Cooper is worth every penny and draft choice (2nd?).

He is a fast, big body WR who would match perfectly with Hilton.  We would be very lucky to get him.

Bell?  I mean cmon of course he is a great back. Maybe the best in the NFL right now.  To say he is not worth trading for, when we have SO MUCH cap space?

I just have to lol at that.

I didn't play Madden. At all. So I don't know, is there a mode, where you can't trade for player, who is not available for a trade? Or you can trade for him anytime?

As for Bell... I just want to say he is either hurt, or makes 300+ carries and 80+ catches each season. In Madden world does it matter?

As luck would have it there are two available right now.  Bell and Cooper.

Gruden said they did not shop Cooper, so it's not like he is available. And he is 1st round pick, that's it. 2017 he got 680 yards... Grant got 580. Even Jack Doyle had more yards than Cooper.

Bell played full (almost) seasons in 2014&2017, rushing 290&321 times and catching 83&85 passes. 2015&2016 he was hurt a lot.

Not sure Cooper&Bell worth trading for.

  3. So funny to read all that whining about playmakers, difference makers, blue chip players, elite, 2nd most cap space, FA spending big and so on. Last time I checked, FA started March 2018... and Luck didn't throw till what, July?! Who the hell would sign star WR to pair with Brissett or Walker? Does it really make sense to sign "elite" players to win 2-3 more games with Brissett just to hurt Colts' chances to draft Luck's replacement?! And when Ballard saw enough Luck's progress and liked it... all "playmakers" were gone.

Nelson got blown up worse than any other lineman I’ve seen this season.

    There’s our all-pro rookie

Williams had 16 tackles and 3 sacks after 5 games. After this game he added to that list... 0 tackles, 0 sacks. Make no mistake, he is #6 pick (2015) by himself. 3 more years of playing in NFL, conditioning in NFL...

  5. If Braden will continue to play like this and develop, keep him there. He looks a little bit slow on his feet in pass protection, but he always keeps his head up and extend his arms well to minimize lack of speed. If he will be able to keep speed rushers in check and make run blocks in space, he will be pretty good RT.

Sign Ali Marpet for reasonable contract and OL will be set.

Doesn’t matter. Anderson slimmed down to play in the 4-3, I think him and hunt would’ve played well together. Henry Anderson is gonna end up being like a Justin smith type player, maybe not that good but still. Very stupid letting him go

"Slimed to play in the 4-3", "like a Justin Smith type player"... Do you realize Justin Smith was a 3-4 DE?

So then he’s drafting guys sight unseen?

You’re not making a good case for him either way here.

    2017 Draft.

    KC: 1 - QB, 2 - DE, 3 - RB, 4 - WR, 5 - LB, 6 - S.

    IND: 1 - S, 2 - CB, 3 - DE, 4 - OT, 4 - RB, 4 - DT, 5 - LB, 5 - CB.

So KC was looking for RB in Rd 3-4, for LB in Rd 5, for DB in Rd 5-6. Mack (Rd 4) is good, Walker (Rd 5) is good, Hairston (Rd 5) is good. Profile of Hairston shows his ability to play S (http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/nate-hairston?id=2558108). Mack and Hunt were rated pretty equal, same were Walker and Eligwe.

So, Ballard nailed picks, he prepared to make for Chiefs! Hooker was a steal, projected to be top-5 pick, and filled a need.

With Dee Ford, Justin Houston and Tamba Hali Ballard didn't prepare to draft 3-4 OLB/ 4-3 DE for Chiefs that high. With Marcus Peters, Steven Nelson and Phillip Gaines Ballard didn't prepare to draft CB for Chiefs that high. So he relied on previuos staff's opinion.

    Oh. Right.

He wasn’t part of an outstanding personnel department somewhere else that had done any kind of scouting of those guys before coming here.

Sorry, I forgot his first day here’s was his first day in the league.

Pretty much sure Ballard was seeking for different needs and schemes when in KC...

You are correct that being negative won't change anything, and I commend you for your positive outlook and attitude on the team and the game. However, there are a lot of people here that vent by being negative on here. It's a forum where we all share a similar love of the Colts, and they are just sharing their opinion. A lot of people here don't have family or friends who watch the Colts with them, or they are casuals where they don't know the team by heart, or realize everything that goes on, and they use this forum as a means of communication to vent their negative thoughts to people who understand their feelings.

Part of the fun is the journey of getting there, but it does get frustrating at times as well with continuous injuries and draft busts. There is a lot of frustration on this forum. I guarantee when we win and start to build a great team, morale will go up, but it is tough times as a Colts fan right now. I generally look at the draft picks and young kids as a way to substitute the current talent level and negatives as a positive, but the injuries are killing us.

Ballard is doing fine though, and like I said, it's going to take another year. He's only been here two years, so he doesn't deserve any blame at the moment, but it's a culmination of the Pagano/Grigson era, combined with Luck's injury and a continuous rebuild that has us on edge right now.

Absolutely, being a fan is a lifelong journey. And like a human life, there will be birth and death. Players, GMs and coaches will come and go, team will play good and bad and asking your team to play for SB every year is like asking your parents not to die and kids to stay little and funny. Never happen.

I agree to an extent. However, I cut people a lot of slack right now on the Colts because they have no control of the situation, and it's a helpless feeling watching your team lose because of one play each week, or just go down with injuries and you can't control it. It would be different if they were playing Madden, Poker, or something else competitively and losing because they weren't giving 100%. We have to rely on a GM, coaching staff and group of players that represent our team and hope they can win games, make the playoffs, and win the SB.

It was very easy to be a fan as a kid because you didn't think about these things as much, but when you start analyzing everything and you see decisions made that you disagree with that you can't control, it makes you a lot more negative person. It's happened to me as I got into my 20's, and I'm sure it's happened to a lot of people on this forum as they've gotten smarter to the game.

I love Colts. Really. But I would never allow Colts' play influence my mood. I can't let myself be negative: to my family, to my friends, to my co-workers. Hell, even to nicknamed forum member thousands miles away from me. Pretty simple: because negative wouldn't change anything. So why would I shove my opinion in someone's face? Does really anybody on this forum interested that much in my opinion? Or do I have to accept someone's opinion as an order? I guess, not...

I would this, I would that, I'm done with this team, pathetic... Jesus, what's wrong with all that people? Have fun! It's like kids growing: even when they % their pants, they make next step.

Yep. You know the saying though. Winning cures everything. A lot of people here are tired of losing, even though Ballard has only been here two years. It's personally been the injuries that have broken my spirit this year. When Leonard got hurt, that sent me over the edge. At least we do have some talent if we ever get healthy though. That's the best positive I can take out of this, and Ballard seems to be able to draft well (we'll figure that out as time passes).

Looks like a lot of people here remember that saying differently: whining cures everything.

  12. Patriots are great not because they draft or sign free agents well. They are great because they are fast to admit they draft or sign free agents bad. Ballard waiving Basham gives me a lot of hope.

Let's compare 2017 draft of Colts and Patriots. Patiots had 4 picks, 2 of them are already gone (Antonio Garcia and Conor McDermott). They keep Rivers (13 snaps all season = 4.9%) and Wise (126 snaps = 47,2%). That's it. Only 50% still with the team just as backups or rotation.

BTW, Patriots spent 1st and 3rd round pick for 1 season Brandin Cooks rental and 2nd round pick on Kony Ealy... just to cut him after preseason!

We keep Hooker, Wilson (NFL), Mack, Stewart, Hairston, Walker (was injured his rookie season also). 2 sure starters (Hooker, Walker), 3 quality depth (Mack, Stewart, Hairston). That's 5 of 8 (62,5%). Not only depth, but starters also.

  13. FS is not a game changer position?! Really?! Ronnie Lott, Ed Reed, Earl Thomas were/are not game changers because they are free safeties? Whoa... If Hooker is forcing opposing QBs stay away, he IS a game changer. And he's playing position requires speed less than 1 year from tearing both ACL&MCL!

Nelson is not impressive because he "doesn't dominate" DLs?! So he has to "dominate" J.J. Watt (11th pick 2011), Jadeveon Clowney (1st pick 2014), Whitney Mercilus (26th pick 2012), Fletcher Cox (12th pick 2012), Derek Barnett (14th pick 2017), Brandon Graham (13th pick 2010), Ryan Kerrigan (16th pick 2011), Daron Payne (18th pick 2018), Jonathan Allen (17th pick 2017), Malcom Brown (32th pick 2015), Danny Shelton (12th pick 2015), Geno Atlins, Carlos Dunlap... Hell, these are elite seasoned vets, even top-10 rookie guard can't "dominate" them!

Everyone can be a game changer. Even Vujnovich was a game changer, just not in a good way. Pretty average Wilkins has 6,5 yards per carry against Patriots. That's more than 2 yards more their average. And his best run was to the left.

his first draft was bad, the second looks pretty good

hooker- meh, offenses avoid throwing deep around him and hes been invisible.  wilson bad, basham bad,  mack always hurt

Second year player after ACL and MCL injuries his first (lost) year... Position in need for speed... Nice timing to say "meh".

Wins and losses are how GMs are measured.

Sure, we gotta give them time, but Ballard does not have a good W-L record. It needs to improve.

If you’re losing while Andrew Luck is your QB, you haven’t built a good team. Ballard does need to improve the overall talent of the team.

For 2019, we have a ton of cap space and many draft picks. For me, next year is his true test. If he can’t field a winning team next year, then I’d really start to question him.

Sorry, but Andrew was not Ballard's QB for 2017 season. Brissett was. Is it ok for GM to lose with Brissett?

I don't think so, not at this stage.  Luck is only in his 7th year, really 6th if you count the lost last season, and he still has plenty of mileage in the tank if his arm if fully healed.  Drew Brees is about to break some all-time passing records on a repaired shoulder done about a decade ago.  Luck can do it too.

Colts won't play for SB even in 2019. And Luck will be 31 september 2020. Pretty tight window. Why not take new QB to grow with this new team? Right now there are not a lot of teams in a desperate need of a QB, so it is possible to get a QB in 2019 draft without trading up.

  17. Can't win if you can't run the ball... Can't win if you can't pass block... Can't win if you can't stop the run... Can't win if you can't rush the passer... Can't win if you can't cover RBs&TEs... Can't win... Grigson has left too many "can't win"s to overcome it even in 2 offseasons. Since Ballard arrived, Colts seem to become better at interior OL, DL, S, LB, depth RB, TE&WR. Still not much depth and even starters (CB, WR, RB), but progress has been made.

Good thing he wasn't around when the Colts lost to Pittsburgh in 05 divisional round. Worst Colts loss, Imo.

That was the first ever football game I saw. Since then I'm the Colts fan. :)
