  1. I only hear the games, I rarely see them. In an interview I heard of Rick Venturi, Rick said Pierce was wide open Sunday for a 60 yd TD, but Richardson missed him. I don’t know if he meant Anthony missed seeing him, or missed the throw? I got the impression Anthony missed seeing Pierce.

I don’t think the Colts O-line is all the way back.   Honestly not close.  Not yet, at least.

But it’s very much improved.   Very much.

This community was unimpressed after week one.   Things got better in week two, perhaps even much better.   But, IMO, it’s a long way to go before they're all the way back.   That happens with sustained excellence over an extended period of time, perhaps even a season.

Give French/Fries some seasoning. And a chance to ‘CatchUp’….

A story I just saw said Nelson MIGHT be out tomorrow.   It pointed to Hambright being activated to the game day 48 off the PS.    Perhaps to replace Q.

It’s speculation.   Hambright might also be insurance in case Q’s injured toe flares up.

I doubt Q misses, but Hambright wouldn’t be his replacement, IMO. Josh Sills replaced Q last week while Q was out. Hambright would be the backup to the backup.

Can you imagine what the Colts would have to pay a team to move up to get Marvin Jr?  An unbelievable ransom.  The entire league knows he would be our number one target for obvious reasons.  They will ask more from us than any other team.  Will they be willing to accommodate us?   Will the Colts overpay?  I would love it if he were to become a Colt but in reality it’s about as long a long shot can be.  I don’t see Ballard paying the price.  He has said it is never about one player.  I don’t see him changing now.  But one can dream that’s for sure.

With the 2nd pick (I see Az winning zero, then us next) we can actually trade down to 3 and take Harrison Jr.

Other than maybe one game against Houston , who do you see us beating, that you think we have no chance for Jr?

Honestly, I don’t think the Colts want to win 8 games.   I think they want a top-5/10 pick for next years very very attractive 2024 draft.   I think of this year as a semi-tank job.

Look how many spots fans here have spoken out for these last two months.  A veteran RG, a veteran OT,  a veteran CB,  a veteran DB,  a veteran RB.   Each time a poster like @w87r made a list of the top-5 available veteran players.   I don’t believe the Colts signed one of them.  They’ve signed some fringe level guy that might make the PS.    What does that tell you?   It tells me the team wants to play their young players and let them grow.

Remember, someone like Glowinski was a bust when Seattle cut him after 3-4 years.  He only blossomed with the Colts.  Who’s to say Fries couldn’t get better over the course of this season?   He improved last  year, perhaps he improves more this year as well.

    Hopefully food for thought…

Yesterday surprised me. I had predicted they wouldn’t win a single game, but the whole team played better than I expected.

Get AR experienced, get Hull healthy and experienced, add Marvin Harrison Jr in the draft, and next year can be exciting

Fries with a 55.4 grade is atrocious, and other posters said I overreacted when I mentioned how god awful he looked yesterday.

He got a 64 for pass blocking. If he is a 64 and the worst- and AR still was under pressure, I’m guessing the receivers weren’t open and it wasn’t the OL?

I drive a truck, so I only heard the radio broadcast, didn’t see any of it.

I think a solid RG keeps your QB from having to do it all this year and allows him to have a balanced offense

I thought we would have a bad year, but this team, with a running attack could win 8 games

The most recent Colt RB that most fit Steichen’s System was Nyheim Hines. Now, it’s Hull. But he’s hurt.

I won't say Fries pass protection was solid because it wasn't IMO. He wasnt even decent at run blocking and thats supposed to be what he is best at. Not the worst in the league, definitely bottom third of a all starters league wide though.

Fries played mostly Tackle at Penn St. That’s what the Colts drafted him to play. He was put in at Guard last year here because of his Pass Protection. He was not strong enough for NFL Run Blocking.  The Colts picked Sills off Phila’s Waiver List because of his Strong Run Blocking, but admit that Fries is the better in Pass Pro.  I’ve never seen a report saying Fries is known for his Run Blocking.

The blue check thing is weird. For a while at least, Twitter was granting free blue checks to certain well-known posters, maybe in an attempt to legitimize the idea of paying for one. Some of those users spoke out and made it known that they didn't pay, or request a blue check. I don't know if anything changed on that front.

Anyway, that platform has definitely changed in the last few years, and will apparently continue to do so. It's always been a mess, but I had at least become used to the kind of mess it was. Now it's a different kind of mess.

I’ve never been on Twitter, but Musk said in interviews that he uses the blue check to show that an actual person posted. Musk has said thatPrior to him buying Twitter,  during Election time and during Covid that almost half of the postings were Bots, and not by an actual human. Made to look like far more posters had an opinion than actually did.  He did this to get actual numbers and force the fakers off his product.

When you have players like Derrick White - Boston, Caleb Martin - Miami, Gabe Vincent - Miami, and Bruce Brown and Porter from Denver shooting like Reggie Miller in certain games, it is almost comical.

I’m a truck driver. I delivered to Michael Porter Sr when he was an Assistant at U of Missouri. His kids were there (Jr was probably about 12?) passing a football. I picked up the ball and told Jr to go deep (I USED to have an arm!).  Wound up, ball slipped and I threw it straight into the ground…..

Buffalo could extend Ed Oliver and cut Hines to make an offer.

Would Hines fit back here in Indy with Steichen’s Offense?  I could see that, if both sides were willing.  Steichen’s Offense seems more fitting than Frank’s was, at least.

I thought it was the first Monday night in the Hoosier Dome, but I could be wrong. There was one where the fans were given

You are correct about it being in Indy.   I once had that game on VHS. Chris Chandler was the QB, and Dickerson got oodles of yards on his every touch.

If Matt wanted to just ride out his career until Atlanta found their future QB..he could of.

He came here to try and win something he doesn't have...a Super Bowl. He's all in.

Unfortunately, it looks like Ballard is looking at Matt as a bandaid . He is not all in.

Actually, he does have a Super Bowl appearance and won the first half. If I recall correctly, he was up 28 or so to 3, when Brady took over and did what Brady does.   I’d call Ballard getting him this year a Colts Win.

2 bolded statements seem contradictory. The $100,000 weekly win bonus for every active roster member on the winning team each week amounts to an average of $50,000 for each player who participated in each game each week. Doesn't make sense. If there is 10 games a season that would amount to an average of $500,000 for every participating player. Granted, the winning team only participates in the bonus but if a team went undefeated in a 10 game season each player on the roster if there were on it all 10 games would get a bonus on $1M. What am I missing?

I'm not sure. But I think she misquoted (not really misquoted, but not really properly explained?) the bonus. The way hear it described during the games,  the winning team SPLITS the $100k 46 ways. (More ways if the coaches get some)

  15. I sincerely hope that I didn’t speak incorrectly above, but I was trying to remember what Nancy posted in the other Forum.

Yes..PJ did look good.  I am liking the games and there's 2 more tomorrow!  Getting used to the new rules and all..did you notice the winning team gets a bonus to share?  Pretty good incentive for regular season game!  If you didn't read about the salaries:

The XFL’s non-negotiable agreement states players will earn $1,040 in base salary every week, which translates into a $27,040 gross payment. The contract outlines that XFL players earn another $1,685 for each game played, plus a $100,000 weekly win bonus is paid to every active roster member on the winning team. XFL players get no royalties for merchandise sold by the league, and they cannot pursue any legal claims in court. All this adds up to be an estimated average salary around $55,000 for every player.

Starting QBs in the XFL can make up to 495K

I didn’t realize that. There was a recent linked article in the College and other Sports Forum that I thought said XFL players play for approx $1100 @ week, with a chance to make bonuses, but $55,000 max for the year.  And that they cannot sue over injuries. So if they get hurt, they’re screwed!

I do want to clarify one thing from my earlier posts. People were responding as if I want to keep Brissett and start him.  As if I think everything is fine.  obviously not the case.  Brissett looked like he was going to come through in the first half of the season, but hte undeniable fact is that the other half of the  season also happened.

All I'm arguing for is that if we want a QB to cover the season while we bring a draft pick up to speed, it's a better use of assets to start the guy we have until the rookie is ready, rather than to try to do everything at once, bring in a luxury starter and draft a high profile rookie too.

I get the feeling that we want to compete next year too, but if you spend too many assets trying to set up the perfect situation in any one position, it will rob us of the ability to field a balanced roster.  We have other desperate needs that we also need to focus on, besides QB.

I'd rather roll with what we have plus one rookie QB in the first couple rounds, and pick up a meaty DE, another solid all round TE and a couple WR with some flash rather than throwing away the money and assets we need to do all these things trying to get cute in one area.

In 74 the Colts tried that, keeping Marty Domres starting over Bert Jones while drafting John Dutton(DT), Roger Carr(WR) and Freddie Cook (DE).  It got Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger fired by game 3...

We have Ryan KELLY. (Provided he, and Q, will leave Disney World.

We have Chad KELLY, waiting for his shot at destiny.

What if Ballard is targeting rb Joshua KELLEY (ucla),  and (forgive me). wr KJ Hamler (psu).... better known to his mother as KAHLEE Jacoby (ironic) Hamler.

Ballard figures the Ryan one worked well, why not look for more.

Also expect anyone with Nelson or the letter Q In their name to have a distinct advantage.

With that logic, Quincy Wilson should be All Pro?!?
