But, that doesn't change the fact that Ballard didn't get so impressed with Stroud in their evaluations and didn't want to move up from #4 to #1 (which is a relatively comfortable jump rather than from #9).

You want your GM to be able to spot a great QB with all their off-season time,  material, resources the franchises have in hand.

We can say Ballard was impressed with AR much, and he stayed put but AR will have to do well and stay healthy.

Ïf AR isn't the franchise QB he seems to be developing into in limited time this year, and Ballard needs to find QB in draft again, he may probably bypass another Stroud in front of his eyes for the fear of moving up and losing draft capital for unsure reward.

That's how GMs are evaluated. You've all the information, tape at your disposal, you can bring the QB in your practice facility to evaluate up close. And, if you still don't like the QB or missed out for the fear of trading up in draft, it's a Miss for the GM's books.

Ballard can redeem himself only if AR holds down the franchise QB spot for Colts and wins some playoff game.

ballard must have wanted a running qb like lamar. ar was close to that . stroud is more of a pocket passer like brady and peyton. could it be that ballard thinks running qbs do better in todays nfl or that its too hard to get an o-line to protect a pocket passer or could it be that ballard was afraid of being wrong so he just took what fell to us? anyway who knows ar may turn out to be as good as lamar and ballard will look good. keep in mind texans have to keep an elite o-line to protect stroud. but right now stroud looks like he is going to be like brady and peyton, elite!!!!

Guess one silver lining is a competitive division “almost” forces you to be aggressive in how you handle roster building to stay above everyone else. REALLY hope Ballard is watching how quickly the Texans are improving.

nick caserio did this in just 2 seasons and they were in last place then

Yes, that is a fair statement regarding the Texans. I would  just like to see Ballard more proactive this offseason and not let both the draft board and  FA “Fall’” to him in the name of “High Value” The team needs difference makers .Ballard likes to drop in the draft and accumulate picks. Dropping back has yielded Cross and Pierce- among others, and yes both are still developing…

‘Hoping to see a more aggressive approach.

imo he is too afraid of making a miss by moving up

5 49ers made it as all-pros. Not the be all end all of course, but John Lynch took over as the 49ers GM in 2017. Same year Ballard took over as the Colts GM. Just something to think about that Ballard may not be as good of a drafter as people think.

i never thought he was a good drafter too many misses at wr and edge

Patriots are in a good situation to get a good QB. They pick 3rd overall. The QBs they have now stink.

    1. Chicago = Caleb Williams, I think they trade Fields and can probably get a round 2 pick for him.

    2. Washington = Drake Maye

    3. New England = Michael Penix Jr.

4, Arizona = Marvin Harrison Jr. for Murray.

    5. Chargers = Rome Odunze, that would give Herbert major help.

who do you think we will take or will we trade up or down

Why is every post of yours a slam towards Ballard?

because he has the team in limbo, going nowhere after 7 years, now we have real powers in our division who will dominate us for years to come while we wait for delayed gratification to work. basically i want the colts to win the division and i dont see it under ballard.

Some of you guys are over reacting to Bradley.  The injuries and suspension of Rodger’s really decimated his unit. Blackmon got hurt.  Considering what he had to work with it’s shocking we weren’t giving up 40 points every game. I think you need to wait and see what happens when they fix this secondary.

we have waited 7 years for that

haven't been on in a while so looking forward to give some thoughts after the disapointing loss.

Gus the DC it looks like will remain therefore one of two things: we need to draft for the D and it should be at #15 the best DE on the board--resign GS and KMII as well as Blackmon--and 2nd round should go LB and 3rd FS--the rest of  the draft should be best players for either side of the ball--if we resign Pittman now with this in mind we can fix the D enough while thinking that with AR back it will even things out

the other thought would be to go top 3 draft picks O and just hope we can outscore everybody-- #15 best WR and they should be some good one--2ndrd maybe a stud OG if one there 3rd maybe another OL maybe OT--we want to give AR the best chance to pass or with JT and him to run--

AR will improve the O as is with Pitt back--so the question is and i think we should do one or the other---should we fix the D or outscore everyone on O

have to get ar some weapons not sure ballard can do that he has had too many misses at wr

After what I saw in 2023, if Richardson averages 13 starts over the next 3 years, I would take it.  If you're going to play this style with this QB, you need a backup who can give you 4 games a year.  Minshew is not a starter, but he's that guy.  He can keep you competitive in those 4 games.

After seeing Richardson get knocked out of almost every game he played, I honestly think they need to keep swinging at some level at QB, but they probably won't.

i hope not rg3 all over again

Also probably helps that Sirianni has a GM who drafts and trades for guys at the premier positions.

that says everything about what is wrong with the colts gm, when he does draft at the premier positions he has too many misses, trades at these positions are rare with him if ever
