And this was supposed to be his break-out season.

If he's out and T.Y. or Dorsett get dinged down the road our offense is in big trouble.

with the Colts injury luck I bet this scenario happens(though I sincerely hope not).....the Colts will get their D players back and the D play vastly improves but O players will start dropping like flies.

  2. there were times Luck had Brady time in the pocket the last couple games....it really wasn't until the last few minutes did Denver pin their ears back and go after him. This O line is leaps and bounds already better than anything Luck has had and they're just going to get better as the year goes on. Still got some work to do run blocking but they're already a much better short yardage team than last year.

I agree with the first paragraph.

I'm not talking about checkdowns. I'm talking about hot routes, players open immediately or shortly after the snap, and Luck didn't pull the trigger. Maybe he didn't think he had the window, maybe he actually didn't, but it looked like he had quick options and didn't see them or passed on them.

Then there were times where he did pull the trigger, and the ball got tipped at the line, which sucks. They did a generally abysmal job of countering that. To me, you call screens -- inside and bubble -- and get some easy completions. You cut the edge rushers and throw some quick slants. And you move the QB. They moved the QB a little, but then you're not talking about quick throws, and you're generally cutting off one side of the field. They didn't do either of the first two things.

I agree, that miffed me too...especially with all the screens they were running in pre season etc.

I think we're so used to the protection being bad that we default to blaming the protection whenever things go wrong. Luck had plenty of time most of the game. Once the Broncos smelled blood, they were able to get to Luck pretty frequently, but the protection wasn't the problem.

Poor play calling was the biggest problem; they didn't do anything to punish the Broncos for sending so much pressure, did nothing to beat those blitzes, couldn't execute when guys were open, called no screens, no bubble screens, no quick slants, etc. Terrible play calling.

And Luck missed several throws, not just a few, was late on others, threw high a couple times, missed some hot routes entirely, etc. If you connect on half of Luck's mistakes, the offense would have extended some drives and scored more points. Most importantly, it would have forced the Broncos to switch up defensively, and maybe they could have run the ball.

The protection broke down eventually, but I don't think it's right to blame this game on the OL, not at all.

in fact, Miller was held in check the majority of the game until the last few minutes. That's when they accumulated the majority of their hits and sacks. Also there were times Luck had Brady time to pass the ball but Denver's secondary wasn't allowing anything to get open (legally and illegally).

Were the checkdowns open and Luck just missed them or were they not open at all?

When you've got Green and Geathers healthy at the same time it allows you to get creative with packages to deal with coverage issues our linebackers have.

especially since they're faster than the lb's and hit harder than them too.

I've noticed that the D line has been starting to get closer to sacking the qb more but was just a hair off. Having a healthy and improved secondary would give those pass rushers that extra second to get there.

Pagano: looks like they have a chance to get Vontae Davis, Patrick Robinson & T.J. Green back to practice. Henry Anderson will be ramped up

praise Jesus if this holds true........if they're able to be back and contribute this D could do a complete 180 compared to how they've been.

  7. Here's the comparison for how Cam Newton and Luck did against Denver so far this year.............yes their D is that good....but it also helps they played both the Colts and Panthers at home.

    Luck vs. Newton

    For some perspective (from Reddit).

    Against Denver
    Newton 54.5% 194 yds 1 TD 1 INT
    Luck 52.5% 197 yds 1 TD 1 INT

    Against Detriot/SF:
    Newton 60% 353 yds 4 TD 1 Int
    Luck 66% 385 yds 4 TD 0 Int

  8. Very good article.....because I remember Pagano saying they need their CBs healthy(especially Vontae) to be able to run the type of defense they want. But without VD and PR, and quite frankly every other db on the team, they have to be conservative. However, I did see some very nice blitz calls for Mike Adams that did really well.

I think the DL has held up well and with better cb play, that will by them that extra step or 2 to finally get some more sacks.

out of likes (somehow, i hadnt liked anything yet) but I agree fully.  Carolina didn't run on this denver D either.  This is a very very very elite D we played yesterday.

yeah this D hasn't missed a beat from last year and they were only a few spots of legendary. Getting anything at all against them is extremely difficult. Look at TN, they barely scored against Detroit but the Colts moved at will the last 65% of the game.
