Young was riding that high of quarterbacking one of the best collections of talent in college ball, and the media being so in love with his personality.  It was groupthink plain and simple.

Just like it was groupthink that Levis fell.  I guarantee you that if that draft was re-held Levis would go very high, it would be Stroud then Levis or Richardson.  But that was not a new thing, it happens every once in a while in the NFL.  Teams just get in that groupthink mentality with certain guys, we saw it with Rodgers and Marino, just using two of the most worthy examples.

I do think Young has a chance to succeed because he's such a good kid and works very hard, plus he's smart.  There is a chance he can be a Brees type but lots of risk in that and he has a lot to prove and he's going to be a game manager or system type QB.

But Tepper right now is seeing the truth of his own ineptitude here.  It was clear they were taking the wrong QB at 1 overall.  You don't take a guy at the top of the draft who comes with a lot of questions based on size or arm strength or even who has red flags.  You let someone else take him too high, and if he falls through then you take him where you should which is round two a la Brees.

Either way the Colts did a good job.  Richardson is no Stroud but clearly he worked hard to learn the system and from here on out they need to condition him to use the pocket protections more.  I'm worried about him staying healthy basically, but that's a lot better than what Carolina fans are worrying about right now.

carolina may have a top pick again, another qb

This exactly. Our season has been over since week 5 and we are 6-5 and in the hunt for the playoffs. These season has been pleasing except for the elephant in the room. But everyone thought our roster was complete hot dog water and we were gonna be the laughing stock of the year. That's not been the case..

I expect us to have a roster that can win it all each season

We will get an INT or two vs Levis, as the game goes on. Titans' strength is their front 7 on D and if our OL is on point, we grind out another win.

we have been giving up a lot of rushing yds have to stop the run

It's been reported that Frank wanted to take CJ Stroud with the #1 pick, but Tepper wanted Young. I wonder if the Panthers took CJ , do you think the Texans would have taken Young or Richardson?

i am surprised young went in the first round at all, as i said at draft time he is too tiny for the nfl

I was at the Chargers game last night. Fans seem to be done with Staley, and I don't blame them. Once you start beefing with media members, I think the writing is on the wall.

And I thought he should have been replaced after their playoff meltdown last year. He's a defensive HC, they have a talented defensive roster, but they give up a ton of yards, a lot of points, don't force a lot of turnovers, and can't get off the field on third down. And it seems like they invent new ways to lose games.

sounds like the colts defense a lot of the time

When Frank was here he was an above average coach up until last year. It seemed like he lost the team last year, hence everything was bad. FWIW, he wanted Stroud, Tepper wanted Young. Tepper even said he loved Young and Frank has always like the big and tall QB's. So, just by that it is obvious who wanted who.

it is hard for a tiny qb to excel in the nfl, frank should have quit when young was chosen over stroud

Too bad the GM isn't going with him - Frank may have sealed his own fate by taking over playcalling which got him fired from here, but the GM had the #1 pick and a choice between Young, Stroud, Richardson & Levis and he picked the worst of all of them first overall, and that's not Frank's fault unless he personally lobbied for Young, which I doubt is the case.

frank liked tall qbs the gm must have picked young, the gm needs fired too

He has Brents and Jones, he needs to run man on 3rd and long and get a real FS with range and IQ in the draft. Ideally you rush 4 and put your FS over top of the best receiver just in case someone gets beat.

our defense forces third and long with pressure then gus goes soft coverage and gives up a big gain, wish he would stop the soft pressure

Gardner made some rub ridiculous plays throwing in double and triple coverage is not smart. His clock in his head is not working. Thank goodness he made enough great plays to win . The defense was resilient played bend non break . I’m proud of the team but I worry about Minshew against better teams this season

i worry about good qbs picking apart gus soft zone

    Positives:

Defensive pressure.  Samson had the big strip sack but the line was putting pressure on Baker a lot of the day.

run game.  The two headed monster showed up and played well.

oline.  Really solid and held up really well against a good defensive front against the run.

Pittman.  Maybe his best game of the season.  Again I don’t care if you call him a 1 or 2 he needs to be kept.

Minshew.  Aside from two series he made good decisions today.  Still a backup and plays like it but this is about as good as you can expect from a backup.

Shane.  Coached a good game I thought and mixed up the offense.  Had some questionable decisions that I will address later but if you are going to be aggressive you are going to fail some too but also have great play calls like that 4th and one that set up the game winning TD.

    Negatives.

Run defense:  this team needs Grover back in a bad way.  This was the worst rushing team in the league and they had over 100 yards rushing and did a lot of it right up the gut where Grover would have been.  Next week vs Henry will be a big challenge.

Get off the field defense:  Gave up way too many third and fourth and longs and what’s more disturbing is most of them were easy for the offense.  Also, as good as the pass rush was today it was no where to be seen on get off the field downs.

Secondary communication:  too many blown assignments for on defense, product of a young secondary.
Shane:  I can live with the 4th and six that failed because if you want the 4th and inches that worked later in the game you will have to live with some failures like the 4th and six.  So that’s not why he’s here.  I think his clock management at the end at the first half was bad and my biggest issue with Shane is that the Colts are undisciplined.  You see that with turnovers, poor tackling, and penalties.  Almost every game this season the Colts have committed more penalties than their opponents and tackling and turnovers have been an issue all year.  Not going to drag Shane over the coals too much for it it’s something that needs to improve.  I mean I think Shane should be in the conversation for coach of the year.  Taking over what was bad offense and having them put up 20 points in every game they have played this year but one and doing it with backup QB and having them currently in the playoffs should do that.
Gardner under pressure:  that’s when bad Gardner shows up.  At least late he was taking sacks (granted he ran into it) rather than trying to do too much on a play they lost.

Linebackers:  aside from Harrsion’s pick you hardly heard Franklin or Speed’s names all day.

    they both missed some tackles
