  1. It's getting close to draft time and a lot of people are getting anxious. This mock draft is based purely on a BPA standpoint. I did a mock on First-Pick while only taking the BPA for us and it turned out pretty well. This could be the best way to get the most out of the draft this year, by taking the top player at each spot where we draft. Some people on this board believe in BPA, others want to take needs, this mock will show how we can improve our team possibly if we take the BPA at each spot we are drafting at.

Round 1 Pick 29: Landon Collins, SS, Alabama (A+)
Round 2 Pick 29: Quinten Rollins, CB, Miami (Ohio) (A)
Round 3 Pick 29: Donovan Smith, OT, Penn State (A-)
Round 4 Pick 29: David Cobb, RB, Minnesota (A+)
Round 5 Pick 29: Taiwan Jones, ILB, Michigan State (A-)
Round 6 Pick 29: Austin Hill, WR, Arizona (A+)
Round 6 Pick 31: Xzavier Dickson, OLB, Alabama (A)
Round 7 Pick 27: Deshazor Everett, CB, Texas A&M (A)
Round 7 Pick 38 (COMP): Deon Simon, DT, Northwestern St. (A-)

Collins is a guy who could realistically fall to 29. Rollins isn't a great need pick afterwards as Collins just got picked, but he's BPA and would create a monster secondary. Donovan Smith falls a bit to our 3rd and we get a possible starting tackle for the future. David Cobb is the RB that falls to us and we snatch him up to split carries with Gore. Taiwan Jones is a nice ILB that reaches our pick. Hill can be that sneaky WR that makes a big impact on our team. Dickson is a nice pass rusher that has fallen a round. Everett is a double up at CB that could be our 4th CB. Deon Simon is a nice shot in the dark at DT.

This is a situation where a lot of guys are going later than usual, but in every draft (even the real one April 30), there will be ample opportunity to pick players that fell a certain number of picks. The longer the draft goes, the farther the drops will be for a couple players as they get passed over. So players falling a round won't be uncommon. This was my experience taking all the players that fell, hopefully Grigson takes a few of those players that fall a round or two and we massively improve the Colts for a Super Bowl run.

Will probably post my Top 64 sometime tomorrow, maybe with a RD2 to this mock, I was planning on posting a 2 rounder, with a top 64 but something has come up and I gotta run!

Reality, you are the most credible poster on the forum, but I don't get the fascination with Randy Gregory. At best he's a very raw guy who will take time to become a good player. At worst, he's a guy with character issues that is also very overrated. Can you explain why you have him at 8?

  3. well keeping 6 OLBers isnt unheard of and the pick is more for the future because as I mentioned cole and mathis arent getting any younger so newsome and trail could be the future starters

If we keep 6 OLBers it'd be cool, the problem I had is that as a 4th rounder he'd be snatched off the practice squad in no time. I do agree it's for the future, we just have a bunch of guys we have to keep for another year. We'll see how it turns out if we do indeed take an OLB somewhere in the draft.

  4. well cole and mathis arent young and werner hasnt proven he can be an effective pass rusher.

I agree, but with those 3 on the roster along with Newsome and Walden, there would be a strong possibility that Trail may not make the final 53 with all the options. I believe an OT would definitely make the roster and have a decent chance to start should he do well in training camp. I think unless you take a huge upside OLB in the first, it's going to be difficult for any OLB to crack the roster, as counter-productive as it may seem. We have a commitment to Werner, Walden is just good enough to help, Newsome is excellent, Mathis is locked down for another year, and Cole we just signed a few weeks ago. Maybe we release Walden, but it's not likely. Might as well draft one in the 7th and have the same chance. Sorry, kinda ranting here.

  5. 1.Eddie Goldman DT

    2.Henry Anderson DE

    3.Josh Shaw S

    4.Lynden Trail OLB

    5.Jake Ryan ILB

    6.Karlos Williams RB

    6.Cody Riggs CB

    7.Tyler Moore G/T

    7.Nick Perry S

Very simple and very effective. I noticed you are trying to make it as realistic as possible and fill all our needs, very well done. The only thing I would do different is switch the 4th OLB position with the 7th pick at G/T. Not the players, but the positions. Maybe take a Daryl Williams in the 4th and a OLB in the 7th. I think with Cole, pass rushers are slightly less of a need than an OT/G. This is a very well done mock though!

  6. As good as these players could be, I wouldn't want Randy Gregory, Marcus Peters, or PJ Williams in round 1. This goes against a previous post on this site about getting elite players, but we can't take any risk that something as ridiculous as an off the field issue will cause a player's career to be ruined. I also would be against Gordon or Gurley as well. The rb pool is deep and we can take one in the 2nd or 3rd if it is that much of a need. The last two players I would hate, and I' mentioning them because we've shown a bit or a lot of interest in them, are Breshad Perriman and Demarious Randall. WR is a very low need, and I doubt he'll be the BPA on the board at 29 (if he is, we should trade down). With Randall, he is a 2nd rounder. If a team takes him before 61, then just let them have him.

  7. The next step for the colts defense would be good, not elite

I know this isn't what is happening with our defense, but I'd rather have a few elite players and absolute crap around that then a bunch of "good" players. A lot of players are "good", very few are elite. If you have the chance to get an elite type player at reduced value, you get him. This is what separates good teams from great teams. It's easy to replace a bunch of poor players and put better and decent players around elite players, it's a lot harder to improve a bunch of average players because the majority of players are average players. Get an elite player whenever, wherever, and however you can.

  8. I would love if this happened. We could use an elite player on the D-Line, and the rest of the draft is pretty solid as well. I like every player except Alford, and to be fair, it's because I know very little about him and just recently heard about him. Even though our draft probably won't be this good, it's relatively realistic, and it's something to shoot for. Hopefully some of this happens for real.

  9. Michael Vick     (don't want him but he's there)

    Kyle Orton

    Jason Campbell

    Tarvaris Jackson

    Matt Flynn

    Ryan Lindley

    Jordan Palmer

    Case Keenum

    Pat Devlin

    Tyler Thigpen

Those aren't undrafted FA's. Me and Gavin mean the undrafted QB's from this year's draft class.

  10. I wouldn't call Boom better, and they both have more upside, but I'm assuming he's RB2 to start. They both have a little bit of fumble history themselves, and Langford has really small hands which might be more of a problem in the pros. I'd be good with Duke as RB2 right away, but I'd have Langford behind Boom on merit.

That's fair. I'm actually thinking we might not draft an rb this year, but I could be wrong. I think it depends on how high we draft a rb that depends on whether he is the 2 or 3. If we take Johnson and Langford, I think based on round priority, it will make them the no2 with high expectations. If we take a late round flier on an rb, boom will be the starter. Not sure about you, but I think boom is a bit overrated on these boards when in reality he is just a nice improvement over what we had last year.

  11. I prefer Duke. I think he's a second or third round prospect, and I think Langford is a fourth or fifth round prospect. I'd take either of them as RB3.

As an RB3? 1.) If we take one of these guys, they'll be splitting time with Gore most likely and be preparing to be our rb of the future. 2.) After watching Duke and Langford's highlights, do you honestly think Herron is better than either of them, especially with the fumbling issues?

  12. Clowney hasn't had a chance to prove himself and you're already throwing him under the bus. I'm sure any coach would love to have Clowney on their team.

I didn't like him before the draft, a lot of people on this forum heard me talk about his laziness, lack of heart, and the fact that he was overrated because of one big hit. He had one great year, but plenty of DE's have a great year in college. Clowney is an easy case to see that he will bust, it's unfortunate that some people won't admit to it until it's so obvious that it hits them in the face. The fact that he got only got 4 tackles isn't the reason I don't like him, he wouldn't of had a great year anyway. He's just not good, and his heart isn't in the game. We'll see if that changes when he comes back next year (if he comes back next year). Otherwise, he's a guy that got shot to the moon because of a hit.

  13. That's ridiculous. He's in no way a bad player. Probably a little overrated for somebody being rpojected as a top 5 pick, but he is not a bad player by any stretch of the imagination.

He's basically a Bjoern Werner that also is a suspension risk. Think about that. He was as overrated as Clowney before the drugs sent him down draft boards. He shouldn't be a 1st rounder. I'll make you a friendly bet he has a terrible rookie year. Don't let the "expert" opinions affect your judgment. Sometimes common sense can reveal more about a player than expert opinions. It will with Clowney and it will with Gregory.

  14. My biggest concern is if you can't leave it alone when you don't have money(which is where gregory stands right now), then how will you leave it alone when you have a pocket full of money and you have full access to the best stuff?

He's a suspension waiting to happen. Add that to the fact that he's an extremely raw player and isn't anything special to begin with, and you have a sucker pick here. A few people knew he was average and was going to be overdrafted as a player, now he will freefall. The drugs just ignited the freefall. You are right, he will keep using them and he will get suspended probably a few times.

  15. Absolutely not, the higher he goes the better. I was actually disappointed he is falling because now the Jags or Titans won't draft him and get the biggest bust in the draft. The guy is a bad player IMO, and he has character concerns. He's undraftable to me. Hopefully a team takes him before 29 and takes that temptation away from us. I'd rather take Maxx Williams the TE in the 1st than this guy. That's how much I dislike him as a player.
