Chubb over Barkley hands down no argument. Elite pass rushers are rare. Our line needs more work before we draft high on a rb. Rb is one of the easiest positions to find talent. Hell Gore is still a damn good back in my opinion, considering the state of our line he held his own in indy.
there's the rub. we don't know that Chubb is an "elite" pass rusher. He had 10 sacks this season. That's good, but not elite. And he doesn't appear to have elite physical qualities --- not overwhelming speed like a Dwight Freeney, or overwhelming size like a Julius Peppers.
don't get me wrong; like him A LOT. but I don't know that we KNOW he's "elite." Barkley, on the other hand, has truly "elite" physical qualities for his position: speed, size, and cutting ability.

Reich could have blown a fart into the mic and people would wonder if that tipped the scales in favor of Barkley.
Your farts sound like "Barkley"?

Hey, everyone drafted is a gamble.
But remember we drafted Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne in the first rounds.

Nothing to do with the Nazis, that would be The 3rd Reich.
The 2nd Reich refers to the German Empire under the rule of Otto von Bismark.
annnnnd, we can still avoid it.

Because Cleveland would have to worry that either NYJ or DEN would trade up with us and jump them for the 2nd QB on the board. If the Giants take QB1, they might want to trade up to 3 to guarantee that pick. They have the pick capital to do it as well.
Right. Only, I don't think the Colts pass on Barkley if he's there at three. Everyone wants to find a way to give Cleveland Darnold AND Barkley. I don't see that happening. But, we're months away
-
no. if there's any chance he's healthy, no no no no no.
-
I think you have to wonder why Cleveland would want to trade up from 4 to 3. There's all kinds of speculation right now that they'll bypass a QB at #1 to pick Barkley, then just pick whichever QB is left.

i can see it now; they'd agree to sign, we'd stop looking, arrange press conferences annnnnd
DAMMIT!!!

gosh. Campbell. I'm not thrilled. I would rather have a chess master.
i will tell you this, i went back and watched a few of Campbell's press conferences. Man. that dude is scary. He's like a Viking --- and i don't mean Minnesota. One thing I distinctly remember --- this is with the fins --- he was talking about how aggressive he wanted his team to be. holding up his hands like horizontal lines, he said --- in something like a war cry --- below this line is DIRTY. I don't want dirty, but I want guys skirting that line!!!!
He also got a lot of pub for holding truly physical practices; full contact, no practice squad, just ones and twos, and even Oklahoma drills.
apparently views Parcells as his mentor.

If Polian likes Reich, I'm with it.

look Frost up; listen to him speak; look at his results. he's damned impressive.

Former QB at Nebraska years ago, has coached in the pros and college, the former head coach of University of Central Florida that went 12-0 this year and shocked Auburn in the Peach Bowl. Signed up to be the new Head Coach at Nebraska.
that dude is smart AND intense,
-
kiffin is just as ethically challenged as McDufus
-
I don't know how I feel about any of this anymore. I DO know that we've just spent 5 years with a head coach who wasn't known as a strategist (head slap) but who wore his emotions on his sleeve. Everything was a bowling ball of butcher knives and chopping wood. Honestly, i think that emotional type wears out on players. You can't constantly run on adrenaline. You HAVE to have a plan. Planssssss. That was the only reason I liked the idea of McDaniels. He was an offensive "mastermind."
i squirmed with his NE connection and his previous ethics issues in Denver. Can't change your spots.
I'd LOVE an intense guy --- at first. I'd really like a smart guy with plans and strategy. Not sure any of the guys we're looking at now fit that bill.

For those who think that Chris Ballard shouldn't have said "The rivalry is back on" , I want to ask why? Why not say it? This is sports, this is drama, this is ENTERTAINMENT. I enjoy good entertainment. I want my GM to have a pair and be willing to say bring it on New England. Now if this were politics, I would want someone more diplomatic, but this is football. Give me a guy with stones EVERYTIME!
because, as the immortal Johnny U used to point out, 'talk's cheap; let's play ball."
it's just one more thing to get slapped around with. the only thing that matters is kickin their butt on the field. Period.

Dude is ripped. Can kick Josh's butt
Listen to a couple of his interviews. Dude is freaking SCARY I mean, he's more than intense. He seems like he's thinking about wading into the press row.
-
interesting. one of the better ones I've seen so far.
-
I gotta admit, I wish he hadn't said it. I felt it; he has every right to say it, but he just sounded *, and we sound slimed --- again --- by the freakin Patriots.
I know I'm gonna get slammed for this, and I hope he proves me wrong. I am * at McDaniels. But I'm also disappointed that Ballard didn't sniff this out. It's just disappointing. Hell of a way to start your gm-ship; getting jilted at the altar by your first coaching hire.
All of the questions about ethics and leadership that people questioned about McDaniels --- all now proved true.
Anyway, we'll get a better coach. I hope. I always hope.
-
You know, it's almost funny. King wrote a previous article talking about why he --- king --- thought McDaniels would be a success on a second stint ad s head coach. It was he came to king and said, "tell me everything I did wrong (in denver).
Welllll, I'm thinking he had something else to pile into that sack....

These types of moments can galvanize an organization.....or tear it down. I believe in Chris Ballard and his can do, competitive outlook.
Perhaps we'll luck out and find our diamond in the rough who may be a better long term coach than McDaniels.
Admittedly I was stoked to infuse his offense with Luck, but was just as hesitant about the cloud over him as everyone else.
Since we are literally the only team looking for a HC we could offer any coordinator in the league (virtually)?
Who are some of your darkhorse candidates now?
Reich
DiFillipo (SP?)
Frazier
Fox
Gase
Schwartz
The only silver lining here is that McDaniels is a *. Not even for just reneging, but for leaving these other coaches he wanted on HIS staff. I understand he hasn't even contacted them at this point.
You don't want a * as head coach. That's the silver lining
-
He's freakin physically imposing; big, strong, quick and fast. Doesn't look instinctive. Gets fooled. But he's a stud physically.
-
And yet, McDaniels --- who obviously spent time with this guy when he oversaw the offense --- is in favor of, or has asked for him, to be hired.

I worry that he's still learning to protect himself on the football field. sometimes he scared me the way he approached tackles, not in good football position. frankly, sometimes he still looked like a basketball player.
