No, definitely not. Moose is only interested in crusading against Chris Ballard, and rubbing Colts fans noses in it.

I was just countering the '5th in sacks' stat with some context that I find meaningful. Like I said, I'll take the sacks all day, but I think we need to be better at getting consistent pressure. And like you said, the defense needs to get better at other stuff as well. I think we mostly agree on our opinion of the quality of the defense. I'm not hating on the pass rush, I just don't think we can count on our pass rush being able to generate sacks at this rate if we don't get better at generating pressure.

as long our d is near the top in points allowed we need improvement, imo our talent level is not good enough to play the gus soft scheme on a regular basis

Why do so many get so upset at what moose says? He doesn’t like Ballard, big deal, no one is going to change his mind. Time will tell who is right. It’s fun to have different views and debate them, but so many people here think if you say bad things about a colt you are just not a true colts fan. Heck, I had a moderator say I wasn’t a colts fan because I go by husker61.

if we all agreed and had the same views it would be a boring forum

  3. seems like we have a lot of trouble giving up first downs on third and long, and we cant seem to bring pressure on third and long. anyone have ideas on how to fix that with our present roster?

Offensively, at least, I think the Colts have shown over the course of the season that even with the injuries that they are well coached, schemed to get themselves into some opportunities to put points on the board. Currently we are 10th in the league in PPG.  Plus, the Texans D is pretty much league average in points and yards per game so do I think the offense can do some things as long as they take care of the ball (Houston is +9 in TO differential this year) which in turn, hopefully, limits the exposure on the defense.

My apprehension comes on how our D is going match with their O.  Realistically, we probably are not shutting them down, but can they produce the critical situational stops, TOs?  Thats where going outside the season long trends regarding coverage calls, blitzing becomes so critical IMO.

the gus soft zone on third and long is made for giving up first downs to the other team

I think just the opposite...Tannehill and others will be playing for their future..Vrabel is a good coach.

titans had a bad gm who let their elite players go to other teams, imo talent level stops and starts with the gm

Stroud will be the best QB we’ve faces since Lamar (or that girl who plays for Jacksonville).  Hope Kenny is back.

Also have to give them a ton of credit.  They were considered the worst team in the league by the talking heads at the start of the season.

that is what a good gm can do , nick caserio turned that team from the bottom to competing for the win division in just two seasons

I know I'll be called a Downer for this, but...

I'm gonna go glass half empty.  I don't believe we will win either of these last two games.

We are a "pretty good" team, that can normally beat the bad teams we play, and can sometimes get that miracle game against a good team, but with as many guys as we have on IR, we have to conjure those miracles just to beat the meh teams.  These last two games are against teams that aren't meh.  They're not playoff teams.  But they're not meh.  I'm gonna say we lose them both.

And that doesn't mean that this season was terrible, or that Ballard needs to be fired, or whatever.  We achieved a heck of a lot more than we thought we would at the start of the season.  And we have building blocks to achieve more after this.

But I think we've driven this car, this year, with this many missing pieces, about as far as it can drive.

(Go ahead, Colts.  Prove me wrong.  Please.)

I expect each season for our gm to put together a roster that can compete to win the afc south. so far I have been disappointed under ballards command until this season, have to win out colts

What I said is there are a lot of missed opportunities to get Pierce the ball. And that was partly in response to you (and others) saying that he doesn't get separation and can't get open.

He needs to run routes better, he should be more reliable catching the ball (that's kind of a new thing this year though), the production isn't there, we gotta add to the WR room... we're on the same page on all of that. I'm pushing back on the idea that he doesn't get the ball because he can't get open, and that's because I see him getting open and still not getting the ball. My point is pretty much what you said in bold.

is he getting open deep after o-line protection breaks down and the qb cant get set to throw deep? could it be an o-line problem?

Great point, I've been looking for a stat/ranking on them but empty so far, but he definitely draws a few.

imo ballard likes him or he would have been replaced by now

This is what I was getting ready to post.

Let's see what he can do when we are focusing on getting the ball a little more vertical.

He is clearly explosive. 22nd in league in yards per catch. 14.7.

    That's more than:

    Waddle

    Nacua

    AJ Brown

    DJ Moore

    CeeDee Lamb

    to name a few.

Just needs some more targets. He needs to step up his game a little too though.

i dont know how many he has dropped but it seems like a lot

Look, it’s well documented that it takes an NFL GM 9-10 years to build a great defensive line. Patience, sir.

strange since the average playing career of an nfl d lineman is 3.24 years, dont believe me google it

    Oakland?    Will score at will?

You're not following the Raiders if you believe that….

I have followed both and have seen how gus defense makes any offense super stars , and by the way the raiders are now las vegas if you follow them you should know that. they also put 63 points on the board against the chargers. I know you just made a mistake saying oakland welcome to the world of us old guys lol.

I do believe we could eliminate the Texans this week with a win & Texans loss.

However, it’s becoming more & more likely that we are only fighting for the 7th & final spot.

Cleveland and  Buffalo/Miami are likely to get the 5th & 6th seeds.

If we lose this week, it’s almost assuredly over for us.

imo texans will win out if stroud is over his concussion
