EVER, defeated a Patriot team that has Gronkowski on the field.

What's the record now? 0-5 against us with Gronk? 0-6?

I always see people say this in an echo chamber as a matter of fact but is it based on parroting "media experts" or is it based on real analyisis?

How can they be a superior team if they always lose to the Patriots with Gronk on the field? ALWAYS.

That sort of consistency seems to point to the exact opposite of this narrative.

    Just wondering.

Who cares about that? Gronkowski in never on the field so it makes no difference. Even with Gronk, Denver has made great improvement. NE has only upgraded at CB. They are losing their world class NT who we should sign and they lost another member of their defensive front to the Colts. Right now, they are not as good as they were last year. That could change but Denver has made a great leap ahead of them.

  4. We should definitely look at Wilfork. Can you guys imagine him at NT next to Jones, then Redding and RJF rotating on the other side. Wilfork is still a beast, and is an elite run stopper. It would be a short contract so it wouldn't hurt us in the future. We have enough cap room to sign Wilfork, a C, and FS. Make it happen Grigs.

If you can get the big horse, you can make do with a lesser center or safety to get that. I would even make do with WR we have to get him. This would be an Elway like move to win right now and that is what I wanted. We have the aircraft carrier QB and we have a two year window before we have to pay the bill for him. Load up and go after it just like the Broncos are doing.

  5. Good response, I appreciate the civility shown, apologies it's just a tetchy time of year.

No problem. It probably seemed that way but there has been remarkable progress. I even admire the guts it took to make that trade for Richardson. It hasn't worked out but most of those moves are 50-50. I didn't like the trade of the second round pick for Davis either but now that they have him signed for a while, it was a brilliant move and I was wrong about it. The two moves were in the 50/50 range and that is what we scored so all is well. Now, Grigson, please don't trade any more draft picks!!  ;)

  6. So, should we try to get him, or no?

Vince Wilfork asked Patriots for his release, per @RapSheet. Wilfork made it clear to Patriots in recent weeks he will not restructure deal.

Damn right we should try and sign him. That guy is a horse and he has played hell with the Colts for a long time. Yes, it may only be for a year or two but he is huge and scary good. If he can pass the physical and we can find a way to pay him, he will really shore up that defense big time.

  7. Then every rookie 3-4 OLB was pretty mediocre last year, doesn't help getting injured just when he seemed to be building some momentum. Oh lets not forget he was really adjusting to two positions as he was asked to play both OLB roles.

You don't like the FO, we get it, but do you have to hammer it home on everything! Next you'll be saying we shouldn't have drafted Luck.. Oh wait.

I don't dislike the front office. I think they have done and are doing a great job. I only have two small problems with them. One is the trade for Richardson. Never give up a number one draft pick for any running back these days. The other is Werner. They drafted him as a project and they are trying to ram a square peg into a very round hole. You just don't do that with number one picks. Now if it had been fourth round or lower, get any project you see fit. I certainly think they should have drafted Luck and I have said so many times under the conditions of contest that were appropriate at that time. I have said that I think those conditions have been changed drastically by the CBA and the rookie scale and NOW there might be a better way to build a team but I am still watching to see if this hold true. I think Houston is the next great experiment in this direction and how they handle the number one pick will tell a great deal about what kind of NFL it is now.

  8. It's been their goal for the past 2 years.  I do admit it was unrealistic but that's what the front office and players expected of themselves.  I agree the Colts are in the weakest division, that being said they should EASILY win the AFC South to get an automatic bid into the playoffs.  They also have the weakest schedule this coming year, while coming off last season of having a particularly difficult schedule and maintaining their 11-5 record for a 2nd straight year.  They could possibly be the #2 seed next year and have a 1st round bye.  Through FA I believe they have patched some holes on D and should be ranked just outside the top 10 overall.  If they can fix the O-Line, which is a matter of staying healthy and picking up a C, then their offense should be top 5 overall.  Luck was pressured WAY TOO MUCH last year and the backfield was always getting blown up before the RB could hit the non existing holes.  With where they stand today I believe the Denver Broncos are the only team in the way of them making it to the SB.

PS I said it would be a failure of anything less than a SB appearance, not winning it all (previous post).  However, I fully expect them to make it to the AFC Championship game to say the least.  That isn't unrealistic with the progress they continue to make!!

I do not expect them to get there because they have done nothing to address that horrible offensive line. The players and the coaches know they are not good enough to get to the Super Bowl. They play in the South and they went 6-0 there and 5-5 on the rest of the schedule. Well, they are not going 6-0 this year so they have to be better outside the division. I see New England and Denver in that schedule. I also see a revamped Houston team that may win in double figures to and that team is being built to beat Andrew Luck and the Colts specifically. I would almost bet the Colts are a better bet to be one and done in the playoffs that getting anywhere close to that AFC Championship game. New England just got better. Denver got a whole lot better. The Colts have gotten slightly better but they still have big holes to fix.

  9. After you've gotten enough money a lot of times you want to start competing for championships.

Also in the long run you are more likely to look good on a good team and therefore get better contracts in the future.  That's the thing with like Decker.  Would he take a slightly smaller contract to play with a better QB?  Yes he would and he would be stupid not to.

The difference between playing for the next 4 years with the Jets and the next 4 years with the Colts is that with the Colts and a good QB, he's likely to see at least one more sizeable contract after those 4 years.  With the Jets he could go play there, catch very few passes from a legion of bad quarterbacks and after those 4 years be considered a washed up player who had 2 good years with Peyton Manning.

In the long run a lot of these guys will take slightly smaller contracts to play for better teams.  Now if the difference is 5 million and 8 million they will probably chase the money.  But if the difference is 7 million and 8 million then they might just play for the better team.

Or Luck could be injured tomorrow and he plays with no QB at all. Take the money. If the teams won't pay, they don't need you badly enough. Where did all of this garbage start about people giving the Colts discounts just for the privilege of playing here. It isn't so, it doesn't happen and it is never going to happen. Follow the money. When Luck's contract is done, they may have to franchise him to keep him if another team offers bigger bucks and he might even move on. Get used to it that is what life is like in the NFL. Do you think Elway might break the bank to sign Luck in a couple of years?

  10. Ask Wes Welker, last offseason he was offered 2 yr $10 million from the Patriots but declined it for a 2 yr $12 million for the Broncos. He could have stayed with a proven championship contender that he had played for for 6 years but instead left one of the best qbs ever and the best coach in the NFL for $1 million extra per year. And this is after the Patriots had just made it to the AFC championship game going further than the Broncos who had lost in the Divisional round.

Ah, he got to the Super Bowl with the Broncos. He would not have gotten there with New England. So, he got to pocket the money and get to the Super Bowl too. Who wouldn't take that deal. Also, Belichick treated him like crap.

  11. I never said Denver wasn't a Championship contender, I'm just saying, he had an opportunity to stay with a team that he had been on for 6 years, a team he had competed in 2 Super Bowls with, for only $1 million less per year.

Yes, just let the $1 million per year go. Not!! If they wanted him they should match, they didn't and he moves on where someone will pay him. It is called business. It is a business, not a sport.

  12. :sigh:

People kill me with that "They gotta support their families" nonsense

They make $1 million + that's more than almost 90% of the average American makes. If you can't support a family off of $5million, then you need to take a money management class

The average player has a three year career or less. Then what do you expect them to do? They have to make enough to support that family for the next 50 years or more in about three years. I would take every dollar I could get and so would you.

  13. If there's anything the colts need to know is whether the free agents are looking for money or a championship. Also if they fit the system, I feel like we have a good chance of picking up good players because they know indy is not where they will get the biggest contract. Here are the players that I think will fit, you can beg to differ: Championships;

Hakeem nicks-he said it himself, he'd be dangerous if Andrew luck threw to him. Clearly he wants more then 1 ring.

Bennett; gave a discount to the seahawks to stay with the team. #loyalty

    Money:

Vontae Davis: really sad it came to this point. I'm sure 99.9 percent of the colts players have been loyal to this organization. They would take a decent contract just to be in indy.

Revis: there's no need to say more. He said he's all about the money before. But who knows? Maybe he will change.

Aqib talib-he considers himself one of the leagues best. Wants big money. Apparently something is coming close with the pats. Maybe it's a false flag just like Davis. I don't see him getting big money in new England. They're not the cowboys or bears.

Lamar Woodley. Gets a big 6 year, 65 million contract and can't even battle hamstring injuries...how sad! Everyone knows that all you need to do to avoid that is to stretch before a game. He's too lazy to even do that,!

This may be the silliest post I have ever read on so many levels. Lamar will thank you for being his doctor. The name of the game is MONEY. They would like to win a championship but not at the cost of $ they will need in their retirement. Just a silly, crazy post.

  14. IMO it's way too early to set his ceiling. Most receivers take 2-3 years to really develop. Remember Wayne? He didn't start really looking like Reggie until his third year.

I'm not calling TY a HoF lock or anything for the record. Just that we should probably pump the brakes on saying what the rest of his career will look like after 2 years.

That was because of Marvin Harrison.

  15.  TY can`t BLOCK like we need and there was Hope DHB would improve. If TY has something to be worried about it is with PEP & Luck not choosing to utilizie him consistently. He is having to earn more targets and has IMO.

As for Nicks, he Could be a HUGE Upgrade over the slowly developing Brazill. How much Value$$ he adds is for our GM & Coach to figure out. A Contract set up like DJacksons would seem appropriate.

Nicks is the number one receiver in Indy immediately if he signs. Not saying he should but they will phase Reggie out if they have him or Reggie will make a living as the slot receiver and do it well.
